Anything having to do with a group dance. So no cha-cha slide, electric slide, do the brown, macarena. Those are definitely on my do not dare play list.

"We are family" and "Celebrate". I don't care if some people love to dance to those songs... they make me want to strangle a puppy.

I DID play the cha cha slide since the kids there requested it, and my dad requested Cotton Eye Joe because he wanted to teach everyone, including his friends that flew in from Taiwan (he was already a bit tipsy by then).

I didn't mind a couple dumb songs to please the crowd. But I had to draw the line at the chicken dance. No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no

I also hate it when people play what they *think* is a romantic song because they haven't REALLY listened to the lyrics.

I second @pinkcow any group dance song is strictly prohibited.

I feel like choosing the music is going to be kind of a pain. I know I should want to put together a playlist of popular songs because that's what most people are into, but I HATE HATE HATE all the stuff that's really popular now. I hate it so much. Everyone from miley to taylor swift to maroon 5 to bruno mars and all of the other musicians that sound exactly like them can just go f--- themselves. And I'm not trying to sound hipster, I just really, really hate that whole genre with a passion and I feel like that crap is exactly what a lot of our guests are gonna expect. Ugh. Especially the new love songs coming out. I thought Bo Burnham ragging on them was hilarious:

Yes. I have to listen to that junk at work, and I hate her songs more and more every time I listen, because the more I hear the lyrics, the more stupid as hell they sound. My favorite is when she says "You were romeo I was the scarlet letter." Like seriously, do you even read books? Do you even know what the scarlet letter is? Clearly you don't because I don't think you intended to refer to yourself as someone being punished for adultery. Which means she literally just said that because it was a book title and she wanted to sound like she reads.

It's almost as bad as the "Catcher in the rye" hoodies being sold.

@climbingbrideNY - my family has a dance that we do to Pasradise - complete with by brother sliding into hem and my other brother doing the worm. Everyone looks forward to it - yes we are those people.

We Are Family is my only traditional wedding recp song I refuse to play. In case it's not obvious - also chicken, hokey pokey, polka, etc.

OH! I forgot I had to also include "Let's Get Drunk and Go Screw" on my do not playlist bc someone requested it at my cousin's wedding, we still don't know who, and the DJ actually played it!!

Can you imagine?? My grandma was still there!!

It was right after a slow song, so it took a minute or 2 before people realized what was playing and cleared the floor. The bride zipped across the floor, ripped the CD out and flung it across the dance floor.
