    YMCA. Definitely NOT. FI has requested "fat bottomed girls" but I can't decide if he is completely serious.

    I was afraid of this one, because my FI works at the YMCA, but I don't care no.

    Also, my mom wanted me to play it because of it being in Despicable Me 2. She thought it was cute. Still no.

  • Love Shack, Gangnam Style and so many others.....

    This is why my fiance and I are picking our own music. Lots of old standards, a little 80's and I can't remember what else.

  • Paradise By the Dashboard Light. I loathe that song.

    @ClimbingBrideNY

    I agree this should NOT be played at weddings. I don't hate it and occasionally my fiancé and I will sing it while in the car (especially on long trips) but we both know what the song is saying and what it's about. Lol

    I'm adding "What Does the Fox Say?" on my do not play list. THAT SONG IS NOT CUTE.

    @MrsLynn

    I have to agree. This song is not only not cute but also annoying.

  • 'I Will Always Love You,' either version. Does anyone ever listen to the lyrics of that song?? DO THEY?!

    @HisGirlFriday13

    To answer your question... no... no they don't..... (I'm assuming anyway)

    Anything having to do with a group dance. So no cha-cha slide, electric slide, do the brown, macarena. Those are definitely on my do not dare play list.

    @pinkcow13

    I am not 100% against songs like that. I know 90% of our guests like them so I will probably let them be played but I may not take part in them.

  • @hlvonb, yea I think a lot of our guests probably like those songs, but ugh!!! We went on a carnival cruise this summer and every damn night they played the slide songs and do the brown. I seriously wanted to jump overboard by the end of the trip lol. I also hate when people drag me out for those dances. I'm not 100% opposed to "Shout" though since it brings back fun childhood memories, and I've had fun at weddings with that one.

  • Bad Touch by Bloodhound Gang because I couldn't imagine that song playing in front of my grandparents...

    I hate this song with a burning, fiery passion.  Really, any songs about cheating just drive me up a wall.

    I know! And this song is even worse because the first time you hear it you're like oh this song is pretty but then when you listen closer to the lyrics and you realize how terrible it is!

    So at first I didn't know what song it was so I youtubed it with the lyrics, and when it came on I was all' "oh I know this song, it's pretty!" Then the lyrics splashed across the screen. Can I just say that I totally suck at song lyrics? Like I butcher every single song. For the songs I don't know the words to I'm definitely going to have to read the lyrics before deciding to play it at the wedding lol.

    Edit: grammar

  • I went to a wedding once where they played Pearl Jam's Last Kiss... Like, seriously? I know it kinda has a message of eternal love, but it's about death! WHY would you play that?

  • I love, love,love that song @urbaneca, but I would definitely not play it at our wedding! I think that would be way too morbid for my taste.

  • So my FI and I have been floating bad songs back and forth all night. He just turned to me and said that we should play some Loney Island at the wedding. I can't tell if he is kidding or not.
  • Anything by Justin Bieber. Just no. We've also banned any song with an organized "dance" (Macarena, Electric Slide, Achy Breaky Heart, etc.), "Wonderful Tonight", anything by Chris Brown, "Blurred Lines", and a couple other songs significant in previous relationships. Also, any song about death is a no-go. And no Skrillex.

  • I have to add that the one song we are NOT having played is Strawberry Wine..... Hell to the no on that one.
  • Every Breath You Take.

    Also, I was at a wedding where I think they just put an iPod on shuffle.  It played some really awkward songs.  The only one I remember is "Jackson" by Johnny Cash.  You realize it's talking about falling out of love and the guy leaving/cheating?
  • This is one thing I am kind of worried about. I do not know music. I do not listen to a lot of music (a little bit of country from time to time in the car). I do not have a lot of music I particularly like, but I do know what I don't like. I do not really like to dance, but I don't have a big problem with the group dances. I'm putting a lot of faith in our DJ...

    Oh, but there definitely will be a polka at our wedding--I'm a Wisconsinite marrying a Minnesotan, we're both of German descent, and it's one dance that I'm actually pretty darn good at!
  • The Hokey Pokey. Ew.

    Meh....I have to go a bit against the grain here.

    I get not choosing a spotlight dance song with lyrics that make you go hmmmm, but just for the regular music? Some of these are songs that are popular and many people like, regardless of the lyrics and what the song is about, etc.  Unless it has foul language that would be offensive to some, I really don't get freaking out over the lyrics or the message of the song.

    I'm going to agree. I'm all for "do not play" lists for songs you really loathe, but I don't need my dj to avoid songs about stuff other than love.

    I request this song at every wedding I go to. Literally.

    You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.

    This.  A song that is played isn't a reflection on the wedding or the marriage. It's a reflection of what the crowd wants to dance to during the reception.

     I don't want to hear profanity every other word, but my request of Paradise by the Dashboard Light is solely for the fact that everyone gets on the floor and sings along each time I do it.

    I wanted to put them all on the do not play list too, but a lot of people love them so if the DJ feels like playing them I don't care.  I will just go get a drink!
