Another 8-12 inches of snow Thursday.

We have at least a foot still on the ground, if not more. I have no idea where we are going to put all this snow! As it is, I can barely see over some of the snowbanks while I'm driving! I shoveled a path for my dog so she can pee and poop, but she's still sliding around all over the place. I mean, it's funny as hell, but she doesn't seem to be enjoying it.

  • I have a friend at the NWS.   Yesterday on FB he announced "Grocery Store Warning" for Norteast-MD/DE/PA/SJ area (which is where all my friends and family live).     I think that pretty much says all you need to know.

  • Lol @ Grocery Store Warning! It's the truth! We got a tiny storm after New Year's and my grocery store was cleaned out of everything. People are nuts!
  • I am so sick of this winter I could cry. I did my grocery shopping yesterday and it wasn't too bad but I'm glad I don't have to go back again before the storm.

  • I usually consider myself a winter-weather lover but this season has been too much.

LOL at the image of your dog sliding around...I'm thinking of getting mine a litter box, she refuses to go out sometimes unless I carry her to the spot I've cleared (and no she's not a lap dog but a 55lb lab/sheperd mix).  Spoiled!

I'm sick of freezing my buns off all the time.

I'm sick of the salt ruining all my shoes.

I'm sick of the nasty crap that gets all over the outside of my car, and it's never warm enough to go through a car wash to wash it off, so it just accumulates FOREVER. I also hate that I'm ruining the nice floor mats in my car with the salt from my shoes.

I'm sick of wearing winter clothes! I want to wear a sundress and sandals!

    Basically, WINTER CAN SUCK IT.
OMG THIS. My favorite pair of black boots are DISGUSTING.

I'm right there with you - I usually love winter. This has been a little too much.

My dog is very much the same. She's a 45 pound pit mix and she does not like the elements. One time I took her camping. Our campsite was mostly rocks. She didn't want to sit on the dirt and the rocks so she took over my camping chair.
  • I'm ready for summer and spring, seriously anything but snow every few days

  • My English Bulldog barks at the glass sliding door so he can go out in the weather.   He seems to be missing the lazy and doesn't like the cold genes I've been told EBs have.

  • We're equipped for weather like this in the Northeast. I've live in NY my whole life. We're used to cold temps and snow. This winter has just been worse than the winters we've had the last few years. We have lots of insulation in our house with newer windows and wood burning stoves.
  • I feel bad for all of you back east. We usually get dumped on, especially here in the valley. This year has actually been the best winter I remember seeing. We usually see snow before Halloween, and it goes all the way until March. I remember about 10 years ago it snowed into June. Worst thing ever.

I thought I heard that your houses and buildings back there aren't exactly equipped for weather like this. Can you shed any light on that? I can't imagine your houses and offices would be loaded with insulation like ours are. I bet that makes things much more difficult.
Our houses and buildings are R-rated to something like 10 degrees F. When it gets colder than that, our insulation can't stand up to the cold, so there's a chance that our pipes will freeze and burst.

A lot of places where I live have had pipes freeze and burst this winter, which has been just a damn mess. One church had the sprinkler pipes freeze and burst and they burst all over the organ, which is now ruined.

    It's basically an insulation issue.

  • I am SO sick it it!!!  I bought new winter boots this year because it was so bad, and even the waterproof insulated ones are looking nasty.  I want to wear pretty clothes again.

And you know what else?  I want to actually have my makeup still on my face when I get to my destination.  Instead of just looking windburned and chapped everywhere.

My car has been snowed/iced in to the same parking spot on my street for over a week.  I'm sort of worried the salt is ruining the paint, but it's too cold to wash it.  :-/

Every time I'm about to take my car to the car wash, we get another storm. Honestly, I haven't washed it all winter.

Raises hand.  That was a fun thing to experience on an already crappy Monday.  Our outside faucet pipe burst and flooded our entryway a few weeks ago.  I got a call from H on the way home from work.  The first thing he said to me was "Now don't freak out."  Apparently that pipe has been an issue for basically our entire neighborhood.  The same day our burst, three of our neighbors had the same issue.

And that was only a few days after we had a second floor porch installed and the crew broke one of our basement windows.  Fun times.

  • @climbingbrideNY Yep-- normally I don't wash my car much anyway, but I just don't see the point right now.  It's ridiculous here.

@maggie0829 We also had a burst pipe, not in our apartment but somewhere else in the building.  For some reason it set off the building-wide fire alarm and we had to evacuate in the freezing middle of the night and the fire department came.  We were VERY unhappy, especially the cats who got herded into their carriers and dragged out in the cold for nothing.

Oh and my mom is in the process of buying a trailer in MA out of foreclosure (long story, bad idea, but not the point of this post) and the bank turned off all the utilities because it's vacant.  So she asked them to go out and check on the place, and sure enough there was at least one broken pipe.  So now if she buys the place she has to deal with that, too.  Fun times.

  • I am so over winter. I'm not much of a cold weather person to begin with, but you just suck it up when you live in Jersey. But really, I'm tired of the crappy drivers, the snow piles blocking your vision when turning out of parking lots, the layers of ice everywhere, and the bitter winds. Pitchers & catchers report in less than a week, so at least there is light at the end of the tunnel!

  • I don't remember the last time I moved my car. I don't drive often but usually I'd need to move it because of the alternate-side parking rules. Those have been suspended for I don't even know how long. And if I don't need to drive, there's no way I'm digging out my car from the ice.

My poor dog (she's a pit bull) is miserable. She won't go to the bathroom on the sidewalk/street so I've been taking her into the backyard where the snow is a bit more manageable but she still slips around or the "ice" breaks and her paws slip through and just looks at me like "I've had enough of this shit."

I get that same look from my dog every morning.  She loves the snow when it is coming down and she can run and play.  But first thing in the morning she is none to happy going out back in the cold to do her thing.

  • @Maggie0829 - Exactly! We've had to coerce her to go outside a few times before bed and first thing in the morning. I've even considered getting her boots but I don't even know if those will help.

  • I can't really relate due to the lack of snow here...buut...we had to take one kitty to the vet some weeks ago in cold weather (40 degrees and lower). She didn't like going out in it, despite the immediate transport into the car. She normally loves to go on the back porch and lounge in the fresh air. I took her out the other day (mild mid 70s temps mind you) and she freaked out, wanting to be back inside- I guess the cold air from before made a hell of an impression.
  • I think I'm the only one here who is STOKED for this storm. BRING IT ON! :)

    *ducks for cover*

  • They upped us to 10-14" inches. Thankfully our offices are closed tomorrow so I can work from home. So, I'm excited for the snowstorm.
  • In preparation for having both of us getting snowed in tomorrow, FI just went to go pick up Chinese food for dinner. They give us so much food that we always have leftovers - perfect for lunch tomorrow. I stopped at the grocery store to 1) watch the chaos and 2) buy potato chips, soda, and heavy cream to make awesome hot chocolate. Hey, if I'm gonna be snowed it, I'm going to eat all the crap I wouldn't normally eat!

  • Ugh so annoyed. We took Friday off, but not tomorrow. I brought my laptop home but I have a lot of work to do tomorrow since I'm off the next day, so I'm just gonna go into the office since I work faster on my desktop. I will not be happy about trekking in the snow, though!

  • Gahhhh.  Tomorrow is a really important day for me at school.  Yesterday it took me 2.5 hours to get to school because the signals were broken on the subway.... NOT looking forward to my commute tomorrow.

  • I am expected to be at work if we get two feet or less. I have to be in at 7am when the storm is supposed to be strongest for us. I am going to take the bus even though I usually drive.
I really dont want to go to work tomorrow. Between the snow and how awful today was, they are lucky I have a strong work ethic or I would call out.
