@LivLeighton - I'm glad he wasn't a grumpy old man about it. And it sucks that he broke down on you. But I'm with @buddysmom80 that you probably made his day.

@allusive007 & @Peaseblossom55 - I'm SUPER excited! This one serves coffee and desserts. There is another place that serves wine though. We just happened to find an incredible deal for the coffee and canvas one. Plus I like that they're doing a painting that can work together, or stand alone. It will be nice to fill up some wall space in the house!

@Swazzle and @allusive007 Congrats on your bonuses!!!! So excited for you both!

On that note...FI also found out his bonus amount yesterday and his annual "rating". Average/good employee rating is a 3 and he got a 5!!! Also...his bonus was totally awesome. But he's being all frugal about it and saying..well we should put it aside as an emergency in case our septic field fails. We DO have an emergency savings but he wants something separate because replacing the septic field would cost us somewhere from 10 to 15k....:( I really just want to put some of his bonus towards our honeymoon so we can actually start seriously planning and booking it. I'm not eligible for a bonus this year unfortunately because I started too late in 2013. BUT I am eligible for a raise in July so here's hoping!

@Imhollister - I totally understand wanting to use some of the bonus for fun. H and I discussed my bonus and the tax return and decided together how best to use it. We're pulling out $100 for our v-day evening tonight and using the rest to pay off debt. We decided last year that paying off debt was important before starting a family...it's definitly a joint goal. Maybe you and he could discuss it and possibly save 80% but put 20% towards your honeymoon or something like that?

@LivLeighton - okay, that is more than a little awkward! poor guy and poor Liv!

I JUST finished my document and sent it off to my boss. she is having to "justify" making me an H (giving me a promotion) after 5 years of being a G (entry-level). honestly, it's so ridiculous because I've been doing H and I level work for years, but she says you don't get promoted here for good work, doing higher level work, or being here for a certain amount of time. THEN WHAT DO YOU GET PROMOTED FOR? oh right, YOU DON'T.

anyway, this document chronicles (hehe) the major projects and assignments I've worked. and it's 6+ pages long. I made sure not to leave anything out. if this doesn't get me an H (and really, I am up to I level now, so an H is still beneath my qualifications and experience, but dear GOD I'll take an H at this point) then nothing will and I will be outta here as fast as possible.

so please everyone, keep your fingers crossed for me.

ETA: she still says she won't promise anything for me anytime soon, but that this will help any chance I have at a promotion. ARGH.

I'm rooting for you @CocoBellaF! Stinks when you are a hard worker and that's not rewarded financially. "Thanks" and "you're doing a great job" only go so far. I'm pretty sure we're all in it for the paycheck at the end of the day. I'm glad you took the time to really show her what you've worked on over the last few years. Sometimes management is so used to an employee doing a stellar job the forget it really is above and beyond what would be expected at their current level. Keeping my fingers crossed!

@allusive007 I know what you mean. We have a plan for how we want to pay off our student loan debt over the next couple of years but that's our only major debt outside of our mortgage right now. So it's difficult to not want to go and just have fun with the money.

Morning all!

We have gaming tonight. My hands are ridiculously dry, so I'm trying to decide how much lotion I need to soak them in to be able to knit. Must knit ... I still owe one more baby blanket that's not off my needles.

Tomorrow BF and I are celebrating Valentine's Day. Laundry. He asked me to let him plan, so I don't know what we're doing yet.

Sunday we're going to my parents' place (and this time I mean it!) to block baby afghans. At some point this weekend I also need to get out and comb the sale racks for a nice black sweater, black slacks, and flat black shoes for playing for memorial/prayer services.

I'm working Monday -- technically I could have the day off, but if I feel behind on my projects, I probably am behind on my projects.

@Dignity100 WAHOO! Congrats girl!

I don't have much to contribute today. I'm working frantically to catch up after three snow days and taking occasional TK breaks. Our remote access system is janky and doesn't play well with my macbook, so I didn't really get anything done over those days. My favorite bakery has finally reopened so I stopped there on the way to work to pick up some v-day things for BF. It's taking all the strength I have not to eat them myself.

@phira Just an FYI I was thinking of you this morning. We just got a list of flavors and fillings from a potential baker before our tasting at the end of the month and one of her cake flavors is SPICE cake. Not carrot cake...although she offers that as well.

I think I should add something about being a spice cake bridezilla to my signature. And if you have extra cookies, you can give them to me! I'll be done wedding dieting so I am totally okay taking that hit for you.

Oh my god this day. I was dreading it so much. I knew I'd be meeting with my boss this morning to show him my shitty results, so I had a lot of trouble sleeping (as usual). I was able to get in earlier than I'd planned and go over some data with my coworker, which meant that I was really prepared for my meeting with my boss. He was in a great mood, so the whole meeting went well.

Honestly, I was just terrified that he was going to tell me how he had noticed my conspicuous absences and how I wasn't getting enough done and should reconsider grad school. So relieved; he seems really pleased with my work and my attitude about trouble-shooting all these protocols.

Then, the reagent we've been waiting on for a week FINALLY showed up in receiving, so I can get started on some big fun experiments next week. Made it to seminar, which made me feel like a Real Grad Student. And now I'm just rocking my to-do list.

Also J got me a Modcloth gift certificate for Valentine's Day, soooo now I have to decide what I want.

Finally: I think I've finally moved into the acceptance phase of grief in terms of all the snow. When I found out yesterday that we're getting another storm tomorrow, it was just like ... welp, what else is new? At least it's a long weekend and we have no plans, so by Tuesday, the sidewalks will have been shoveled. I really hope we get into the 40s next week!

I'm home alone on Vday since FI is working and he will probably work overnight tonight. He sent me chocolate covered strawberries from Edible Arrangements to my office though

I seriously cannot handle another 4-8 inches of snow tomorrow. I hate having to leave my house because who knows if I'll have a spot when I get back. People in this neighborhood put out their space savers BEFORE it even snows and leave them their way too long. It's so rude. I cannot wait to have a house someday with a driveway.

I should be doing something productive but instead I'm here and browsing the internet for wedding stuff even though I don't really need to do anything else wedding related right now.
