PIP - Lots of dresses

I tried on lots of different styles and thought the ladies on this board might like to see them. I don't have all the designer info for all the dresses, but I do have some and have shared what I could remember. I have 18 dresses to share right now and about 8 more that I'll try to post as soon as I can. I didn't take pictures in 3 dresses because they didn't fit and I couldn't come out in them/wouldn't want that getting out on the internet. I hope you enjoy looking at the different types of dresses that I've tried.

I went to three stores this past weekend and a fourth yesterday (the ~8 more will be from my fourth store). The first one was a salon with one designer, the second was a salon with 700+ gowns from many designers, and the third store sells discontinued dress samples as-is. I actually have a dress on hold at the third store, but I still just don't know about it.

I'm in love with an Eve of Milady ballgown (not available in stores anymore- old style) but I can't even decide if I LIKE ballgowns. I am having such trouble with this. I'm generally in a size 16 right now and I cannot figure out what looks good on me.

The first three are from Winnie Couture.

I've tried on over 20 dresses!

I thought some of you ladies could appreciate looking at all the different styles.

Re: PIP - Lots of dresses

  • love the back and color of #2. i also like your dad's pick, sometimes they really do know best:)
  • I vote for the Pronovias as well... it looks stunning on you!
  • I actually like the one you have on hold (is this in ivory or white). It looks like white but I could be wrong, the ivory may be a better shade however. My other favorite was the one you said was flattering but made you self conscious but you definitely don't want to be self conscious on your wedding day. But FWIW it looks great on you.
  • I love the one your dad likes also :) its very pretty on you

  • You have a great figure... you look gorgeous in almost all of these!

  • i like the third dress

and the dress under the raberta bullock rose not the rose dress but the picture underneath it with the corset back and the kinda fethery front and train its unique
  • The dresses I think look best:
    Winnie's Ambrea
This one (any idea on the designer?)

@doeydo - I saw it again on a mannequin and asked. Matthew Christopher's Sofia is what I was told.

  • By far...your dad's favorite looks the best on you. So beautiful and very slimming on you. The curve of the neckline is flattering, it accentuates your small waist and the aline hides the hips/love handles where I think the bottom 2 favs of yours accentuates them a little more with the fit n flares. By far the aline looks better. jmo though.

@Sharksgrl99 - Thank you! I actually bought a dress that is not one of these. I still want to post the other pictures I took because I think it could be helpful for other brides looking for dresses. It feels like there's not as many photos of brides in dresses that are size 16+. I wear a 14 in jeans (some brands), but the dress I ordered was an 18. I'm also short at 5'3".

I was torn when I chose my dress because I had on another Pronovias that fit very similarly to the one shown. I think in the end, I loved it because my dad would love it, but not because I loved it. So, I was true to myself and chose the one that made me the most happy. It's a drop-waist A-line, with lace layers and buttons on the back. It's so "me" and I love it so much. I love looking at dress pictures, but nothing will make me change my mind about it. It's my dress.

Hopefully things settle down at work soon and I can share more pictures of dresses. I think when it was all said and done, I had tried on over 45 dresses. Whew!

ETA: Ironically, the neckline on the dress I chose is slightly scooped, like the Pronovias above. I think it's a very flattering-yet-modest neckline. I liked that part about the dress too.

  • My Dad did like, even loved, some dresses I tried, even when I was making my "this is vile" face. Then FMIL caught that what were Daddy Approved all had square necklines.

With my fitting hell (woven fabric, I need a 24 to clear my breasts yet a 2 fits my shoulders, it's why I visit here, silly boobs), plus sewing skills - I made up a muslin of a pattern I've used and loved. FMIl got snifflely, DF liked it enough (ok, he said it was a pretty shirt, he doesn't care what I wear as long as I'm happy), DD casted a vote for me being a princess. But the square neckline frame made Dad start sobbing over how much I loved like Mom who past away in February. Well, yup, Dad was the deciding vote. Even if everyone hated it but him, I'd wear it. Because I can have Mom with me in the dress design, the neckline, slightly tinted (she had pink, I've got peach) and a delicate lace sweep train. I'm so her daughter.
  • I work in a bridal store (insert big box name here) that last dress, it's too big, I'm hoping they told you, the corset on the back should make a perfect V when it fits correctly.
    I love 3,5,14,16 and 17 on you!
