Wednesday morning chit-chat!

Re: Wednesday morning chit-chat!

  • I don't mind the four seasons when there are actually four seasons, not this never-ending winter, a brief spring, a roasting hot summer, and then winter again.

(I mean, I live in PA, where the joke is the four seasons are: Almost Winter, Winter, Still Winter, and Construction.)

But even by those standards, this is the Winter That Will Not End. It's freaking March 12 and we're under a wind chill advisory tonight!

  • Crazy about that building explosion! I just read that neighbors were complaining about smelling gas for weeks. FI and I were just near there on Friday. One of our friends runs a bar/restaurant in the area.

I'm having a craptastic day and I just want it to end. One of the owners wants all of us to have lunch together once a week. And he's telling everyone it's MY idea. What the fucking fuck? I'm perfectly happy sitting at my desk eating my lunch by myself without talking to anyone.
  • Yeahhhh, we're hitting 6 months of active wintery yuckiness here in ON.

Pouting Pumpkin. I'll take the incessant humidity of summer over this any time.

  • I woke up to 6 inches of snow. Its March 12th. Why isn't winter over yet?

I am also sick, and have been sick for days. But I had to come into work today because I have a huge meeting/ event with the CEO tomorrow and I have to prepare.

The most fristrating part is I cant take cold medicine. And I just knwo I would be feeling substantially better if I could take DayQuil.

I am done complaining now. At least I have a really fun weekend planned!

  • I grew up in Florida, where it was summer, really hot summer, awful summer, and nice weather (app. 2 weeks out of the year). This winter, winter, and more winter stuff is for the birds.

  • Morning !

It's moving day.    So excited, but it's getting a real late start so I'm annoyed.   Movers were to be here around 9, now not until noon.   Direct TV is also coming between 12-4.   Lets hope is later than early so the TV's have a chance to warm up from the cold truck.

Oh and  DH is in an all day meeting and has a function tonight.  Chef is at daycare and as to be picked up by 6pm.   We only have 1 car.  It's going to an interesting afternoon to say the least.

now off to read the rest of the thread.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Hey everybody!  I have no class on Wednesdays so I was lazy and slept until like 10am.  I decided I deserve it because my project partner at clinic dumped a bunch of work in my lap yesterday and I didn't get home until 9:30.

Today I'm gonna do some yoga, bring my car to get inspected, and get ready to pack for FL.

THEN!  I'm so excited because one of my best friends is visiting home from Spain!  I haven't seen her since the summer and I love her to bits.  So we're getting sushi with some friends.

  • Oooh, congrats, Hoboken!! What's baby's eviction date?

(I always love that phrase -- 'eviction date.' It makes me giggle.)

  • Having tooth drama - getting a crown on a front upper tooth, and both the ones they've ordered have cracked.  Hoping for third time being the charm.

FI is trying to get released from deployment early (early May instead of late).  If he can swing that, then he'll be home for Memorial Day weekend and we'll have a couple of weeks before we go get his kids from St. Louis and bring them home (school doesn't let out until early June there).  I hope he does, I REALLY want to go spend a weekend here:  http://www.treehousecottages.com/

(I always love that phrase -- 'eviction date.' It makes me giggle.)

Induction is scheduled for the night of the 26th so he'll most likely be born the 27th if he doesn't come on his own in the next 2 weeks.
Oooh, congrats!! Sending good baby-birthing vibes your way!!

  • It's 73 and raining today in Kissimmee.  Been trying to work on a spreadsheet all day and figured out my data is wrong.  That's on top of getting messages for "Insufficient memory" and figuring out I need the 64 bit version of Excel on my computer (Note to IT: it's a 64 bit computer, at least ask if the user needs the 64 bit Office suite?!).

Good note, my secretary is ordering a new nameplate for me.  By the time it comes in, I'll be back from my honeymoon.  This just got me so excited, not sure why.  Yay!

    Have a great day everyone.
  • @phira yea mine is the front muscle for sure!

@hobokenbride2012 congrats!! do you have a name?

@hisgirlfriday13 I'm from MA and back here now but when I lived out on the west coast people would always say "but the seasons in the East are beautiful" and I'd try to explain to them that we don't get season like they see on tv. My yard is under 3 feet of snow from October- March. March-May are still shitty and breezy and not warm enough to really do anything, really just an extension of winter without snow. Summer fine June- Aug. But then Sept & Oct already get cold and get classified as pre-winter. Seriously, we get one week of "cute autumn scarves and sweaters and pumpkins and leaves" then it's frigen winter! Im so bitter that I moved back and now I'm stuck here cuz FI refuses to leave lol

    Happy Hump-day all.
I'm here, at work, busy and stressed (which I will be until the 22 of March). Only a week and a half more to go. I am finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel but it still feels a long way off.

    On a culinary note:
Some colleagues of mine made plans for us to go to an India restaurant for lunch tomorrow which I am excited about, just received the email, yay! I love me good curry any day.

    On a wanderlust note:
I had some good news today! FI and I bought tickets for a long weekend in Paris in April. I am so excited about this because things have been really hectic and straining at work as of late, so I am really happy to have something in the very near future (and after my busy period here) to be excited for!
Anyone that has already been to Paris have any suggestions of any off-the-beaten path type of restaurants that they would recommend or even any charming places to stay?

How fun! I have not been to Paris yet (DH has a few times), but I'm sure you will enjoy it!

I am currently planning a trip for this Fall, but nothing before then because of our move :(

@Jells2dot0 I was looking forward to your travel recos ! :(  I'll let you know if I stumble across something worthwhile (I'm sure it is not too difficult in Paris :D).

@JCBride14 that is awesome. Catching up with old friends over good food is really one of the best pleasures in life.

@qmda76 those treehouse cottages look really cozy and romantic. Sending positive vibes that you and FI can be together there very soon.

  • @hobokenbride2012 Nice!! My brother just did that and it was driving me bonkers trying to guess it. One day I peaked my head in her nursery to see the bedding not knowing they had the name on the wall! I was so excited but I kept the secret!

Thanks for reminding to to take his name off the wall when my family visits this weekend.

  • I love when people have baby-name surprises. I also love gender surprises, but I'm not sure I can get DH on board with that.

My SIL is pregnant with baby number two, and my 2.5-year-old nephew has decided the baby is a girl and her name is 'Jingle Bell.' (They are going to find out what they're having, but she's only 13 weeks along).

    Me: Nephew, where's the baby?
    Nephew: Mommy's tummy.
Me: When will the baby be here?
    Nephew: Four minutes.
Me: Do you want a baby brother or baby sister?
Nephew: Baby is a girl and baby is named Jingle Bells. (Then he sings 'Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way -- HEY!' and goes back to whatever he was doing.)
When bestie had her second, her oldest daughter (who was 4 at the time) was really into Care Bears and insisted that the new baby's name was Tenderheart. If you call the baby by its actual name, she would yell, "NO! Her NAME is TENDERHEART!" It was funny, but the amount of rage from that small child was also a little scary haha

  • Blizzard warning here in WNY! I stayed home from work today due to the weather because my drive can be awful as it is with regular snowfall. Everything is closed - the malls, business, medical offices, schools, churches - everything! The Weather Channel even showed up to cover the storm. We're supposed to get something close to 20 inches of snow in some places. FI is getting out of work early at 3 (he works for a bank and they're closing early) and then we're hunkering down for the rest of the night. Luckily we have booze and food and lots of packing to do to keep us occupied!

I think they are now saying it was a gas leak. That is so scary. Not to mention how sad it all is.

And that really sucks about the lunch. I don't like being forced into weekly lunches.

It's only Wednesday?? Bleh. Friday can't get here fast enough.

I have a lot of things I really should do: stay at work late to finish up some projects, go grocery shopping, cook dinner, do laundry... but I'd really rather screw all that, get take out, and binge-watch some Netflix. We'll see.
    this. sounds. fantastic.

@pumpkinsandturkeys @lalalaurita That's surprising (to me, at least) that it's so common. I wish I knew how on earth I injured it. It started hurting about a year ago, and gets better and worse with, like ... the tides or something. Sometimes, running makes it hurt more, sometimes running makes it hurt less. I wish I knew! Thanks for the extra stretches! I've been doing one that's like a lunge, and my massage therapist showed me how, if I lie on my back, lift my knees up, and then turn them to the side, I can actually scoop into my hip and get some access to massage it.

    @jenna8984 Yay another Masshole!

  • @phira -- A good one for the front/pelvis area of the hip is to lay on an elevated, flat surface (like a desk or table) and hang the leg of the sore hip over the edge. Then, slowly bring the knee of the other leg up to your chest until you feel the stretch in the front/inside of the sore hip (the hanging leg).

  • FI is going to get a vasectomy reversal when he gets home, hopefully the surgery can be done this summer.  I'd like to get pregnant right around the wedding.  I'll be close to 39 when we get married, so no time to waste.  I think I'll want to wait and be surprised when the baby is born as to the gender - there's so few surprises in life and this will be my only pregnancy!

I don't get sore hips when working out, but when we do scissors or leg lifts, my hip pops like crazy - no pain, but it's kind of un-nerving to feel/hear it!

  • @jenna8984 yes we have a name picked out. We aren't telling until he's born though
My sister didn't know what she was having, nor did she announce possible names. She actually didn't announce her pregnancy at all to anyone but family and close friends (nothing on FB, etc). She said it was great to just be like: We had a baby girl and her name is Alice!

    Congrats :)

Congrats and just want to throw out there that I can vouch for the 25th as a fantastic day to be born...just sayin.

I had to laugh about taking names off the wall.  DS was a total shock and surprise when we found out we were pregnant with him.  His 4 sisters were 15, 13, 11 and 8 when he was born.  The 2 oldest are my bioDDs and are obviously a LOT older than DS.  The 8 year old asked me what we were going to name him one day and I told her Ichabod and we were going to call him Icky for short.  She was absolutely mortified and said, "Don't you think the kids at school will make fun of him?"  Priceless.
