Re: Wednesday morning chit-chat!

  • Induction is scheduled for the night of the 26th so he'll most likely be born the 27th if he doesn't come on his own in the next 2 weeks.
Congrats! FI's birthday is the 26th, so that's a lovely day for a birthday too!

Ugh, I'm glad to finally be home from work. Our parent company's email server was down, which meant we couldn't get our email via Outlook either (we had to use the remove internet based email, which doesn't show our signatures, doesn't allow you to change colors/fonts/sizes, and doesn't automatically refresh). Huge pain in the ass because we are in the final days of pre-press and are still waiting for about a dozen clients to email us their ads.

Right around lunch, our internet went down. Called Comcast but they said there were no reported service interruptions in our area. We finally got back online about 2 hours later, but that was 2 precious hours I needed to finish creating the monthly invoices. We're pretty lax with our work hours (as long as you get your work done and you're not cutting out an hour early or coming in an hour late every single day), and we're usually closed by 4:55 so we can beat a little bit of the traffic getting out of our complex. I didn't walk out until 5:02, so it took damn near forever to make the left out of our parking lot (4 lanes of traffic and a suicide lane). Coupled with the rain we were having, it was a nightmare drive home.

On the plus side, FI is no longer projectile vomiting and went to work today. He has a Boy Scout meeting until at least 7, so I can Knot and eat Doritos in peace!

I haven't made it through the thread yet, but saw everyone talking about their weather. Greetings from West Texas! Here's a typical dust storm!

Pictures are in order of how the weather went last night and the view this morning! We had 50-60 mph wind last night. It was 80 degrees yesterday - I was in a tank top, white pants and flip flops, and today I'm wearing Ugg boots, sweater, scarf and my winter coat for the 30 degree weather with 20-30 mph wind.
.. yes, those are "tumbleweeds". GIANT tumbleweeds.

Not gonna lie -- I giggled at the giant tumbleweeds because I've never seen one before, aside from cartoons. They're kinda neat!

  • @pumpkinsandturkeys I'll mail one to you :-) haha they are everywhere! You have snow plows and trucks to haul snow away - we seriously had people for 5 hours today getting rid of these tumbleweeds from fences, walls, garages, gates etc. Threw them in a huge truck bed and hauled them away.

  • @Sugargirl1019 -- that's nuts! What do they do with them after they haul them away? (Such a naive Canadian right now haha)

  • Crunch them up and throw the pieces over a landfill or field.. idk. Biodegradable! Haha. I really don't know what they do...What do they do with trees that fall down?

We have big wood chipper trucks that come around and chop them up into tiny pieces. The city/municipality then uses them for public flower beds, parks, etc.

  • Hmm.. nobody wants tumbleweed pieces in their garden... They have little bugs that live in them lol ew! I guess maybe a compost pile/garbage dump.. or throw them somewhere so that the next dust storm can hurl them upon another city in great hoards lol.

  • Hahaha I just pictured a big corral of tumbleweeds, waiting to be unleashed on the city... "Storm's coming -- open the gates and let 'em roam!"

  • I also didn't know that about tumbleweeds, but I think I'd rather have people removing those than removing the snow we've gotten dumped with all winter.

    Thanks for the photos!!

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'

Love it! They are fun to drive through in FIs big lifted truck because they just explode when you hit them :)
