thursday chatties

today is my Friday, and from what I can tell a lot of knotties are going to be starting their weekend early, too!

I am already in weekend mode.  I've been in weekend mode all week, just because I knew that I had a short week this (and next) week.  who wants to go in to work when you know you have a long weekend coming up?!?

so what's going on with everyone?  help me pass the day today with some chat!

Re: thursday chatties

  • WEEKEND MODE!!!!!!

It was next to impossible to get up and come to work today. Hopefully the day goes by quickly although I've been here for 2 hours and it's not so far.

I was supposed to clean and organize my closet, switch out my winter/summer clothes, and start packing for Texas last night... Guess what I actually did? Put on my pajamas, watched TV for 4 hours and then went to bed.

So you can probably guess what I need to do tonight!

  • @Swazzle - I've started doing that, too, but our closet really needs a good clean-out and I don't want to deal with it!  I need to clean my boots up really good and pack them away, too...  and take my heavy coats to the cleaners.  we are officially done with winter here!  our last cool day will be Sunday, and the high is 55-60 so that's not too bad.

one of the problems with my closet is that some of my favorite things are just BARELY too small, and I don't want to get rid of them or put them up, but they are taking up space and stressing me out!  I am almost there.
  • @CocoBellaF - We're pretty steadily into the 50s here now. I wore my heavy coat this morning because it was in the low 40s when I came to work. I'm going to pack away all of my heavy sweaters and my boots. I refuse to wear boots anymore this season!

It's going to be 70-80 degrees this weekend in TX and I'm so happy about it, I could cry.

You can do it! I hope my spring/summer clothes fit. I'm afraid they're going to all be way too small since I've gained so much :(

  • I'm so jealous of your long weekends! My next 3-day weekend isn't until Good Friday-Easter.

I also would like to crash your TX trip, @swazzle.

This weekend I have a wax appointment, from there FI and I are driving to the outlets so he can get clothes for our e-photo shoot, we'll grab lunch and then meet with our jeweler to see if he can replicate my wedding band for less money. Saturday night I'm meeting with my MOH for coffee.

Sunday is CLEANING ALL THE THINGS.

  • QOTD:  my mom sent me a link where there is video and an article about animals fleeing from Yellowstone and fears that a giant earthquake/explosion could happen and cover N. America in ash.  I looked around and it doesn't seem to be fake news, but it's not on any bigger news sites.  just out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on this?
  • @buddysmom80 - I would like to hide you in my suitcase so you can come! You have off on Good Friday? We should do something in the city! What about you, @hummingbird125?

  • @buddysmom80 - what do you want your band to look like, again?  and I need to clean all the things.  please come clean my house after you finish yours??
  • Good morning and happy short work week! That's awesome!

I just cleaned out my closet and dropped a bunch of things off at Goodwill. Then I proceeded to fill the empty spaces in my closet with awesome thrift shop finds. :) Success! It felt good to make room for better stuff.

What are you doing with your long weekends, Coco?

  • @cocobellaf I have 0 feels about the country being covered in ash. I never dwell on those things because if it does happen, I can't control it. I'm either a too laid-back person or a control freak. When I know things are majorly beyond my control I don't stress it. In regards to the ring, the band pretty much matches the setting of the e-ring, here's the pic below (stock picture, obviously):

@swazzle YES TO GOOD FRIDAY PLANS! My e-photo shoot is on Saturday but late in the afternoon so any hangover I have will be gone by then.

I hadn't heard about the earthquake.

And if I'm being really honest.... I didn't know that there was a volcano in Yellowstone. (I hope this doesn't turn into the whole Chernobyl thing now lol)

I googled it though, and it seems there's a LOT of websites reporting it. I watched the video of the bison taking off down the road. How creepy!

@CocoBellaF Can you share the link? That sounds interesting.

I'm also with you and @Swazzle. I need to get all my boots cleaned and my winter coats cleaned and put away. I think we're definitely out of winter. Either way, I absolutely refuse to wear either going forward...at least not until December.

Today I'm getting my iud in...ugh. I'm worried because my gyn gave me cytotec to help open my cervix before the procedure and instructed me to take it the night before. She said it might feel something like menstrual cramps but I haven't felt anything at all so I'm hoping it worked and my body is juts being nice to me. I'm really really excited about not needing to take a pill anymore though! I've been on bcp for something like 7 years now and I'm over it.

Tomorrow is FI's birthday so I'm taking him out for dinner and then we're going to try out a local brewery. My parent's want to celebrate his birthday Sunday so we'll go over to their house later in the weekend to play games and eat cake and stuff. On Saturday my mom and I are supposed to have a girl's day while my dad and FI golf if the weather is nice.

  • @lmhollister you'll be fine with your IUD! I had mine put in a few years ago, and I didn't have any medication to take the night before. The RN said I should take ibuprofen an hour before, but I forgot and she was like "it's fine". The gyn used novicaine (sp?) in my cervix so it was numb, but it hurt going in, like a big cramp. The WORST part for me was wearing a pad for two days after (I had my IUD put in during my period).

Having an IUD was the best thing in the world, I loved it. I never got a period and my PMS symptoms were very mild.

Having it taken out was painless, I didn't even feel it.

  • @Swazzle - HOW COULD YOU NOT KNOW?!!!??!!11??!!  DO YOU BURY YOUR HEAD IN THE SAND!!!????!!!111??

    http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130404223007/glee/images/b/b7/I%27m_just_kidding.gif

    maybe.  ;)

it seems that Yellowstone has the biggest supervolcano in N. America, Swaz.  I didn't know that fact either; I knew there was a big volcano, but not that it was an EPIC volcano.

I did a bit more digging and I guess there are articles about the Univ. of Wyoming taking samples and being of the opinion that it might be dying.  so who knows!

@lmhollister - I hate to post the articles because they aren't really from the best sources.  so far, they are just from smaller sites and blogs.  I guess it's pretty new, like the last few days.  you can do a google search, though.  :)

    good luck with your IUD!

@CLoGreenEyes - H and I are taking a couple days off for a non-vacation.  we can't go anywhere but we're going to just do a bunch of fun things.  let's see, tomorrow we're going to the Medieval Fair to have lunch and hang out for a few hours, then grabbing dinner and dessert at our FAVORITE Mexican place that we've already been to twice in the past month.  YUM.

I also plan to tackle the yard this weekend...  decorate the porch, clean out the flower bed (there is a cat that thinks it is a litter box, oh gross) and lay down lava rocks (hopefully the cat won't want to poop in lava rocks) and cover it when some mulch.  I need to trim up some bushes, lay out the soaker hose in the veggie garden, plant all my potted herbs and things, etc.  it'll keep me busy for sure, but I love to have a pretty yard and garden!!

Ok I got less lazy and googled it.

    http://www.livescience.com/44495-earthquake-shakes-yellowstone-no-volcano-threat.html

I knew about the volcano because I was a lazy student in college and took earth science instead of biology. Our professor spent a day telling us about caldera volcanos and when they were all "due" to erupt based on frequency of eruptions in the past. It makes sense the buffalo would run because of an earthquake but it seems unlikely that there's going to be an actual blast.

  • @cocobellaf what is with that cat and your garden????? I would be so annoyed, and I LOVE cats.

I should start cleaning up the yard this weekend too, Home Depot is having their spring black Friday sale so I have to pick up some rubber mulch to put back what was lost during the winter. I should get some more planters for the front and backyard. We have a shed we're going to sell on Craig's List so maybe we'll see how much it would cost to put a patio in the old spot where the shed was.

  • @cocobellaf, I just got up about 5 minutes ago and I'm way too sleepy to go hunt it down this minute, but I remember reading an article last week about the Yellowstone volcano. Apparently if I recall correctly, the good news was that the Yellowstone volcano may be going extinct. The bad news was that it's twice as large as predicted.

Nope, no three-day weekend. I kind of just had one because of the blizzard. We got lucky - my town only got about a foot of snow, but those Colorado lows will take you out at the end of the season when the whole snow removal budget has already been spent. The roads were pretty ugly until yesterday morning.

My next weekend is a four-day weekend for Easter. That's right, four days. Be jealous. It'll be a good time to pack and clean - we got a house!! It has issues (the basement is probably tiled in asbestos being the major one), but we can save up and fix things along the way. It's older, older places always have issues. Structurally the place is great, and I love the floor plan. It's been extended on at least once, so the floor plan is not open at all - there are nooks and crannies everywhere.

Yesterday I had to work a 12-hour day because of my stupid liquid nitrogen testing. Here's hoping I don't have to work another 12.

And this whole post is why I shouldn't roll out of bed straight onto TK.

@TwoDimes She's 14 and she drives herself to school? I always thought in SoDak that the driving laws were pretty lax...you could get your permit at 14 and drive at 15 but only within state lines. I know they have special exceptions for farm kids though. Either way, that kind of blows my mind. My grandpa took me out in his Buick on some gravel country roads a couple of times when I was her age but I can't imagine being given the freedom of my own car without supervision at her age.

@CocoBellaF What veggies are you planting this year? FI and I got a late start...we planted seeds for cilantro, basil, and sage. I already have a baby kale plant, and a struggling rosemary bush I planted last fall. We also planted seeds for a couple different pepper varieties and we just put our avocado seed in a pot. I started it in a cup earlier this year and it's got some roots on it now but no leaves yet. FI also wants to stick some of his birds eye peppers in the ground (they're currently frozen in the fridge) and see if the veggie matter rots and the seeds in the pods grow but I'm not sure if it'll work or not.

  • @CocoBellaF - I KNOW. I'm such an slacker who just does not pay attention to the world around me.

@lmhollister - Good luck today! I didn't have any meds and I wasn't on my period when I had my Skyla inserted and I survived so you will too!

@KeptInStitches I'm really jealous of your 4 day weekend. I think my next holiday is Memorial Day...ugh.... Also congratulations on getting a house!!! That's so exciting! Details? How big is the yard? Did you get all of your "must-haves" with it?

  • PS. I don't have a three day weekend.

I HAVE A FIVE DAY WEEKEND.

  • @KeptInStitches - CONGRATS!!!!!!!!

  • I'm jealous of everyone who has their weekend starting today! I won't get a long weekend until the end of the month when @lmhollister and I go to Charleston!

H is in SC so last night I was lonely and watched LMN movies until I fell asleep. Tonight that will be repeated except I will add laundry into the mix...I'm so much fun.

I do need to pack for camping though. I haven't gone camping since my Freshman year of college so I'm a little rusty on how to prepare myself for a weekend in the woods. I feel like H already has everything covered but I'm weird about packing so I'll probably over pack.

Sunday we will be coming back and celebrating @lmhollister's FI's bday. I got him a really funny card so I'm excited to see him read it lol.
  • @buddysmom80 - that band is so pretty!!  oh, and I hate that cat.  I HATE IT.  it's been pooping in my flowerbed for 2 years.  our neighbor doesn't even care.  this is the 3rd time in 2 years we've had to replace the mulch.  it is so awful.  it looks horrible and it stinks.  I've tried EVERYTHING to get it to go away, but it just WON'T.  so we're trying the lava rocks.  I am not a cat person, for sure!

@TwoDimes - how does she drive herself to school??

@KeptInStitches - congrats on the house!!!!  YAY!!!!

@lmhollister - my area has a VERY short spring planting season, so I planted all that in late Feb or so.  we have spinach, arugula, carrots, broccoli, lettuce, onions, english peas, and sugar snap peas.  the middle-end of April I'll start putting in pole beans, green beans, tomatoes, peppers, okra, eggplant, and cucumbers, etc.  I don't think we're going to get much out of the broc and carrots this year because we had a late winter, so it shortened our spring even more.  I have TONS of herbs.  some stay in pots, some go in the ground.  I always want a ton of basil so that'll go in the ground so I can get a big ol' bush.  I have:  basil, sage, rosemary, oregano, greek oregano, parsley.  I need to get a thyme plant, too.  for the porches (front and back) I ALWAYS get a huge citronella plant because they keep away mosquitoes!!

This whole 3...4..5 day weekend that everyone else seems to get but me is so unfair!!image

    @swazzle, @lmhollister, @CocoBellaF - Thanks!

It's a 3-bedroom (possibility of extension to 4 with installation of an egress window), 1.75-bathroom house. Detached one-car garage. About average sized lot for this area, which means that even though it already has a shed, garage, and three-season porch, I'll be able to put up a swing set for any future kiddos (or me). We did get our "must-haves", but as we hunted our "must-haves" list got shorter and shorter. It needs a little something in every room, but the carpet is all brand-new and the ugly paint/wallpaper can be painted over/removed in the future. We don't close for about six more weeks, so we can keep saving and planning for anything we want to do immediately around closing day.
  • I really want a day off! I have one Good Friday I can't wait.  I haven't taken any vacation days yet, saving them for the honeymoon wedding.  I'll be off for about 2 1/2 weeks!

I got a gift in the mail yesterday from our registry from one of Chris's aunts, saying she won't be able to make it to my shower.  I guess this means I'm getting a shower sometime soon..... it makes me a bit anxious now since I don't know when and my schedule is so busy.   Yay for a nice carving set, lol.  So now I have to go out and buy thank you cards after work.  I hope target has some cute ones!

I already want it to be 5, my morning has already started out stressful...

    Anniversary

  • @lmhollister & @southernpeach89 - I can come to Charleston, too, PLEEEEEEEASE???  it's on my list of places to go like NOW.

@KeptInStitches The great thing about paint and wallpaper is it's easy and cheap to get rid of or change. I had to keep reminding myself that paint/wallpaper and even flooring wasn't a huge deal as long as structurally the house was in good shape. I'm so happy for you guys! Will you have time after you close to do some repainting and stuff before you move in? I repainted our master bedroom and bathroom before we moved from our apartment in to our house and it was MUCH easier to do it without furniture getting in the way.

  • @keptinstiches congrats on the new house!!!!

@cocobellaf what kind of soil do you have? If it's porous, the smell might have reached down enough that you might have to dig up that whole garden and re-soil it to get the cat-pee smell that's attracting the cat to your garden, it's such a PITA though.
