Do you/ FI/ DH have your "own" pets/ fur babies?

I got my cat when I was 20 years old in college (I'm 29 now). She never snuggled up to any of my 10 roommates over the years or any house guests- just me. Have lived with FI for 3 years and just recently in the past few weeks she's been snuggling on his side of the bed at night instead of mine. She still loves me the best but I love that she's opened up to him finally!! She doesn't do well with other animals so we plan to get a puppy together in the future once she's passed. How about you??

  • Our cats were originally my mom's.  Then they both got really attached to each other and to me, and didn't get along with my mom's cat, so it was an easy decision that they came with me when I moved out after college.  We all moved in with Fi together and they love him.

Fi calls them "my" cats when they are troublemakers and "his" cats when they snuggle him.  I like to think they both love me more, but it might be wishful thinking.

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • We have two cats, both that I had previously to moving in together.  The older cat, Maggie, I had since I was in middle school.  She is my baby and we have a close bond.  She goes to sleep with me every night and gives me 'kisses' (she doesn't lick anyone else).  The other cat, Cali, is a sweetie.  My FI says that Maggie doesn't like him (she does) so she is my cat and that Cali is 'his' cat.

  • Right now we only have 1 kitty but, when we first started dating I had another cat named Harry. He was 6 when I adopted him my senior year in high school and then died about 9 months after FI started dating when I was 21, from cancer. He didn't like FI but, I think he wasn't treated all that well by his previous owner(s) and had fear issues. He would come around but, wouldn't really snuggle up to FI like he did with me. He always referred to Harry as "my" cat though when he talked about him.

  • I gotta be honest, we have two dogs and I think they're both H's even though we got them together.  He says the schnauzer is mine and the collie/pit mix is his but they both like him more even though I spend more time with them, feed them, walk them, etc.  I had a turtle previous to moving in with H that was all mine but he wasn't a very lively pet.  He only did the squirting water through the nostrils trick for me though.
  • I had two cats coming into the relationship and so did FI when we moved in together almost 1 years ago we merged cats.  They still really don't get along they just tolerate each other.

  • Oh jeez we are going to have a mini-farm.  FI has a dog and a cat.  I have 2 cats, a cockatiel, and a guinea pig who's old as Moses but just keeps on kicking.  So it will be a great time when we all move in together when he gets home.

  • FI and I each have one cat. I'm praying they learn to tolerate each other when we move into the house. Neutral ground should help, right?
  • We have three cats and a dog. We got all of them together. I had a cat that was my own but he passed eariler this year. I miss him so much.
  • We have 2 kitties :) I adopted them when I lived in my own, although FI came with me and paid for all their initial stuff that day. Now that we live together they are our little brats. Because yes, they are spoiled, bratty kitties. The gray on the left is Kapuchee, and Pesto is on the right.

  • I have a dog that I adopted as a puppy from the shelter I was working at at the time (4 years ago). He and FI are bros. :)

  • OH yes. I had a cat that I got my junior year of high school, and a dog I got after I moved out of my parent's house. After he moved in, I got him a cat because he didn't feel like any of the animals were his. Leto is still "his son" and Carline and Athena are still "mine", even though Athena (the dog) obeys him better than me.

  • I had my dog for 2 years before we met, but now the little brat only will listen to FI. Though I think that's because I'm a push over and give him everything he wants but FI is his buddy.

FI brought home a cat that was his from his fort marriage, but that lasted a few months enforce we sent it back to his ex. That cat was satan.

  • He had a dog when I moved in. But everyone swears she loves me best. She recognizes the sound of my car pulling into the driveway and more excitedly wait for me at the door then anyone else. I think she just likes having another female in the house.
  • I have two cats and FI is allergic. When we moved in together I was afraid I might have to find another home for them but as long as they stay out of the bedroom he's no longer bothered by them. He even cleans out their litterboxes when I'm away, no problem. And after three years they have juuust started to understand that he's actually part of our household and not just some random dude :P Thry have even started rubbing up against his leg and flopping down beside him to demand belly rubs--the ultimate sign of a cat's trust! All he had were some parakeets growing up so a lot of this is new and fun for him. It's cute to see how excited he gets when they're doing something ordinary: "Baby, check this out! Look how he's posing with the toy mouse! Aww, and now he's licking his tiny paws!"

Eventually, we'd both like a dog once we have the space, time, and resources to keep one and have him properly trained. I will probably wait until the cats pass away too since I'm not sure they'd appreciate it.

Haha, my cats are the same way. They'll listen to him when he breaks them up from fighting but they'll just ignore me even though I'm the one who raised them since they were kittens.

  • I had my dog 3 years before we started dating. I know she loves me, but I suspect she loves him more.
  • I have a cat that I've had since I was 14 who I brought along when FI and I moved in together.  Last summer we adopted an English Bulldog together.

  • FI and I have been together almost six years so all of the pets we have are "ours" except for one. We have 5 dogs and a cat. A black lab mix, Kayla, is 10 years old. FI's sister got her for him freshman year of high school. She lives with his parents because we'd feel guilty moving her when we moved in together. SHe is FI's dog but she definitely loves me now and sometimes mor ethan him! Another is a golden lab mix, Bo, and he is almost 5. We got him from a shelter freshman year of college shortly after our first dog passed away. He also lives with FI's parents because him and Kayla are inseperable and get really depressed when they aren't together. Bo is obsessed with FI.

The other dogs live with us. We have a golden retriever/lab mix, June, and she is 4 years old. She is the most cuddley dog ever and a huge sweetheart. We got her from a friend's neighbor who had abandonned her. She definitely chooses me over FI sometimes but I still think she likes him more. Another one is Loretta. She is a black lab/australian shepherd mix and is 3 years old. She is actually the puppy of Kayla (FI's dog). If any dog would be considered "mine", it is her. She lived with me in my apartment before FI and I got a house together. She really doesn't like anyone other than me and FI. It took her almost a year to warm up to our best friends who come to the house once a week. And lastly, is Bama. He's a golden retreiver/lab mix and is 2 years old. He is a 90 pound lap dog and still acts like a puppy. He is a puppy from June's litter. He is a really sweet and smart dog, but has a ton of puppy energy right now. I'm not sure if that will ever go away.

And our cat is Wynona. She's almost 1 year old. Fi got her in January from the shelter for me because I LOVE cats and hadn't had one in years. She's a beautiful tortise shell cat and very sweet. Even though FI got her for me, she is "ours" and cuddles with FI more than me I think.

We adopt a bunch of mutts and I wouldn't have it nay other way. I love ur mutts and think they make some of the best pets.

  • We have two doggies and they're MY babies.

  • I got my girlferret when I was about 21, moved in with FI when I was 25. I think she actually kind of likes him better haha. He spoils her.

Last spring I got him a ferret for his birthday. He actually likes the girl better still though, while I play with the boy a lot.

Here they are! The girl is the white one. He calls her his stepferret.

I bought my horse after meeting FI but she's definitely mine. He doesn't have much interest in horses. He's ridden her once.

We are hoping to get a dog after we get back from our honeymoon. Our plans to move might have fallen through though :(

  • We each had a dog when we met. FI puts up a good show to not associate as much with Willy (not a very manly dog - tiny, hairless, gets sunburned easily, doesn't have very many teeth, etc.) but FI is really a sucker for that little guy and Willy ADORES him. He's definitely "Lolo's dog" when he's in trouble. FI does refer to me as "mommmy" to his dog though.

I mean seriously, how sexy is this... <3

  • We lived with FI's parents for a year, during which I brought up the cat I have had since I was 10. His parents had a dog and another cat, but they all got along rather well. However, the cats had decided that while the rest of the family was neutral ground, I belonged to my cat, and he belonged to his parent's cat. This meant that my cat would pretty much ignore my FI, and his parents' cat would ignore me. (Before my cat moved in, his parents' cat slept on my bed, played with me, and cuddled with me in the evenings.)

After we moved to our current place, my cat adopted my FI. She loved to torment him; she would do things like try to steal food from his plate and meow at him from just far enough that he had to really stretch to pet her. We got a black kitty about a year and a half ago to keep my cat company. When we adopted the black kitty, she actually launched herself from my arms to my FI's. I think this was because she knew that he was the one she had to convince.

This past September, we had to put down my kitty because of kidney failure. A few days after that, we adopted our Russian Blue mix. I had expected that one of the cats would "choose" my FI, and the other one would "choose" me, but it seems that my FI and I are considered to be both of theirs. They snuggle with us equally, but they get more excited when FI snuggles with them because he doesn't do it very often. We really want a dog (or two...), but it will be at least another 5 or so years until we're settled down enough to get one.
  • I am currently the only one with a pet in our relationship. My cat has been living at my dad's house since I graduated college (I've had her since I was 17 and could never take her with me as I never lived in a place after home that allowed pets). We're finally getting settle into our new house so in a couple of weeks I'll be bringing her there to live with us. Next summer we're going to get our first pet together and we've pretty much decided that we will be getting a corgi.

  • I got FI a puppy for his birthday years ago; she came from some old neighbors of his. So she's technically "his" dog, but after I got sick for a bit, she bonded pretty tightly with me.

She had had one litter, which I delivered, and we kept one of her pups. That one's been my baby ever since she first came out into my hands, but they're both pretty firmly attached to both of us now.
  • Seeing people say that your refer to yourselves as your pets Momma or Daddy is AWESOME! FI and I do the same thing:)

I honestly think this may be a reflection on what our parenting styles may be like. If so, I will be the one who is more strict and handles disciplining and FI will be the fun one.

  • We have FOUR cats. LOL We each came into the relationship with a kitty. His cat (Gravy) really belongs to my SD. My baby (Pepper), as it turns out, loves him more than me! We'll both be sitting on the couch and she'll get in his lap over mine.

We got our other two cats together. However, DH chose the one cat (Tater) and I refer to Tater as "your son". Tater wants nothing to do with me and only pays attention to DH. The other one (Biscuit) was a kitty that my SD found and bottle fed. We weren't sure if the others would take to him or if he would take to us, but as it turns out, he hides from my DH but follows me around and sleeps next to me. So, he's my baby :)
