Vent-I need him to move out now!

Re: Vent-I need him to move out now!

  • I vote for kick him out but you need to check the laws in your state.  He has been paying rent in your home for 4 months and may have the legal right to be there.  In which case you can't just tell him to leave, you have to go through a process.

Damn it, but thank you for making me look. Apparently even without a written lease if he's been paying for more than 30 days we have to give him a written 30 day quit or leave notice.

  • Well give him the notice but then I suggest getting a lock for your fridge and hiding all of your liquor.  Just because he pays rent doesn't mean that he has the right to your food.
FI is writing up an eviction notice and is going to email it to me so I can give it to him. I can't put a lock on the fridge since FSS spends some time home alone, but I have turned the shoe closet in my bedroom  into a pantry/wine rack.

Seriously why is your FI letting you be the nasty person and take the heat? It's his friend. He needs to do more than type of the eviction notice. He needs to confront his friend.

    STUCK IN THE BOX
Fi was going to give it to him after work, but I don't want to wait that long even if it is only a few extra hours. FI does plan to talk to him about it when he gets home, but the angry part of me will get some sick satisfaction out of handing him those papers.

I would never assume anyone on here was sarcastic about wine. When I realized he had stooped low enough to drink my cooking wine I immediately rounded up all the booze in the house and put them in my shoe closet.

  • I doubt your freeloader has any idea he is entitled to 30 days notice for eviction.  I wouldn't let him know that-he'll take advantage for sure.  Just tell him he has until the end of the week or whatever you can stand. Chances are he'll just go and not fight you on it.  IF he does fight you on it, then you can bring in the 30 day rule and go through the legal stuff.

  • In a recent surprise development he is doing dishes right now! After his comment Saturday I deliberately have not touched a single dish and planned to just take care of them today while everyone was gone. He stayed home from work so I have been hiding in my office, but I can hear him washing dishes. Doesn't change anything, but it's a small victory.

  • If he's going to be there for another 30 days I would be VERY careful about what you say to him when you hand him the papers. What ever temporary satisfaction you may get from giving him a piece of your mind way quickly become overtaken by petty, passive aggressive stuff from him for the next 30 days. If I were you- I would keep your reasons vague. I.e. "It's not working out" and not give him ammo to hate you.
