I feel naked....

Because I forgot my engagement ring at home. I have never forgotten it, as I rarely take it off. Lately I got into the habit of taking it off to style my hair, which is exactly what happened this morning. I did not even realize until I got to the elevator at work. I even considered going home during lunch to get it!

And of course I have all these crazy scenarios in my head that one of the kitties swallowed it, and I'll have to dig around for it in their litter box. I  also felt strangely self conscious thinking people will wonder and ask questions. Crazy, I know! I bet no one even noticed, and I know it's normal not to wear an e ring all the time. And I also think my finger looks... indented? Is that a word?

And not only did I forget my ring, but I could not find my glasses this morning, so I've had blurry vision all day. It was also my first day back from our little staycation, so today felt like the longest day ever. I just want to go home and curl up on the couch. No wine today - still recovering from our night out last night, haha. I hope everyone else had a better Wednesday!

Re: I feel naked....

  • Yes!  I think my finger looks indented now too without my ring, and I've only been wearing it for 4 months now.  LOL

  • My finger looks indented too, and most of the time my ring will start to spin! I forgot mine a few times because I only take it off to do my hair and the dishes, and it feels weird. Only one person has ever asked me about it.

I would rather people ask just in case it fell off and I didn't notice!

Haha, so I'm not going crazy! I noticed before, but I always thought it would go back to normal after a bit. This is the longest I've gone without wearing it, and my finger still looks indented, all these hours later!

  • I forgot my ring for the first time about a month or so ago. We were still in our apartment, which was haunted. I had taken it off and left it on bathroom sink while I was getting ready for work. I got to work, realized it was missing and had all these crazy thoughts that the ghost would take it and hid it somewhere (it hid other things) or knock it off the sink and down the drain. The ghost didn't like me (my first night living there it unplugged the crockpot midway through the day and ruined our dinner - mind you, NO one was home all day - FI and I left at the same time and I watched him plug it in and turn it out - you could see when we got home that it had started to cook and the plug was laying on the counter). FI went home on his lunch that day and put it somewhere safe for me because he was slightly concerned as well.
  • I had to get mine fixed a little while ago and didn't have it for two weeks! It was so weird!

I haven't (yet) forgotten my rings (touch wood), but I do take them off to shower, style my hair, or do heavy-duty cleaning. I also think my finger looks indented from wearing them, and they do spin a lot. I periodically think about getting a guard or block for them, but then I never do.

ETA: I just took my rings off to look at the dent, and I have a very slight tan line from them. That makes me happy :)

  • ckel24 - I think our apartment is haunted, too! FI thinks I'm insane, but I'm positive of it. It has been a lot better since he moved in. At least I can sleep now. And it did not help that I had a neighbor who I guess became senile and used to scream in the middle of the night, scaring the living hell out of me. I went MONTHS with little to no sleep. I only slept when FI stayed over lol.

  • I had to send mine with FI to get cleaned one day and I felt naked. I kept catching myself "adjusting" it. I have an indention as well and a tan line.

Am I the only crazy one who NEVER takes mine off? I'll be making hamburger patties, working with dough, and gardening and leave it on.

Am I the only one who doesn't take my ring off to cook/clean/lotion up/etc.?? I have only taken it off to clean it (which I do fairly frequently, apparently because I don't take it off when I'm supposed to). I wonder if I'm messing it up now?

  • I take my ring off a lot at home, but I left my apartment yesterday with absolutely NO jewelry on at all AND I forgot my cell phone. I felt so strange all day long....

  • I knew this would be a "I forgot my ring" topic when I saw the title!

I forgot my ring once, and Fi drove to work to give it to me. :)
  • I only take my ring off when I am cooking something that would get in the crevices/holes in my ring, like making meatloaf or hamburger patties or breading fried chicken.  Otherwise, it stays on, including playing sand volleyball (unless it is super cold and my fingers shrink and I am scared it will fall off, then FI wears it while I play), showering, putting on lotion, etc. I definitely feel naked without it.
  • I take my ring off to do my hair because otherwise it will get stuck in there and I will never get it back, lol.  Although that might change soon, I plan on cutting it off :D I've been growing it out for years but I am now bored of it (And so fucking sick of the tangles, it's always in knots!  Even when I style it, ten minutes later it has friggin knots in it and looks crappy.)  so soon it will be short.

I also take it off to clean and cook anything that's messy or apply lotion, just because I get really annoyed when it gets anything on it (So I will immediately have to clean it or else it will bug me) and I'd rather just take it off and put it back on rather than clean it 10 times a day.  I also have an indent on my finger from it.

    That's really sweet!
I just realized that I have had my iphone a lot longer than I've had my ring, and I still have not forgotten it at home SMH.

@hisgirlfriday13, I'm sad to report, no tan line on my ring finger. Sigh. I need a beach vacation.

  • I feel the same when I'm not wearing mine! And its only been on my finger for 3 months!! It is just part of me now :)
  • I freaked out on Sunday because I thought I lost it. I had taken it off to shower and at the time that is the last time I remember having it. I had actually put it back on, accidentally put in my hair oil with my ring on and then dropped it in the cleaner. I thought I had left it on the bathroom counter before showering. It took me about 5 minutes to remember where I put it.

  • Oh man, that must have been a bugging feeling all day :(

I take mine off to shower, do dishes, clean, cook extra messy-ish things, do my hair, lotion, swim, etc... anything that could/would harm it.

I have a good friend who lectured me on never taking it off EVER, but sometimes I just have to.  When I do, I always put it in the same spot, even at school if I'm really cleaning/wiping down the tables (because of a student with food allergies) my kids even know it's on my desk and they can't touch anything on my desk at that time.

Yes, same to definitely having an indentation and tan line, and feeling naked without it!

  • I take mine off to shower, lotion, do my hair, clean with chemicals, handle raw meat... I've only forgotten it once though, and was only a few minutes from home so I turned around to get it.

I love the dent! Makes it feel real and permanent already. :)

  • I have a dent, too! My FI says it is "hot"...um ok there, buddy!

So far I have only forgotten it once and it was the longest day ever!

  • Depending on what I'm doing I have to take my rings off at the lab, either because of facility rules allowing absolutely no street clothes (even underwear) to be worn in, or because the risk of the rings putting a hole into the gloves and causing potential viral exposure is to high.

Funny story - when I went to get my E ring sized the jeweller told me I should go a 1/2 or 1/4 size smaller so the ring wouldn't come off. I said that I need to be able to take my ring off for work. He gave me a really weird look and gave me the impression he thinks I have some sort of scandalous job.

  • @eg72 @niccirf No, you're not the only one who never takes it off! And that's good! My mom always told me "You can clean it but you can't get it back if you lose it". She said to never put it on the bathroom sink, kitchen counter, or take it off anywhere because if gets lost down the sink or something you are screwed. Where as you can take it the jeweler anytime you want for a free cleaning. The only think the jeweler told me was bleach will cause microscopic damage over time, but I never clean with bleach.

  • Word of warning to those who never take their rings off - a friend of mine just got a gross, painful rash under her rings because of excess water/soap/lotion clogging up under them. She had to leave them off for several days to let it heal.

  • I feel a little bad reading this. I forget my ring all the time. I take it off when I go to bed and if I'm in a hurry I'll go to work without it.

I don't know if I believe in ghosts but I have had some really strange misplaced objects before. Once My driver's license was in the pocked of a pair of jeans in a suitcase under a bed in my suitemate's room. We didn't find it until the end of year when we were moving.

I keep a ring box by both the kitchen sink and the bathroom sink. My jeweler said the worst thing you can do is wash dishes, because you bang your hand around in the sink and against other dishes so much.

  • @pinkcow13 ghosts are serious business! My dad's house is haunted and I've known it since I was about 15. That ghost never bothered anyone though. The B&B FI and I lived in (our apt was on the back - the innkeepers apt) always had ghosts that would come over to our apt and one hung out there and did not like me being there. I'd get nervous sleeping when FI wasn't there.

@larrygaga that's crazy about your license! We had a bunch of stuff get hidden on us but it was always mundane, like aspirin or makeup, nothing crazy. The ghost always just did little things to let us know it was there. The crockpot was the craziest thing.
  • A few weeks ago I took my ring off in my sleep. I jolted awake knowing my ring was gone. I felt around for it and couldn't find it. I was panicking because we had gone out that night and I had washed my hands in the restaurant bathroom. I don't normally take my ring off to wash my hands, and never when I'm not at home. I woke H up because I was crying so hard. It's an heirloom diamond from his great grandmother. He turned on the light and the damn thing was on the bed. I had been lying on it. Thank God!
  • I only take mine off to shower. I then put it on top of my phone since I never forget my phone.
