  • I'm March 20,2015 , looking forward to hearing about how your experiences were !
  • Do any of you know who you're going to use for flowers yet? Or hotels?
  • We aren't really at that point in our planning so far.  I'm pretty sure we're going to use the Residence Inn because Christopher told me they will frequently provide a free shuttle.  That's really important to us, as we are having a Saturday night wedding a our friends love to party!

Let's keep this thread updated if we find any really good vendors.  I was just looking at the page for A Votre Service planning/flowers, and their stuff looked gorgeous.  Not sure yet if I will hire a planner, though.

  • Thanks for the info on the Residence Inn having a shuttle is very important to us too! Anyone have any photographers that are not crazy expensive I would appreciate it!!
  • I ended up going with Brandywine Florist - they've done Highlawn before and their work looks great.

We're probably going to to Residence Inn as well - my future MIL likes that it's walking distance to the Manor, which is where she wants to have the rehearsal dinner.

As for photographers, we're using Studio A. Her prices were reasonable, based on my research.
  • One question I had for you all that I forgot to include in my post: I didn't actually see the bridal suite at Highlawn. What is it like? How many people could comfortably get ready there?
  • @amalance The bridal suite is tiny.  Christopher called it the "bridal closet" while we were there.  I would not get ready there; it's basically just room for the bride and maybe one other person.  He did say they are planning to remodel it but it will only get slightly bigger.

I was a little bummed we can't get ready there.  I think we'll have to go with getting ready at the hotel and just using the bridal "closet" as a place to touch up.

  • I'd heard it was tiny, but I didn't realize it was that tiny. Good to know. I was thinking about getting ready offsite anyway, since my parents live 5 minutes away and my hair salon is maybe 10 minutes away (and they do have a bridal area, from what I've heard).
  • @amalance thank you for the feedback,  I have a silly question but does the florist set the table arrangements?  Has anyone tried whole foods for flowers?
  • Christopher told me the Highlawn people will set up the centerpieces, but it can't be delivered more than 1.5 hours in advance.  I was wondering about the same thing.

Does anybody remember what they said about rehearsals?  When can you have one?  We're getting married on a Saturday night and I'm sure there will be a wedding the night before, too.

  • Mine is on a Sunday and I was wondering the same thing. I think we will have to rehearse on a week night or earlier in the day on sat.
  • Regarding flowers, I'm not entirely sure. We're using Brandywine Floral Design - I found them to be reasonably priced.

Chris told me that rehearsals are on Thursday afternoons. I don't know if this applies to everyone or just to Sunday brides, but he said they can't do weekend rehearsals because of other weddings going on.

That makes sense.  It does seem a little weird that we can't have our rehearsal the day before, though.  At least it's close enough family should already be in town.

  • Luckily for us, we have a very small bridal party, so even if everyone can't make it in early enough to come to the rehearsal at the venue, I'm not too concerned. I was considering doing an off-site rehearsal the night before, just to run through the ceremony with everyone, but I don't know how necessary it really is.
  • Does anyone have any reasonably priced photographers they can suggest.
  • What do you consider reasonably priced?
  • I am going to use Jacqueline Foxx! Check her out super talented very nice professional and reasonable. As an artist who knows about photography I know she has great work! And I have high standards.
  • We're using Studio A (Adena Stevens) in Hoboken - she's on the upper end of my budget, but I love her work and she's super nice.
  • Re: the bridal closet - my mother and MOH think I should put on the dress at highlawn so I don't have to sit on it, even for five minutes on the ride over. Will it be large enough to just put on the dress, if I do hair and makeup off site?
  • I would plan to put it on off site for sure! It's soooo small!
  • Did anyone do the hotel block yet..I find the residence inn to be pricey and they told me they do not offer a shuttle service.
  • Residence Inn was so pricey!  Haven't blocked anything yet.  I am going to contact Kleinfeld Blocks and see what they can do for me.

  • I have the list of other recommended hotels in the area. I am going to make some calls tomorrow and will update everyone.

  • We're doing Wilshire Grand - they were more reasonable than Residence and said they will do a shuttle for guests.

Amalance I'm getting married at HP on 10/12/14 too! You must be the afternoon wedding right before mine? So awesome!

We've blocked our hotel rooms at the Westminster Hotel in Livingston.  After a TON of research they were the cheapest and still included a complimentary shuttle service.  It was a little bit farther away that I would have wanted, but I didn't want to ask my guests to pay what some of the closer hotels would charge.

We're working with a great florist - Nicole of Broderick's in Bergenfield.  Our photographer is Linda & Peter Photography out of West Milford - they are a little more pricey but willing to work with my budget and what I want...I also like that they work as a husband/wife team and you're not paying for a second photographer.  They're really nice and down to earth, which is very important to us.  We didn't want "in your face" photographers.

Anyone have a good referral for limo? I've been told that they are the most difficult to find as far as being legit and not shady...
  • @njmel that's so funny that we have the same day! Yes, I'm in the afternoon!

I'm also wondering about limos. We're in a weird situation in that we really just need one for a couple of trips between the hotel and Highlawn in the morning and then to take us back after - we don't need the standard few hours to take us between a church, for photos, etc. If anyone has any recommendations that would be great!
  • @amalance Did the Wilshire Grand require you to guarantee 80% booking?  We are leaning toward going with them, but this policy make me nervous.  And have you visited the hotel-- what did you think if so?
