November 2014 Weddings

What have you done??

My wedding date is November 8, 2014.  The only thing I've done is secure our venue and photographer.  Am I way behind?  What have you done?

Re: What have you done??

  • I've booked both also. I also booked a MC for our pre wedding social and wedding. Dress shopping this weekend.
  • I'm kinda ahead of the game. Got the venue, dress, flowers, food, photo and video. Securing the linen rental this week. Ooh! And we ordered our STD and invites. They should arrive this week, too. I've been having fun and am glad to have the big stuff out of the way to avoid stress. My next assignment: cake!
  • I really wanted to have stuff done early so I don't stress at the end. 11/15/14 here. Done: Venue, Catering, DJ, Photographer, Videographer, Cake, photo booth, flowers, dress, officiant, honeymoon, save the dates sent, paper good, some decor bought. Still to do: tuxes, bridesmaid dresses, rest of decor, addressing invitations, escort cards, makeup/hair trials (booked but not done)... And I'm sure more I can't think of.
  • I'm with you! I've not gotten a lot of support from fellow 2014 brides (on a FB group), so instead of encouraging it's discouraging me. :(

We're getting married November 1st. We have the venue and officiant secured. Since we're having a small wedding (75 or fewer guests) we're trying to keep everything low-key. A friend is doing the photography and my mom and sister are doing the cooking. Going to look at dresses for the first time Thursday.

  • Wow!

I am a professional events planner and now I feel behind! Getting married 11/29/14. I got engaged in June and we planned an engagement party with 150 people in September!

I have done: Church, venue, STDs (ordered and sent out since we are getting married Thanksgiving weekend), dress, half the honeymoon, and bridesmaids dress appointment with some selections (but nothing final).

Our next big item is the photographer/videographer... have been meeting but nothing booked yet.

    Cheers!

  • We have our venue (which does everything for us- which is awesome), photog, my dress (squee!), my shoes, and we just started looking at DJs and officiants.

I have been on sabbatical from any "actual" planning, mostly because we have to set aside times to call the officiants, and we always forget on our days off together, but have opposite schedules otherwise.

  • Hey @chelamarie09 we have the same date!!! Its actually our 5 yr anniversary so why not have it as our wedding day.
Anyhoo since we are traveling from GA we decided to go with one of the Vegas chapels. So all we have to do is show up. I have picked the colors, flower, cake style, colors, &flavors. I bought my dress, paid for our rooms. Now I am trying to figure out a mini agenda for those coming to share this day and decide on my STD. Oh and make a list of what I will put in my guest gift/hangover thank you bag!
  • 11/15/14 bride here!

We're have a tiny semi destination wedding so no bridesmaids or groomsmen or anything like that.

what I've got done- night before and day/night of hotel reservation booked, ceremony venue set, invites are printed just need the finishing touches, bought my wedding dress and accessories (but I'm pregnant and will be 2 months postpartum at time of wedding sooo I may need to buy a new one) and were doing a 5 coarse dinner at a local restaurant so "reception" venue is reserved (menu will be determined at a later date).

major things we are booking this week are officiant and photography once those are done i don't need to be as "involved" in getting stuff done. Since its tiny and a semi destination wedding a lot of it is pretty much set.

You might want to buy a dress with an empire waist, and flows at the bottom that way you wont have to worry about your tummy if you still have one. I did this for my first wedding.
  • WE BOOKED OUR HONEYMOON!!!!!! So excited. We're in at St Lucia! We actually we able to splurge a little and get a suite with a butler. I feel like a celebrity! Is this how The Kardashians feel? :D
  • My date is November 8 (@britvahok - Date twin!). Alright, so I have done:

    • Church/Reception Venue
    • Photographer
    • Paper Products - Fi's grandmother offered to make them, STDs will be done this weekend!
    • Dress - Ordered and should arrive late July
    • Rings - Ordered custom made very early. They're supposed to ship tomorrow!
    • Alcohol - Included in reception venue (brewery)

    Other things:

I'm "this close" to pulling the trigger on food. I've talked to the guy and have an awesome quote, I've had his food. The only thing holding me back is that FMIL really wants a different place but if it's too much more expensive, it's out no matter what. I just need to check more with them.

I have leads for cakes, makeup/hair, and flowers, but I haven't spoken to any of them as of yet. Most were suggested by friends.

I feel like I'm in good shape, but maybe I'm not and I'm just kidding myself.

  • My date is November 8th too!

    So far I have:
    • Venue
    • Photographer
    • Officient
    • Caterer
    • My dress
    • Cake
    • Rings
    • DJ
    • Hotel Block
    • Engagement Photos
    • Sent STDs
    • Bought a few decor items
Next on my list is florist and bridesmaid dresses :)

I don't think your behind, you still have plenty of time. I have been trying to stay ahead as we have a busy schedule this summer and are also house hunting, so I am trying to get as much done early as I can.
  • @dodger911 - I'm house hunting too. How will I ever do it all? I was feeling alright earlier, but now I'm just super stressed out about it all. I know I have time, but geez. There's so much to do.

  • @lkristenj - I was also feeling alright about it earlier, but now I'm a bit stressed too. We were supposed to start the process in February and we are only starting now, so I feel two months behind. I know we have plenty of time, but I was just trying to avoid spending every weekend this summer splitting time looking at houses, going to cake tastings, packing, picking out flowers, etc....

Eek! It will be here soon!

I'm getting married Nov 15th.  I have secured the venue (it's owned by my family so that was the easy part), gotten my dress and the BM's have their dresses.  A lot of my wedding will be DIY (I have an amazing friend who is acting as coordinator who is amazingly creative) so I have ideas and have started collecting things.  Myself and 2 of my 4 BM's, along with my friend who is coordinating are teachers, so we have all summer to get some of the crafty things done.  I have my STDates (they are mostly addressed and almost ready to send out).  My pastor (who happens to be a good friend of mine as well) knows about it and has marked it on her calendar; her husband is playing the music for the ceremony.

I have another friend who has offered to do photographs (she is a professional) but FI and I have not had a chance to decide if that is the route we want to go (She is a FRIEND...I want her to be a GUEST, not feel like she has to work...but she offered... so I'm not sure now).  My Aunt and Uncle have a photo booth so we are having that as well. I have my cake picked out I just have to iron out the details with my godmother who will be making it --again, she is a professional (Yes, I am very fortunate to have amazing family and friends who are so talented!!) FI has a friend (technically the brother of one of his groomsmen) who has offered to DJ, but I've never heard him or even met him, so I kinda want to at least meet him before hand!

I still need to get my actual invites ironed out (I have met with the girl who is going to design them, I'm waiting on her first samples), figure out the programs, shoes/jewelry/hair, BM gifts (I have ideas but nothing done yet), figure out the wording for a few parts of the ceremony, and actually get all the decorations and DIY projects together.  The big things are pretty much done :)

ETA:  I need a caterer too!   I have a few ideas but it's just about calling them and deciding on one
  • How far in advance are you guys doing your hair/makeup trial? Is it too soon? I've just recently switched stylists. My stylist went to another salon and of course the salon NEVER tells you where they went, so I'm using someone new. I'm happy with the cut, but not so much how she styles it. So....I'm looking for somewhere to get all dolled up for the wedding.

    We're date twins!
  • 11/29/14 here too!   @rosebubbly is also our date twin!
We had our dream wedding in Las Vegas - 11.29.2014
  • Wow! Four of us on 11/29/14! Now I feel really far behind. All i have done is book ceremony venue and just keep hemming and hawing about everything else. Where is everyone else getting married?!

  • My dress is here, needs to be fitted/altered.  I've booked the venue in Las Vegas.  The good thing about that is that the flowers, photographer and video are all included.  I've send out STDs since it's a destination wedding I wanted to give everyone a bit more time.  Still working on shoes, what to do about a veil or comb/flower and all the other arrangements for a welcome dinner, after wedding events and honeymoon. Seems like a lot as I'm writing it here!  Lot's of hemming and hawing here too!

  • We are on appy couple and are sending our save the dates from there. Doing it this week. Will be glad to check it off the box.

Vegas, but I live here so not DW.  Where are you getting married?
  • November 22 is mine. I've got the Venue and Photographer booked. The hotel block is reserved. My planner, DJ, and officiant are all good friends of the FI and I. My bridesmaid is making my dress, though we still need to nail down the design. Bought the chargers, ordered the Save the Dates (though they're 2 days late on delivery, grumble grumble), and started the homemade wedding mead.

Right now my planner is awaiting quotes on the cake and catering, it kind of puts me a little in limbo and I will admit that it feels weird to have so much and so very little done at the same time. My planner tells me that we are actually very ahead of the game. I feel like a chicken running around with my head cut off. I've planned events before in college, but I don't think I'm all that used to having things being in the hands of others. It's refreshing and daunting at the same time!

November 1st..:) I already booked the Church and reception venue, wedding band, ceremony music, and hair and makeup artist. The hotel block is reserved as well. STDs already sent. And that's about it. I've already talked to some vendors (flowers, deco, catering) But I haven't decided on them yet. It's a bit complicated planning an event long distance (wedding in hometown, I live OOS).

Everyone tells me June is a good month to start booking everything, as long as I already have the "big stuff" (venues & music), which I do, but I still get a little stressed because I feel like I'm really far behind.

Plus we were house hunting in the city where FI lives (we've been long distance for almost 2 years), so I gave priority to that for the past few months. We already found our home (yay!), but it's not finished; they're working on kitchen, closets and bathrooms next, so we have to choose colors, materials and stuff.

It's a lot! But is refreshing to know that they're other brides that are in similar situations time wise and that I'm not that bad in my planning process :)

*Note to self: PHOTOGRAPHER! It's on top of everyones list and I haven't even thought about it.. so dumb!

    happy planning! :)

  • November 29 here. I booked my ceremony venue a long time ago and sent out save the dates two weeks ago. Its a destination wedding. Anyway, today I sent in my contract for my restaurant reception and for my day of coordinator. Just need HMUA, photographer and odds and ends now. So excited!

  • I finally got the STDates out for mine (Nov 15th)...had them done for a while but drug my feet on taking them to be mailed out.
  • @gtgm89 - I've been house hunting too. We close on June 11th and it feels like I have no mental capacities for anything but the house. I'm going crazy. If I can't find some sanity soon, I'll be spiraling into despair in no time. All these good things are happening and I'm too stressed to enjoy them.

  • As for an update. I'm exactly where I was the last time I posted here. Absolutely zero new progress.

l know what you mean. I'm thinking about all the things we have to get done all the time, but I freeze and do nothing. You do have more things done than I do!! :) We need to chill and start enjoying the process.
My only update is that I registered last weekend, so yay! :)
And tomorrow I'm putting down payments on flowers, rentals (tables, chairs, linens and glassware), and booking an appointment for a tasting with the caterer on July (I can't go down there before that).
The thing that worries me the most is the dress. It's very annoying that I don't even want to go and try them because I feel sooo fat (20 extra pounds). I feel that if I go right now I will hate everything and cry a LOT and not for good reasons. Everybody keeps telling me that I'm running out of time, that I have to buy the dress ASAP, but I still want to wait a couple of weeks, I've already lost 25 pounds, but I'm having a harder time losing weight lately. I really don't know what to do about it. Sorry this turned into a dress vent... but I really needed it.

About the house, what really helps me get through the stressful stuff is picturing us already living there :) sipping wine on the roof garden, cooking dinner together in our awesome new kitchen, etc. It reminds me that it's all worth it and keeps me sane and away from fries and milkshakes..:)
But as I said, we have to STOP being more stressed than happy, or we'll go crazy and regret it later. We're in the same boat here, so I feel you. PM me so we can rant together about houses if you want.. ;) good luck!
