@Blue @keptinstitches @goldenpenguin Two-time Accutane user here. My acne wasn't the worst acne ever to grace a face, but it was very bad, and spectacularly resistant. Like, I'd try a new treatment, and my skin would improve a little bit for a month and then go right back to normal. It's been a while, but at the time (1999) I had tried almost everything except birth control. Accutane dried me out uncomfortably (lips being chapped was the worst of it), but that was the only side effect I had the first time. 4 years later, when my acne started coming back, I went back on it again because eh, why not? Side effects were chapped lips again, and some lower back stiffness. The lower back pain lasted for about a year after the treatment, but it was minor and not always an issue. It's basically the same as lower back pain a lot of people get with their periods. After the second round of Accutane, until I went off the pill, I basically had zero zits.

J has like ... distinct plaques of thick, scaley dry skin around one ear, and a patch above one of his eyes. He said that the doctor couldn't help him years ago and that he refuses to go back and waste his time. I feel really shallow and petty, but I really want him to get treatment for it.

I can't even tell if I'm being unreasonable or not. I mean, he is really super uncomfortable and the doctors say this will help, but ... this seems so extreme. So very extreme.

All I know is this upsets me.

@KeptInStitches I'm on a similar drug, honestly (mercaptopurine--basically, a drug that's used for autoimmune/inflammatory disease but is an anti-cancer mechanism). I was terrified of starting it, but it's been smooth sailing. J didn't like it at first, especially because I call it my cancer meds, but things have calmed down.

@keptinstitches how is he feeling about it all? I mean it's completely rational to be nervous about such a strong drug. I would just be absolutely adamant that he didn't miss any appts and had regular blood work.
My hubs has had multiple steroid injections to his eye. I think they're gross but they help him from possibly going blind so I can't complain. This is why he has a cataract now...

He's humoring me. He said he won't start the pills today and will call his doctor tomorrow morning (she's out for the day). My reaction is upsetting him, though - he is really really uncomfortable, he can't hold things, he's in bad shape. And I feel so bad that I'm upsetting him, too, and believe me I'm trying to get this under control.

@keptinstitches I think you guys are both going about this intelligently though. That extra day gives you a bit of time to let it sink in and will give him and you a bit more info to hopefully calm your anxieties. I just wish he wasn't so uncomfy

either way I hope the docs are able to fix him up soon!
