Re: What are you excited/not excited about?

  • Good luck submitting to galleries! Booking the venue is fun! What is yours like? I hope the conversation with your mom goes as well as it can.
    Thank you!

We are going to seal the deal at the town hall in Peterborough, NH. It is super pretty and biiiiiig.

Beautiful! Looks huge! Are you having a big guest list? If not, more room for dancing. :) Here's a picture of the church we got married in. It was small, but so pretty!

BTW I actually think the maze is kind of cool. :) What decorations are you guys planning for the space? You could do so much!

  • So jealous! That city is beautiful!
Well thanks! If you are ever up here, drop me a PM, I would love to meet and do coffee (in the original Sbux ;) ) or HH :)

  • I would be furious about the cake. It's not like he didn't know it was for you. I hope your FI demands an apology from him and makes him make it up to you somehow.
He won't make it up to me- he'll whine about how he can't- but FI promised me a gigantic ice cream sundae with the mid left at home! I believe there has been other punishment as well but I haven't made it home yet.

Will do! When we were in Seattle a few years ago we walked past the original Sbux and almost went in but the line was out the door. :( If you're ever in the Bay Area feel free to drop me a PM too.

I can see the picture now and it is super pretty!!!!!

The HS I attended uses it for homecoming dances a lot, so I know it is good for a shindig!

FI has really bad anxiety when it comes to being center of attention in some situations. Last year, he was BM at his brother's wedding, he didn't have to do anything but stand there and hand a ring over and he was sweating bullets and having an anxiety attack for the duration of their ceremony. He did very well giving his speech at the reception (it was maaaaybe 3 sentences, I wrote it via text message and told him he should probably elaborate. He didn't lol)

He has stated repeatedly that he would really prefer to have a super-small, super-short ceremony with only parents, grandparents (we have 5 between us), WP (2 BMs - brother + lifelong bff, and my 2 MOH), their SOs, the officiant, and whoever is running the sound system. Totaling out at 19 people for that. More than anything, I do not want him to feel like he has to fight off an anxiety attack when we're having our ceremony, so I'm more than happy to keep it small. I have no issue with crowds, but if him being comfortable is on the line, I will do what needs to be done without question.

He has also said he knows I want to have a big dance party reception after the wedding, and he's ok with that as long as we don't do garter tosses and dollar dances or any other crazy shit. So far, we're looking at inviting 130 people just from the list of who we can think of between us, not including people our parents will want to invite because we haven't gotten that far yet.

I have no idea if private ceremony immediately followed by big reception is ok etiquette wise, so that's another fun thing to tackle, too.

God that got wordy real quick!

That's okay! It is fun to hear about other people's planning. :) It sounds like you guys are working to bring your two visions, i.e. what you're both comfortable with, together. Whatever it ends up being, I'm sure it will be beautiful. I think the bride and groom set the tone in that respect too. If you want to be "the guests of honor" you can definitely plan big attention-grabbing moments where everyone is watching you, but if you just want to start dancing and partying alongside your guests and blend in, you can do that too.

  • @SapphireCounselor I have a loooottttttt of ideas. I've been making lists and bookmark folders and all kinds of shit, I just have to pick something. I love art deco and the whole 20's look but I'm worried it's going to look goobertastic since Gatsby came out last year :/

I know whatever I do, I'm designing my own print materials, and will probably end up doing my own flower arranging (going to keep it simple with submersible flowers and floating candles in some tall vases, just don't know which flowers yet), and I just want it to look... ritzy and fancy and cool!

I was thinking Gatsby when I saw that space! That would be beautiful! Lots of well-dressed people, overflowing champagne glasses, and jazz. Sounds perfect :) We actually went really simple on our flowers. We just didn't see the sense in spending a lot on that area of the budget. We also had a relatively small space though that was already landscaped beautifully.

Not excited for: having to pack up my whole apartment and classroom to move, all the "final touches" to do before the wedding... lol, oh, and paying the final bill. ;P

  • I'm excited for the wedding we're going to this weekend! I love the couple so, so much. They are awesome people, and they have a really great event planned.

I'm not excited for the rain that is supposed to be happening. If the weather forecasts are correct, it's going to be lots of showers so it'll be humid. I was going to curl my hair this weekend, but it would be an exercise in futility.

  • Ewww, ewww, ewww! That is worse! I am so sorry! At least you get to leave a little bit early. What kind of conference is it?
    (cut quote box for size)

It's a continuing education conference for veterinary specialists (Cardiologists, Neurologist, Oncologists, Large & Small Animal Internists) where cutting edge research is presented. We also give our Board-certification exams before the conference begins so there's a whole lotta brain power floating around that week.

  • Love your pics- so so pretty!!

I'm excited for this weekend- 2 weddings & 2 cook outs. I'm excited for August when I surprise FI with his 30th birthday trip to NYC. Bonus- my MOH just moved there so I get to see her too!

Not excited- I'm accounting and next week is a short week with month end so those will be super late nights. Not excited to lose 5-10 lbs for my dress fitting lol.

No ring yet (FI is being a perfectionist), and idk if we're doing engagement pics. Haven't decided yet. I don't like how I look in pictures, other than when I declare myself Pope.

Awww! Well I hope you get your ring soon! Engagement photos are fun, but definitely just an additional thing to do if you want to. I actually hate the way I look in photos too and was super nervous at our engagement shoot, but the photographer did a good job. At the wedding I was only vaguely aware of most of the pic being taken, so they turned out well. I suck at posed shots.

Lol thanks! I would not have hurt feelings if I got it soon. He asked and we are officially engaged, he just can't get into buying a vintage ring, and can't find a new ring he thinks I'd like. It's fine by my though, I haven't told many people we're engaged because I don't want to deal with the onslaught of nagging when we're probably not getting married until late 2015.

Posed shots are nooottttttt my deal because I put on a kind of bitchy face. When I smile I look like goob, so I just kind of... smirk lol Hopefully no one expects a big engagement shoot bc I have zero desire to put money into that.

My hair is super straight and has difficulty holding a curl (I used to get perms as a kid, and they'd grow out in 2 or 3 weeks). I tried curling it last weekend for a gala (it was rainy then too), and it held for maybe an hour? I was very sad.

  • Not excited for the amount of work I will have to complete before leaving for the wedding.

I am so excited in 23 days we get married and in 25 days we go on our honeymoon!!!

Awww! I have the opposite problem. I have hair that will not stay straight. It wants to curl so badly, and not in a cute way otherwise I would just let it be. It just tends to get big and frizzy. I am also really lazy when it comes to products/straightening though so that might be part of my issue.

Awww, I'm sorry your curls didn't hold! I'm sure you still looked beautiful though. What kind of Gala was it? Sounds posh.
