Holy shit, ladies.  I went to class this morning, got home and logged onto TK, and walked into the middle school girls' locker room.
You wore stripper heels in middle school? I think even my mom would've stopped me form that, and she was pretty liberal with my clothing.

I'm deciding to ignore all the other crazy that happened. Because shoes....
No stripper heels for me in middle school, but I did get a lot of side eye from my teachers over what  I considered acceptable shoes. I lived in really high wedges back then...the advantage of wearing the same size as your mom and leaving for school after she was at work.

This is the closest I can find to the pair I work the most in 7th grade, except the top was olive canvas.

@beethery I knew we were kindred spirits. I was one too. I kinda sucked at it though. But I know there's at least a couple others, which is why I lol whenever the subject of "ew strippers are gross" comes up.
I just have to say that I watched pole dancing videos on YouTube once- don't ask me how I got on that rabbit trail- and they were amazing.  Not only did those women look super graceful, they were doing some really impressive acrobatics and it just looked like fucking fun.

ETA- I'm still not thrilled about "dollar tricks" though.
DH's cousin teaches pole dancing and even goes to competitions. She got 3rd at a recent one. I'm so tempted to go to one of her classes, but then I feel weird because it's his cousin.
Aw do it!  I bet you will have a blast.
Navel staring? How do straight people have sex? No wait, don't tell me, never mind I don't need to know. I always just figure the short girl gets to be on top if the guy is super tall.

ETA: Aw fuck, wrong quote thread. This was in response to @PrettyGirlLost comment about shorties and tallies having the sex. It's less funny now.
I came here to say something similar--like, what? Why are we assuming missionary? (yours is still funnier, regardless of where you responded).
In order to make a joke!

@afox007 I have these shoes (except the top is the same beige/straw color as the bottom). I live in them during the summer.

Getting kind of back to the OP after messaging FI about all the stripper shoes and what not FI wants me to sign up for a pole dancing class! However, he refuses to ever allow us to install a pole in the house since "your giraffe legs will probably break a window or you'll kick the cat".

Just warning you. If you ever talk him into letting one in the house, get a good one. Too many of those pole dancing accident videos are done with "prop" poles sold in adult stores. They are not meant to hold body weight (even though some of the boxes misleadingly say you can). Also, I have totally kicked my dogs before. They got over it and learn to keep a clear radius of the pole when I am on it. FI will attest that it's not as cool as it sounds to have a pole in the house. I care much more about the progression and dancing for myself than for him. It's like the gym (that lets you dance your feelings out), not a strip club.

History doesn't dissipate because people weren't around when the events occurred. My beef about the removal of past regs is with KGs mostly.

However, events from the past (including actions regarding reg. removal), other threads, on board/off board happenings and current posts with specific people are what shape my opinion of them. Their actions and attitudes are what are divisive. It's not bottled up. My opinion will come out when I disagree or agree....just like any other time.

Yeah. I think it's naive at best to think that just because some people aren't around anymore, or that an event happened in the past, that no one can ever still think about it, have feelings about it, etc. It can be surprising for people who weren't around at the time, but just because there isn't like ... a TK History Textbook doesn't mean that we can't talk about or have opinions about something that happened not-currently.

Or, basically, yes--I agree with you.
I mean, we all have people that consistently rub us the wrong way by their actions.

For example when I see Anne Coulter, my upper lip will curl a bit in anticipation of whatever horrible thing that is going to come out of her mouth and that feeling is fueled by everything else she's said over the past 10 or 15 years that I was aware of her.

Happens in real life with friends, family, coworkers... our experiences with people affect our perception of them and in this case, the way we "read" them.

Lil Minx, Platinum Stages, and X-Pole are all good, reputable and safe brands. StudioVeena also has her own brand which is made by Lil Minx and is purple. There are a variety of finishes and diameters to choose from. The "standard" in the US was 50mm diameter, but it's been moving more and more toward 45mm lately. Australia uses almost exclusively 38mm spinning poles. All those companies should make 50s, 45s, and 40s. They come in chrome, stainless steel, brass, titanium gold, and powder coat finishes most often. They can be permanent, semi-permanent, or fully removable. My pole is a 45mm Titanium Gold X-Pole X-Pert pole. My studio had 50mm brass but recently remodeled and exchanged them for 50 and 45mm Stainless Steel semi-permanent poles from Platinum Stages.

Lulu is the woman in the bottom picture. She gets knocked a lot (but knows how to take it). I know you meant no harm by it. I read Lulu's blog and am friends with her on facebook. She's an amazing and strong woman. I just get riled up when she gets treated as any less than wonderful because people don't see past what a "pole dancer" should look like. That picture is from when she auditioned for America's Got Talent.

I know the feeling and awkwardness of just starting out, though. I cringe looking back on my old videos now. Not that I'm too much better than I was then!

  • @SaraBrideSoon - Oh don't do that! I did too, but practice truly does make perfect... or at least better. I do it because of the way it makes me feel, not because of how I look doing it. I say as long as you're doing moves safely and within your limits, who cares what you look like.
