Last time I checked there is no sales tax on giving cash.

Also, when I buy someone a $25 gift card it is actually $25. How is it less? I don't understand that comment.

I'm thinking it's because you could only purchase something that's $23 as once you add the tax the $25 card is eaten up. How this is any different than giving some $25 cash I do not know because well, most normal people realize there are taxes or would just kick in the extra couple of bucks if it goes over $25. Frankly, that argument was beyond dumb but I'm not surprised considering the rest of he post.

Also, I I'm super tired of the "but we have unique circumstances" or "our situation is special" bullshit. Someone wanting others to pay their way is nothing special or unique, it's just plain greedy. A special circumstance is when you're accomodated at a job or event due to a disability. Or basically when you or your sitatuion is different than 99% of others. Wanting money or having a lot of stuff already? Yeah, sorry. You should consider yourself fortunate, not unique.

After 6 years and 2 boys, finally tying the knot on October 27th, 2013!

Tacky is in the eye of the beholder. My point on gift cards is that the giver pays $100 and the receiver does not get that full amount...the same argument against the honeymoon sites. They cancel each other out. I agree that any gift is appreciated. My BFF has a great system, that I find works wonders. She buys things that are perfect for the recipient for no reason. A gift that the recipient really loves is way more important to me than what others think of that gift. My only point. And as for things the couple doesn't need? Seen it plenty of times. And expensive things. Especially those Kitchen Aid stand mixers for upwards of $200-300. Yeah, the thing they pull out once every two years. I simply have no judgment over folks that travel. Or want cash. Or home decorations. Or charities. Or nothing at all.
Huh?  I LOVE my kitchen aid mixer!  Perhaps you don't like to, but I love to cook, bake and entertain, so that thing gets used alot.

I was also what could have probably be termed as an "older" bride.  I'd lived on my own for quite some time and was well-established.  I still managed to find plenty of things to register for.  My registry was not full of "shit that folks never really use".  We put thought into our registry, found many things to upgrade and have used EVERY SINGLE THING that was bought for us.   Many times.
