My "hypothetical" dress price pictures!

Remember my "hypothetical" dress situation? Well these are 3 dresses I really like. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Alfred Angelo Jasmine Princess gown. It's the $1200 gown. The middle gown is Mori Lee and it's about $900. I like it a lot though it reminds me more of a younger wedding dress and since I'm doing a vow renewal I'm iffy on it. The third is a Demetrios Oreasposa gown so I am not allowed to take pictures in it. The bottom simply goes all the way to the floor with the slightest train. The model is slim and gorgeous, you see what I look like. LOL. I like it a lot but part of me says "Ugh halters" and part of me says "This looks like every dress women wore in the 90's". But man, the price ya know.

Things to remember. I can afford all the dresses. Do I want to? My dress will NOT have a train, so any train will be removed. NONE of these gowns were my size. They were all too big, hence the breast area being wonky or the cleavage.

  • Well they're not hypothetical if you've tried all these dresses on already!

  • I have to say, I adore that $1200 dress.  I think it is absolutely lovely, I love the beading on the bit of a sweetheart neckline, and I adore the material it's made out of, I think it's really just elegant and sort of carefree.  I also think that dress will move better than the others- The shape of the skirt should allow you more movement, and the fabric will flow really beautifully when you move.

I also think that the belt on the first dress is PERFECT.  It hits you at just the right spot on your body to give you a really lovely shape.  Out of the 3, I would say that is the most figure flattering on you.  Not to mention, given the skirt on that, I think if you were into the idea at all, that dress would be very easy to have shortened after the wedding, giving you a really kickass cocktail dress to wear when you go on a really nice date to celebrate your anniversary.

I would 100% say go with the $1200 dress you love, it is really lovely and looks really good on you.

  • I like the Jasmine dress best. It is absolutely beautiful. I do not like the Mori Lee at all. I also like the Demetrios dress. It is beautiful but does not have the "wow" factor the Jasmine does.

  • Wow. I really love #1 on you, hands down. Honestly I think #2 is just not as flattering. It's hard to tell about #3 without seeing it on you.

  • I had an AA Disney gown so I'm partial to Jasmine.

If money is not an issue then I'd say #1 all the way - but i don't think it looks like a $1200 dress. I don't care for #2 on you, sorry. Can't say for sure on #3...looks good on the model though. ;-p
    ~xoxo~

  • I think #2 is the best.  I just don't care for the top of #1, I don't think it does anything for you.

I love the $1,200 dress. My second choice would be the least expensive one, but it is hard to judge when we can't see you in it!

  • Have you looked at any evening gowns yet like suggested in other posts? You'll likely have better luck finding a more reasonable price point and less youthful/bridal look... just kind of confused that you keep saying you don't want a super bridal look, but that seems to be all you're trying on/looking for.

I agree that 1 looks the most suitable for a vow renewal out of those three, but only because they're all obviously wedding dresses.

  • I definitely like #1 the best. I feel like #3 is a little dated, but depending on how it looks on you I think it could work. #2 is my least favorite.

  • I'm personally not a fan of halters. They look a little "young" to me. That being said, the first dress is lovely on you and I think it would be perfect for a vow renewal!

  • I think that the first one is stunning. It is extremely becoming of you. It also looks like it would be more fun/comfortable to dance in and be wearing for multiple hours.

I say if it fits in your original dress budget then why not go for it!

I just went back and re-read your post. It sounds like you've already found your dream dress! :)

  • I think you are just feeling guilty about spending this much on your vow renewal.  I like the first one.  The second one does not flatter you, and it is too" wedding dress".  Go for the dress that you love.

  • My best friend says teh second dress is out because it already looks like a BIG X across my chest.

This is our vow renewal, but we are doing it very formal. I'm not wearing a veil or having a train, but I'm still wearing a gown. Not a ballgown which is what I mean when I say "super bridal look". I still want a wedding dress though, just a more mature look, which I why I keep gravitating towards #1.

This. It really does look amazing!
  • I may be biased because I also have an AA Disney gown but I love the way #1 looks on you! You look super happy and it totally rocks your awesome curves the way it should. ;)

Honestly, I think it's kind of weird to be shopping for a wedding dress for a vow renewal. I think the first one looks the best, though.
This is exactly what I was coming on here to say. And that's a pretty shitty thing to say @CMGragain. I don't think it's a good dress for a vow renewal, but I don't think it's unflattering on her at all.

Personally, I think all of those choices are way too much for a vow renewal. They are pretty, but entirely over the top.
  • She did ask for opinions.  I think the first one would work the best for a vow renewal, minus the train.

  • Eh... I'm not really bothered by people buying wedding-looking dresses for vow renewals, as long as its not some ridiculously extravagant ball gown. I really love #1, and it sounds like that's what your heart is set on. If it was out of your budget, I'd say no. But since it's still in your budget, don't go for a cheaper one just to save money. I don't really like #2, sorry. #3 is nice, but hard to know how it will look on you. I think #1 is very flattering and romantic.

@CMGragain you didn't offend me or anything don't worry.

I am way more confused/offended by people who want to treat the celebration of my successful 10 year marriage as unimportant and not "wedding gown" worthy. I find it hard to understand why a vow renewal doesn't deserve everything as beautiful and wonderful, maybe just in a more mature manner, than a wedding itself.

Yet we don't really bat an eye when someone is having a big 2nd, 3rd or even 4th wedding. Honestly most people are being very supportive of what I'm doing and how I'm doing it. The only thing I'm really doing "out of etiquette" is having 2 attendants on my side since my little boys are on my husband's side.

I think we need, as a society, to work on successful unions and celebrate in any way we can in order to teach younger generations how to make relationships last forever and bring the divorce rate down.

  • I think if you are going to hack the train off of a wedding gown, buy the less expensive one.
  • I like the Jasmine dress the best.

Honestly no, I don't find a "successful 10 year marriage" to be that big a deal. Talk to me at 50. But that has nothing to do with my comment. YOU WERE THE ONE who has said multiple times "I don't want a big fancy wedding dress" but then posts exactly that type of dress. "I can't find what I want in bridal stores!" Well duh, they sell wedding dresses. Seems you only want to appear interested in a demure gown but buy the OTT dress you didn't get the first time around.

  • And if you think promoting 10 year parties is the way to keep the divorce rate down you've seriously got your priorities out of whack.
