So I saw this on Pinterest (fucking Pinterest) last night and it pissed me off so I'm sharing it with you all.

Ok so here's whats going on, there are four young ladies, one has just received her college degree the other three are engaged and showing off their rings. Engaged girls have big smiles! College degree girl has a big frown. Because ya know, all she has is this college degree! Four years of college and no MRS for her! Sad face!

The comment on it was "Oh this so gonna be me! But at least I'll have my degree...right? Right?!" What. The. Fuck. This is just...just...fucking bullshit yo! Get your fucking degree and be fucking happy because you have a degree! You've got plenty of time to get married. Fuck, your friends are dumb asses if they got engaged and didn't finish college because of getting engaged FYI.

I would just say that this is a really STUPID joke... but unfortunately, I know girls like this exist.

I teach at an all girls high school, and I swear so many of them have this attitude. Their goal is to marry rich and not have to worry about this finances/job stuff. I always try and encourage them to be more independent and empowered, but some just don't seem to care.

Yes, I know someone who went to school for her MRS and now has 2 divorces under her belt (moral of the story never get married on the rebound). But she does also have a Master's degree so at least her tuition money wasn't wasted.

But it's not funny...at all. And even if they are posing this way just to be funny it still perpetuates the idea that for a woman getting married is a bigger, more important accomplishment than getting an education and that she shouldn't be proud of her accomplishment because she's not engaged. The comment underneath it is just further proof that it's not funny but just an example that this sort of thinking still exisits in our society. It's disusting and offensive.

There were girls like that at my high school too. They made me really sad. Like, why don't you want to achieve anything in life? Like anything at all?

We also had a lot of girls get engaged in high school and some actually got married right after graduation. I just did not see the appeal. These were the same girls who would tell me how they saved themselves and I didn't and I was a whore because they WAITED until they got married. Bitch you got married at 18, you had sex at 18, no one is impressed you waited until you were 18 to bang.

As a current college student who happens to be engaged, that pisses me off. My college degree comes first, I know this, my FI knows this, my whole family knows this. Its the reason why we will have been engaged for three years, and together for four by the time my wedding date rolls around. I'm finishing college before I tie the knot, because having that degree is my number one. Having the love of my life there to support me is a major plus, but those girls that think its ok to drop out of college just because they got engaged are the same girls who will never become strong, independent women who know what they want and know how to get it without opening their legs.

This phrase kind of rubs me the wrong way. If she wouldn't have gotten her degree would her money be "wasted"? Is having a lifelong experience in which you have a lot of personal growth a waste of money? I don't have my degree because I never finished, but I do not find the two years of college courses to be a waste. I learned a lot and gained a lot of very important life lessons.

The good news is that type of bullshit isn't just for women anymore! When my cousin graduated from college he was the last of his friends to do so because he got his masters. All of his friends were married except him and they did a similar picture as a joke.

There were girls in my high school planning on going to Johnson Bible College who actively called it Johnson Bridal College since the point of that school, apparently, was to find a husband. They all planned on getting married and dropping out before they even started. What really confused me was those same girls worked hard and took a lot of pride in the fact they were straight A students in high school. I will never understand how the mentality of school being so important shifts immediately into school means nothing I just need to get married to have worth.

If she had dropped out of college at 19 to get married, yes, I think the money would have been wasted because in her particular case I didn't see a whole lot of personal growth or life long experiences. I saw her date two guys and marry one of them. For the first two years of school she never talked about any other experiences in school besides those men. After she got married she changed her major and started to talk about other stuff. It was kind of like she was now able to move onto the next goal since the primary one was accomplished.

As someone who works in higher education this makes me sick. This is 2014. Life is way more than getting married, especially as a teen/young 20-something. I had no interest in marriage when I graduated from undergrad. Zero. I was more concerned about building a life for myself at that point.

I did get married two months after I graduated with my master's degree. I was 27 and was with a man who fully supported everything I was doing related to school. It was tough. We were long distance for years because of my degree but neither of us felt like it was a comprise. It was an absolute priority for me, and he fully supported it. More than fully supported it. There were times when I thought the stress wasn't worth it and he emphasized how important it was and centered me again.

But it was amazing how, when I had both my graduation and wedding within two months of each other, the milestone of graduation became an after thought to many people in my life. It pissed me off for exactly the reason that this picture hints at. I'm not even talking about attending the graduation ceremony. But while virtually everyone was going crazy congratulating me on the wedding, very few people mentioned the degree. I was very vocal about grad school and graduation. Anyone who knew me knew how important that was to me.

As far as I know, none of the Duggar girls have attended any higher education. I don't think they are forbidden from it, but it sure as hell isn't encouraged.

Secondly, as @Cookie Pusher mentioned, the diploma holder thingie says Wheaton College. Wheaton College as in the one that believes signing a religious non-profit opt out to push the cost on contraceptive coverage for their employees onto the insurance company/government is a heavy moral burden. And sinful.

Honestly, those bitches in the picture should be pregnant.

Duggar girls? No, they are not encouraged at all (outside of schooling for being a midwife). They have other friends like the Bates who have daughters who go to some bible colleges. I've read they are really ways to find a mate. Not sure they are even accredited.
