Re: Share your dress (or dream dress!)

  • @buttercup1958 - I bought that same dress, but with one of the patterned materials instead. The top is the most beautiful thing I have ever worn. However, I am too tall, so it started flaring out at an awkward place on my torso. I was so so depressed I had to send it back. It really is a fun dress. However, maybe just think of/describe it as a dress, rather than a wedding dress. It's not technically a wedding dress, so there's no need to sound BSC ;) Haha
  • EisleyJoGo You are right. I just thought it was a fun thread to join in. It's kinda quite around here since it's the summer and most of my friends won't come back till August. I'm 5'4 so I think it hits me right. Thanks for being really nice about it. V knows I'm on this website and I haven't done any "pre planning". I guess that was my one moment of BSC.

  • I got engaged in May, and bought my dress in June, and we're getting married next May. I honestly didn't expect to find THE dress as soon as I did, but once I put it on, I was sold.

  • OH, my dress is also nothing like what I thought I would end up with. Everything I liked before was lacy, with cap sleeves. The first go-round of trying things on, I actually loved a ballgown on me. I NEVER EVER thought I would be able to wear a fit & flare, but I absolutely love my dress & I can't wait to wear it!!

  • @jenna8984 - love love love love! That dress is gorgeous!

@Dignity100 - I think you're being crazy, your dress looks beautiful on you! It's so pretty and it fits your Disney wedding and I think you are going to look beautiful. If it makes you feel any better, I've known for a few years that I would like to wear my grandma's dress, and it fits and I love it and am so happy with my decision, but I've still had a couple moments of "Should I have tried on other dresses? Should I still do that?"

  • But while we're on the subject, this was the dress I bought for my last wedding.  I bought it in November, and it came in right around Valentine's day, so I'm not a believer in this whole "you need so much time to order a dress" nonsense... I should have waited longer, and then I wouldn't have bothered paying for a dress!!  (Maybe top designers are different, but I will never know)image

  • @Dignity100 at my first fitting I was like wow this is a lot of dress, this is going to be annoying.  I sort of had dress regrets and was thinking I should have gone with something simpler more of an A line.  I had a few weeks in between my second fitting when I went back I realized yes it will be annoying to move around in, but I loved it and felt like a princess.  It was worth it, I loved the dress I wish I could wear it again. I think you look gorgeous and the dress perfectly fits your Disney wedding.

  • @imcooper86 Thanks!! I went in with my pinterest-y pictures of all lace boat necks and lace keyhole backs and said "I will only try on this, it must be this". And those all looked like shit on me. The lace over the chest was so thick and scratchy and matronly, it was just not happening all dainty and elegant like the photos. I was SO glad my best friend pulled this one for me to try!

  • So much of the lace was scratchy to me ... including the one you like, @blackbird230. I tried that one and couldn't get it fully on - too many sensory issues for me. I envy people who can wear any fabric!
  • I am not engaged yet either, but since BF has ordered a ring, I have been looking online at dresses and saving them to a secret Pinterest board. I refuse to go try any on or buy one before I am actually engaged though. With that said, here are some of my favorites, but who knows, my tastes may change. I like princess-y gowns, and definitely want a large dress.

  • @Imcooper86 & @peaseblossom55 - I know what I'm feeling is pretty normal.  We get 1 day and 1 time (hopefully) down the aisle so we just want everything to be perfect.  I just keep seeing all the 'smaller' dresses (ha, can't get much bigger/poofier than mine unless you're on that 'My big fat gyspy wedding' show) and thinking that maybe that would have been the way to go.  I also keep thinking 'is my dress too 'young' for me/should have I went with a more mature silhouette'?  I know all of this is normal, I think it's because my dress JUST came in and everything will be fine.

  • @Dignity100 I think you look beautiful in your dress, and that it really fits a Disney wedding! I may be a bit biased (see my post above!), but I feel like a wedding is one of the only times in life other then prom that a woman can wear a huge ball gown. And where better to do so then at Disney of all places?!

  • I don't have a dream dress, but I have an idea of the style I'll end up with. Lacy with no poof. I'm itty bitty (4'10"), so I don't want the dress to wear me. I love seeing so many petite women on here and getting an idea of what they're wearing. You guys seriously have great taste! @KeptinStitches I'm seriously drooling over your dress. I love the Audrey Hepburn/Kate Middleton vibe it has. I would love to wear something like that!

Most of the styles I've bookmarked have been similar to this:

My wedding is until October 2015. I made an appointment at a dress shop for October 11, but I'm not planning to buy anything at that time. I don't think I'll seriously start looking until January or February.

  • @eilis1228 - I started dress shopping first week of Jan this year, I'm indecisive and it took me until March to make up my mind. A couple of shops told me I was really starting to limit my designer choices. Really though - you can still pay rush fees (probably won't need to as long as it's ordered by end of March, early April).

@dignity100 Honestly, sometimes I worry that I've made a wrong decision with my dress. Not because I don't love it, but because it's a bit out of my comfort zone. And like @goldenpenguin, I expected I'd end up with something different. I knew I wanted sweetheart strapless, a-line with a dropped waist, but ... SPARKLY and TULLE and APPLIQUES, I honestly would have laughed in your face had you told me, before I found the dress, that I'd pick something so amazingly glitzy. I was planning on plain satin.

  • @ellis1228 I'm 4'10" also finding a dress that didn't wear me was hard.. I brought my honest friend with me dress shopping and she was there when I found my dress she would have been honest if it didn't look right.  The only thing it did was up the ante so to speak on the whole wedding.

    Double post sorry!
  • @bride2b71614- I think I like the first one.  Very pretty on you.  Although it's hard to say without seeing you in the second one- oh my goodness the dresses in the pictures vs. actually on don't even look like they could possibly be the same ones sometimes!

  • @bride2b71614 - I love the first one, it reminds me of one of the dresses I almost went with (but I decided I wouldn't feel 100% comfortable/confident in it).  Did you try it with a belt/sash - I think it MIGHT give it little extra pop (doesn't have to be a heavily blinged out belt).

You said it sista. I did not expect to get what I got...appliqués, sparkles, and lace...all in one dress??? I didn't anticipate this craziness and thought mine would be very simple, clean lines, no frills, and short. But damnit I love my choice!

I will second everyone here when I say that @dignity100, you did not make the wrong choice. Your dress is perfect on you, and it fits perfectly into your disney wedding. Unfortunately they didn't give me a sash to try on :(@goldenpenguin, I also never thought I'd look good in a fit and flare! It shocked the hell out of me when I tried it on. Funny how things work out like that.
  • @bride2b71614 - Here's the dress that I liked that was SIMILAR to your first one - I LOVED the dress and the shape. My mom didn't like the fit and flare on me - then again she didn't love my dress either (I think she would have been happier if I wore a men's turtleneck and baggy trousers). http://www.allurebridals.com/products/2557
