Why is The Nest so dead?

Every once in a while I venture over there and come right back because there's nothing going on. There's more OMHs over here than there. Why do you think this is? Are most people inherently less interested once the wedding's over, is there just no need for a forum for day-to-day life after the wedding planning, is it the lack of a general chit-chat forum, or lack of investment from the company?

Are you familiar with GBCN? There used to be a decent sized community over on TN, then when all the shit went down across the XO forums-huge technical problems, censorship issues, etc, the regs decided to take the party to Proboards and formed GBCN (Goodbye Cruel Nest). The Nest's page views plummeted by something like 80%. It's never recovered.

Ahhhh. No I wasn't aware of that, though I'm vaguely aware of what I'm assuming were similar issues that started the treehouse.

It was pre-Treehouse. Maybe a year before that? It was around the time that some of TK regs formed the Thunderdome, which is another Proboards offshoot.

Also TN is the most under-promoted property from XO. It just doesn't have the same draw that planning a wedding/pregnancy does.

It was pre Thunderdome. Maybe the summer before?? There's a couple of regs still left, mostly on Married Life and TIP I believe. But actually, a couple and that's it.

And I think it never recovering is in part to the nature of the beast. There are always going to be new brides coming along needing advice for wedding planning. If they come along to The Nest and lurk and see there are not that many active posters, they are not likely to even attempt chitchat or questions and just move on somewhere more active to check out and join.

I lurk on The Nest all the time to read relationship drama and noticed it has slowed to a crawl. It makes me sad that there is such a lack of activity. I agree with what AddieCake said: There will always be new brides looking for advice here.

I try every once in a while to move to some boards over there, but I just can't do it. I don't know anyone, I can't lurk and figure out who regs are. It's just always different. I think the Book Club board is pretty active with regs though.

Money Matters is decently active (at least by TN standards)... Most of them are painfully slow though...

Yeah, it's much easier to join a community if you can lurk it a bit. If there's nothing to lurk, I can't get comfortable.

Like others have said, there will always be new brides and new pregnant ladies, but in the interim there really isn't much to plan or get advice on. I mean if I want house decorating ideas or advice I will head on over to Pinterest or HGTV. If I want recipes I will go to Food Network or Pinterest. If I want money advice I will talk to a financial advisor. I mean there are plenty of other places to gain ideas. But when it comes to weddings and pregnancies you tend to want to talk to those people who have either gone through it or are going through it with you.

I used to try to be active on the travel board there, but I kept seeing a million posts about traveling with kids. Makes sense I suppose, but it's not my cup of tea and I abandoned ship.

I went over to TN to try and post stuff, but like people was saying, it was dead. Besides, I get awesome advice and comments here - I just don't feel the need to switch sites. I was so sad about the pet board being so dead. Lots of people have pets and are getting new pets, but there was just nothing.

Yea, that board seems to have more posts then others, and man it does get depressing fast! I tried using the house buying board when we were going through the process.... but pretty slow. I still go over and post sometimes though!

Whether we liked those regs or not, everyone pretty much agreed the way the bannings were handed down by the KG's (who had used them to troll other boards) was stupid (and it involved a lot of back room dealing with HisGirlFriday, which is why people have beef with her).

I think it's public still. I poked over there for a bit when it was first created.

Thank you! I've wondered about that! I like it here, though I admit that I tend to skip over any post that has over 100 responses. I assume that means drama.

And @lolo883, pretty sure you were invited, and TH is very welcoming of new members. It's way more chit chat than wedding since most of us are OMHs now.

I posted a few times in their Sexuality and Dating/Relationship sections, but I found most of the posters to be...well...idiots. And it was frustrating trying to give my rational viewpoint and have them just be like "durrr, I think this is how life is" and I'm just like "uh, no."
