Re: Thursday Chatter

  • @500days @swazzle you guys are both in MA? Have you ever been on the Codzilla speed boat in Boston harbor? I haven't yet but FI is dying to do it. Also duck tours, it's so touristy that we haven't done it but we kinda want to.

  • Thanks for all the love everyone, I'm confident things will work out, but in the meantime, holy shit. I hope cake fixes everything!

I have a WR question: did you guys have a reception timeline like right down to the minute? Right now I know ceremony starts at 6:00, will end hopefully 6:20, cocktail hour from 6:20-7:30 and reception from 7:30-11:30. Did you guys have "okay at 7:30, wedding party enters and at 7:40 the first dance, etc." I'm not going to worry about it but it's in the back of my mind.

  • @swazzle got it!  go post!  same with @peaseblossom55 and anyone else who has read 11/22/63

@buddysmom80 Our DJ made our entire reception timeline down to the minute, haha.  Our venue had one too and we kinda combined them to our liking and then forwarded the timeline to both of em

  • @buddysmom80 -Yes I made a wedding timeline down to the minute. It seems a bit neurotic but my wedding coordinators wanted one to go by that way the evening would flow more smoothly for the DJ and for the coordinators to help prepare things before they happened. I think it worked out quite well but I didn't think about it one bit the day of. They pretty much handled it from what I gave them.
  • @Jenna8984 BF and I have done the Codzilla twice and it is freaking AWESOME! make sure to go on a warm day because you get wet, but on the ride back into the Harbor, you dry off because of the sun!
    friends tv show funy
  • @blue & @southernpeach89 I'm hoping that our DJ will figure out something. Maybe I should e-mail him, I don't know.

To be honest, I never really paid attention to the order of the events at a wedding as a guest because cocktail hour. Now I'm like "AM I GOING TO DO IT WRONG???"

  • @Buddysmom80 -I googled sample timelines to kind of help lay out the evening and your DJ and wedding coordinator at your venue should definitely be able to assist you with that.

I live in New Jersey but H and I are going to Boston this Saturday-Monday as the first leg of our roadtrip. H has never been and I've been once but we literally walked a couple blocks and drank our faces off.

  • @buddysmom80 I would give your DJ and/or venue coordinator an email and see what they typically have.  Then kinda make it your own (for instance, we didn't do any tosses, etc. and had an announcement about a family tradition kinda thing)  We got most of our timeline done during our last meeting (phone call) with our DJ.  He knew what was normal, etc

I think I did ours like in 15 minute intervals?

I can send you mine if you want.

ETA: Oops, reading fail on my part. I didn't come up with a schedule for the actual wedding itself. Mine is just for getting ready and before the ceremony.

  • @caseface5 Woohoo!! I will have to give it a shot now!

@swazzle That's hilarious!! Boston is so badass, make sure you see good stuff this time!

  • @blue we have a meeting with the DJ in November, so that's probably what we're going over. I feel like I have a lot of "logistical" meetings in November.

@swazzle that's another problem I'm having!!! I'm debating about booking my photographer for another hour. We have them for six hours but if our reception ends at 11:30, then she's only there a half hour before the ceremony for bridal/BP pictures.

I'm horrible with timelines and schedules apparently!!!!

  • @buddysmom80 for your photographer, is it possible to do the pictures during your cocktail hour?  I think it might be a little rushed, but maybe that's how six hours would work?  Or you could totally book for another hour and make things more chill.  Keep in mind that your guests will be arriving by 30 minutes before the ceremony, so your venue may have you hiding out so that your guests don't attack you before the ceremony :)

@buddysmom80 I had a rough outline ish, some of which was suggested by the DJ most of which for the reception was run by the venue coordinator we had the day of our wedding.

  • @eilis1228 We did STDs because 99% of our guests are OOT. We ordered STD postcards from Vistaprint and got 100 postcards for $20.

  • Man! A lot of conversation happened before I got here! That was a bit of reading!

On the topic of STDs - USE PROTECTION, LADIES!

Can I just say, first of all, that @eilis1228 is the champion of responding to peoples' posts? She replied to FOURTEEN ladies at once! What a pro. . .

@Hummingbird125 - I haven't tried gnocchi yet either, but that recipe is enough for me to find the drive.

@blabla89 - Your coworker brought in BACON?!?!? My coworkers bring coffee, or banana bread, or donuts. But if they brought in bacon I would make myself their slave in the hopes that they may bring bacon just for ME.

@bookishgiraffes - Shin splints already? Honestly, you may want to try different shoes. Especially if they already started on your first day.

I'm glad I ran today. I'm at 11 days of not smoking, and it's been pretty easy, honestly. I had my down days, but I'm back up! My dad is 100% awesome with no complications. I finally got that sex I wanted, although the conversation afterward wasn't fabulous. I made an amazing dinner on the BBQ I got BF for his birthday. Really feel like I could be a grill master in no time! Marv got a new bone, so he's a happy camper, and I may have already found a new daycare to try out. Plus I got the whole kitchen cleaned, put away the clothes on the bedroom floor, and vacuumed. It felt awesome.

Today is much better than yesterday.

  • @jenna8984- I live in RI now, but I spent many of my years growing up in Arlington.

@swazzle- Are you parking your car or taking the T into Fenway for the game?
  • H just texted me about his knee, he has to get an MRI done & it will take a few days for the approval from his insurance to come through before going.  If it's just the MCL he will need a few weeks of risk, but the doctor wants to look to see if there is anything going on with the meniscus.  Hopefully not and no surgery is needed. Le sigh...

@severmilli12 I hope your FI is okay! I actually had a similar experience when I was 15. I had terrible pain in the right side of my abdomen and was rushed to the ER, went through all the same tests and the doctors came up with nothing. They kept me overnight for observation and then I had to go to a gynecologist the next day to get my ovaries checked for cysts (something that he probably won't have to worry about!), and they still found nothing. The pain subsided in about 5 days and I have never had anything like that happen since. I still don't know what caused it, but I hope that he has a similar experience where it goes away on its own.

Yesterday was a bit stressful at work, but nothing that I couldn't handle. BF and I went out to dinner at a nice Italian restaurant with a view of the bay and they were having a half price bottle of wine special, so we ordered two bottles of a French Chardonnay. It was delicious, and the food was good too. We had a really nice time just relaxing and talking.

Oh, and my friend called me on my lunch break because she was freaking out over the price of flowers for her wedding. The florist quoted her $14,000!!!!! Do any of you know any good florists in the Albany or Saratoga, NY area?

Today so far looks like it's going to be an easy day at work. I just need to put some presentations together and send some emails. Nothing too exciting going on here. I'm looking forward to the weekend because it's the first one in a month where BF and I don't have any plans, and don't have to travel across the country again for a long time (we did it twice in the past month!). Oh, and we might even get a thunderstorm (which almost never happens here).

Ugh today can go away. Nothing terrible, just ... this fatigue will NOT quit. I'm tired of being tired.

@Buddysmom80 I'm so sorry you're going through this. Cake actually MIGHT make everything better; sometimes, it helps to have to "act normal" for a bit to get things back to where you're feeling comfortable together. It took J and I a good week or so to get to that point in June. It was made worse by the fact that I'd gotten hopelessly addicted to Once Upon a Time, so I wanted to be alone to watch it, even after we'd made up.

@severmilli12 UGH I'm so sorry that FI didn't get any answers! I hope the pain subsides very soon and that his trip goes smoothly.

@eilis1228 We did save-the-dates, although we didn't do the cheapest option. I want to emphasize that they are REALLY optional, even if you have lots of out of town guests, and even if you're getting married near a holiday. And they can be pretty informal; my cousin used Paperless Post for his, for example.

@swazzle Oh my god, Fenway is NUTS during Yankees games! I'm not allowed to go to Yankees games anymore because I've been to three and the Yankees always win when I go.

    @KeptInStitches YAY SECURITY DEPOSIT! :D:D:D

Today, I have to finish my Western blot (send good vibes, please!) and my FACS (also good vibes, please!) with my undergrad. After work, J and I are heading down to Brookline to order our ketubah. I am extremely excited because we each had a favorite, and he happily agreed to my favorite because he knows that it means more to me. I did like his, but it just felt a little too ... twee, if that makes any sense. It was too pretty. I wanted something a little more serious. I'm so excited for the one we're ordering; it'll be worth the awkwardness that comes with being a non-religious Jew marrying a former Catholic, buying a ketubah from a shop run by Orthodox Jews.

I need to get up the courage to tell my best friend that I'm not up for visiting her this weekend. I need a weekend to recharge. My cousin's wedding last weekend completely exhausted me, and the following weekend is the start of our family trip.

  • @phira good job taking a weekend off to fix yourself! After all, it is likely best if you stop being so exhausted before your NEXT infusion! I hope they're not that close together for your sake! Also, the only Fenway game I ever went to was against the Orioles on July 4th (maybe 2011 or so?). The Orioles won, and here I was with a freakin Orioles fan (I didn't let him wear an Os shirt cause I didn't want to DIE though, so he was in plain clothes) just like ready to beam ear to ear while all the Boston people were all ready to cry. It was awkward. I imagine it being so much worse during Yankees games, lol. Good luck, @swazzle!

You don't have to have the photographer stay until the very end. Mine left right after the cake cutting since all that was left to do after that was dancing our booties off and I don't really need 2398472389 pictures of that. We do have a bunch of dancing pics from before the cake cutting but having her stay for another hour or so after that would have been pointless for us.

I'm thinking the T. I think we'll end up leaving our car parked in the garage the whole time we're there since that's easier. And we're only 2 blocks from the Boylston stop.

I guess I should work on that reception timeline then. Womp womp. That's a good idea for me to have them stay for the cake-cutting and that's it. That might give me an hour of wiggle room before the ceremony.

  • @buddysmom80 we had two photographers, the second left after cake cutting and the other stayed around until the end of the reception.  It seemed silly but in case something cute or funny happened we wanted it to be captured.

@swazzle Yeah, I'd T that. Better than paying like ... $40 for Sox gameday parking.

@Blue I still have to schedule my next infusion, but it'll be towards the beginning of September. I think I would have been better this week if I had that second weekend to recuperate. This is so much better than having active IDB, but STILL.

  • @AuroraRose41 - HOLY SHIT $14k?!?!?! That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

@phira - I'm sorry you're so tired :( I'm really looking forward to seeing Fenway! H is a Yankees fan although I don't think he's watched a whole game all season (I thank myself for that -- baseball is boring stuff to me). We're mainly going to see the stadium and for the atmosphere.

@swazzle Live games are a lot less boring than watching on TV. The time between innings feels much faster when there aren't commercials, and there's just more to do and see. It's a lot of fun when the Yankees are in town, since a LOT of Yankees fans come to Fenway, so the atmosphere often gets pretty competitive.

I have no idea who'll be starting for the Sox, given that we seem to have one starting pitcher left ...
