It's Tuesday

Re: It's Tuesday

  • Britt, good luck once you guys start trying.  So many people told us to be prepared for it to take a while.  We obviously started trying immediately and it clearly didn't take a while at all.  We had prepared ourselves for months of trying and we were kind of shocked when it happened right away.  Excited, but still shocked.  The moral of my story: be prepared for either situation.  :)

  • LLS & Edie- I guess fortunately for me, My doctor is going to put me on Clomid because if I'm not on BC I don't ovulate, so instead of releasing one egg, I'll be releasing two or three which will make it easier. (hopefully) but I'm prepared for anything.

  • I will be 36 exactly one month after the wedding so I kinda would like to start trying right away but I also want to be able to take some time to just be married. Ugh I hate being old.

  • sorry about the house Edie- is it your first home? because if you go the FHA route you only have to put down 3.5% and closing costs, which makes it more attainable for people to buy their first home. It's the route we're going tho we're putting down more than the 3.5% but not by much. Just a thought :)

<div>I hear you.  I'm a little bit younger (32 - will be 33 when the baby is born) but we wanted to try right away in case we had any trouble... that, and we do want 2 kids.  I wish we would've had some time to just be married, but I'm also thrilled with the outcome we ended up with.  </div>

  • Edie, sorry about the house hunt. The wait will be worth it though. It took us almost a year to find our house. It's hard to believe we're almost at the one year anniversary of when we went under contract.

Fortunately you'll still be in a buyers market and interest rates are supposed to remain low for at least 2 more years I believe. My parents helped with out DP too and it was a huge help. Otherwise we would have done the FHA loan as well. In addition to home prices being very high in my area of the country, taxes are also ridiculously high in my county. Every little bit to bring our monthly payment down helped a lot.

I"m making stuffed peppers tonight with a side of roasted brussels sprouts. Costco vegetable prices are amazing btw.

    Most likely making this recipe:

We also both want 2 kids as well. I have three siblings and he has one and we can't imagine having an only child.

  • Welp, we don't plan on buying a house OR TTC for at least 3 years. And I will be 30 at that point. We are just kinda broke right now. But we're saving :)

Morning - you all are talkative this morning. I haven't read everything yet, I'll go do that in a minute.

I'm working from home today because my daughter is sick. I hate when parents send their kids to school sick, so I figured it's best to keep her home. This is going to make for a boring day though. I'm really hoping work picks up soon, not having enough to do is horrible.

I'm super sore from the gym last night. I did a 40 minute cardio session. Today is 20 min of cardio and arms/upper back weights. Just when my arms stopped being sore, time to work them out again.

Oh - and a plus for staying home, I can catch up on Sunday's episode of Revenge :) love that show.

    ETA: Just finished reading.

    lls - congrats!

Edie - we're waiting to buy a house too. But, we both have VA (though not always the best route to go with all of the new first time homebuyer programs). Hopefully next year. I don't know that I could handle a wedding and buying a house all at once. Way too much expense coming at me. Plus, we're trying to clear the minimal debt we have and boost our credit scores a bit.

Maybe I watch too much of the show "Love it or List it" on HGTV, but I'm a little paranoid that once we have the two kids that we want, that we'll out grow our 3 bed, 1.5 bath ,1400 sq. ft. house. In some cases it seems that couple just aren't good at putting toys away and have poor storage solutions. In other cases they've legitimately outgrown their house that they bought when it was just the two of them but since starting a family it has become way too cramped.

ETA: Tiffany, we bought a house and had a wedding within 3 months of each other. It's totally doable, but will cause plenty of stress - well at least it did for me. Fortunately we had some financial help for both things so that helped significantly. But plan your finances carefully because the new house, even if mostly perfect, will have lots of new expenses you may not have planned for.

[QUOTE]Tiffany I actually need to check my credit score.  It was really low around October 2011 so I got a credit card and have been making payments on it for about a year now.

I don't have any cc's but FI does. I'm looking at doing a secure loan through the local credit union, it seems to do a good job at helping.

<div>Many houses in our price range didn't have two baths. So we were happy to have at least 1 and a half. We live in one of the most expensive housing markets in the country. I sometimes have to stop watching shows like "House Hunters" because the difference in home prices is just so vast and sometimes makes me depressed. But we love where we live and didn't want to move out of the area.</div>

  • Buzz - that's good to know. But we're paying for most of the wedding ourselves, cash, so it makes limited money for the house unless we use savings, which I don't want to do. Our 2 bed/1 ba apartment is definitely small for the 3 of us, but hopefully that's motivation to get on the house bandwagon early next year.

Oh and then there's FI's car obsession...and the desire for a new one. ugh.

  • Tiffany, we got married on 11/2, got home from our HM on 11/11, and closed on 11/15.  It really wasn't that bad as far as logistics were concerned.

I'm hoping this house will be one we can stay in for many years.  We definitely have room to grow in it.  I'm just sick of moving.  In the 6 years that H and I have been together, we moved 4 times.  I'm beyond thrilled to finally have a house to call our own.

Good luck to those of you who mentioned house hunting in the near future!

  • Thank goodness H makes enough by himself to get approved for the loan- My father used my SSN and ruined my credit, which I'm still working on disputing, it's crazy some of the accounts I was only 16 when they were opened and they're still trying to hold me accountable. :(

  • Oh Britt -that is HORRIBLE. Credit stuff is so frusterating, it seems like the bad can easily outweigh the good, no matter what.

    How's everyones afternoon going?

  • Going good! I just had a salad that I made at the A&P (local grocery store) salad bar. It was delicious and cheap! Tomorrow I look forward to a lunch of leftovers from tonight's dinner.

  • haha Edie- me too! this is my first full week back at work and I'm dragging, it doesn't help I was up WAY past my bed time, I didn't get to bed til like midnight. H and I had a long discussion about stuff. :) However now I'm ready for bed.

  • Ugh, Britt, that sucks about your father and your SSN.  I'm sorry you have to deal with his bad decision making there.

This afternoon is okay so far.  One of my coworkers accepted a new job and she's leaving at the end of the week, so she and I went to lunch.  It was nice to get out and chat a bit with her.

  • Set an alarm on your phone that tells you it's time for bed. and follow it :) I've done that to H before, I'm always asleep by 8:30-9 and I've made him set an alarm for 11:30 so he doesn't stay up super late or he would. Before we moved in together he'd play WOW until 1 or 2am and get up at 6 for work- I couldn't do it!
    image
  • ah, that makes sense.

I really want to go rollerblading tonight- however I'm so sleepy I don't know if thats going to happen.

I normally go to bed at 11, but stayed up till almost midnight last night. And now it feels like the day is dragging. H goes to bed around 1-2 and wakes up only a half hour after me. I don't know how he does it.

I forgot my cell phone at home today, which is annoying because I need to make some doctors appointments and I really don't want to do it from my work phone.

Is anyone else really reserved about making personal calls from their work phone/office/cubical? A coworker who sits in front of me, who is older, seems to have no issue with it. But it drives me crazy. I do not want or need to here about his personal life. Disclaimer, I do not like this coworker.

ETA: My biggest problem with it is when the phone calls are non essential. If you occasionally have to make a call from your work phone, then ok. I still refrain from it when I can, and make the call on my cell phone while I am out of the office. But talking for a half hour complaining about people on your condo board isn't necessary.

  • 11:00 is my absolute latest bed time.  I usually go to bed around 10:00 unless there's a show on.  I can't function without sleep.  (Sidenote: lack of sleep with a newborn should be interesting...)

Buzz, I'm with you on that.  I don't make any personal calls at work.  If someone does happen to call my cell or if I need to make a call, I step outside.  I have my own office, but the walls here are thin and I don't want everyone knowing my business.

One of my coworkers constantly takes and makes personal calls (mostly just his wife and kids) and he doesn't seem to have a care in the world about who hears.

  • Buzz - At my old job a coworker was going through a divorce, and the whole thing was pretty WT. She would fight with him, the social worker, the lawyers, all in her open cubicle and then come over to discuss it assuming that we had listened to the whole thing. It was so annoying and super unprofessional.

Regarding bedtime - I'm pretty good at being in bed by 9:30, asleep by 10. I have only had a tv in my bedroom 2 years in college, and I love not having a tv in the bedroom. The bed is for 2 things: sleep, and uhhhhh yaknow.
