Meh, I was watching a red carpet and a presidential press conference the other day.   There are HUNDREDS of photographers around with HUGH BIG-ASS flashes.  They all seem to get a decent shot of whoever they are trying to capture.   I don't doubt there might be a few "ruined" ones, but isn't that why they take thousands of pictures?

Even if you are the only photographer around and no other guests to step into the shot doesn't mean they will still get the perfect shot.  No, they take hundreds of shots in order to capture the right one..
    All this ^^^
AND that red dot of death the amazing (sarcasm) Carey Ann complains about -- that's usually the DJ's lighting!! Not your guests's point and shoot, duh. So better cancel the DJ and band bc their light setup is going "ruin" your precious photos.

  • Photographers who recommend unplugged wedding are lazy and unprofessional. It is their job to work around the guests. If someone is in the way, politely ask them to step aside. I'm tried of this article getting circulated saying how great of an idea it is. Many professional photographers will say that sure, it'd make their lives easier, but it doesn't make their job impossible.

These ruined photos would make me want to have friends and family members with manners. Which I do. So my wedding photos turned out lovely - both the professional ones and those that my friends and family took during the ceremony and reception. ETA - the photos in my signature are all from friends and family

  • However, regarding the father of the kid who wasn't even a guest yelling at the photographer -

We got married at a state park.  Nearly all of the non-wedding guests at the park were incredibly respectful of our wedding.  They tried to stay out of the way and walked around the ceremony with a wide berth so as not to get in the pictures.  We even got a nice round of applause and cheers from everyone at the family reunion that we walked past to get to the reception area.

We did have some random people walking by announce they were going to photobomb some of our post-ceremony photos.  And this was when I had my one bridezilla moment.  It was 90+ degrees out.  I wanted to get our outside photos done quickly because I was getting miserably hot in three layers of dress, pluss undergarments. I screamed "No! Go away!" at them at the top of my lungs.  I'm really glad they listened, because I was so annoyed it would not have turned out well if they tried to jump in the picture.  Had they not left, despite my desire to smack them, I'm sure my photographer would have worked around it and failing that we would have called the DOC, who is park staff, to step in.  But having an unplugged wedding would have done nothing to stop them from being idiots.

  • I just can't with the fact that the one guest decided to go up and take pictures with the bride and groom during their first dance!!

I am going to ditto PPs. The issue is shitty guests with poor manners, not the fact the the wedding was "plugged in".

Pretty sure the red dot of death on cameras only reaches a few feet. Maybe @photokitty‌ can confirm.

In which case that guests' photos are probably just as good if not better than Corey Ann's. That guest probably didn't sit back and cry while all their opportunities to get great shots passed by.

    misshart00 you are correct.
APDSS22 I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean strobe? As in professional flash? Most photogs turn off the red light on those. Or do you mean lens? A pro lens can't detect a red light that does not hit the object. If it doesn't illuminate the person/object no matter how good the lens, it will not be visible in the shot.

I am confidant the red light she is claiming is the fault of a guest is in fact the DJ's lighting. Not to mention any photog worth their salt could photoshop that out if it was truly a photo that made you want to cry - BUT the example she uses is not a unique or amazing photo and I'm certain she has 50, or more, just like it since wit's just a candid of the mom son dance.

I find it SHOCKING that if she is an award winning photographer she has not listed any on said awards on her website  - not in the long about me section or the prize page. Hmmmmm, I'd certainly list my award if I was hocking myself as an allegedly award winning wedding photog...but that's just me. Makes me wonder what these "awards" are...second prize at the county fair perhaps???
Well she's been featured on Style Me Pretty, so that counts, right?! :P

I was being ridiculous.  You could attach a red dot professional rifle scope to a camera that would be strong enough to dot whatever you're trying to capture.
  • I read this and my first thought was "OMG, if I can't trust you to get decent shots you suck as a photog.  No excuses.  Not all shots are going to be good ones, that's why you take hundreds of shots right?  Get over yourself."

This article sounded so whiny.  It's your job!  Just do it!

There's a local DJ in my area, Aaron Topfer, that my FSIL used, he had a no bad reviews policy in his contract, and his feature on TK's vendor section says he's won awards.

When the only reviews you can get from people is "good" ones from those who don't know better, you don't deserve the award. Corey Ann is probably in the same boat.

  • UGH someone just shared this exact article on my Facebook! The person who they shared it from posted the link with the following status: "We're paying plentyyyy for better pictures than you'll take on your iphone. You've been warned. I'll slap your phone right outta your hand."

So I replied: This photographer sucks, and this blog is misleading. These cannot be the only photos on her reel; this is the opposite of an athlete's highlight reel. These are the shittiest examples she could find to support her opinion. Here's a hint: stop trying to control how your guests behave or don't invite guests to your wedding. Bet if someone pulls out a phone to take a pic, you wouldn't even notice, much less risk a property damage suit by actually smacking it out of their hand. (No I don't know the original person who posted that disgusting commentary)

Then naturally I HAD to share it with my timeline. My commentary? Basically that you cannot control grown adults and not to invite any if you want the entire day to run EXACTLY to your specifications. Also that if someone ever attempted to smack my phone out of my hand, I'd smack the control-freak out of them starting at their face.
Yep. Bride or not, I'd slap her fucking tiara off her head if she lunged at me.

  • I got yelled at for being rude and offensive and I was scolded for my inappropriate actions re: calling out a total stranger on the internet. Then they blocked me before I could respond that the internet is a public place and you shouldn't allow your facebook friends to share your posts with everyone they know if you don't want to be open to public scrutiny. Boo.
  • I would not hire Corey Ann. She's a whiner. Also, I've been drinking and if I wouldn't hire her duck I sure as heck wouldn't hire her sober.

I wouldn't hire her duck either.  But I also don't trust ducks to take good photos.  :P

I dunno, that Aflack duck seems pretty confident for not having opposable thumbs...

Wait, your FB friend blocked you for telling it like it is and calling out some rando friend of your friend?

    Fuck that noise.

Wow, what a gracious bride. I'm sure she'll be so welcoming and inviting to her guests. I also love to attend events where I am "warned" and threatened with physical violence.
