  • lolo I love it! Fingers are crossed for you!

  • My employees at work threw me a surprise shower yesterday! It was very sweet of them to do that and I'm very thankful. And FI and I will be getting our marriage license Wednesday morning AND he doesn't have class Wednesday nigt so I get more FI quality time!

Now I just have to figure out how to handle the thank you cards at work. The employees in my divsion all went in together and purchased two large items for me. I know the employees in my department planned everything, so I'm planning on writing individual thank you notes to each of them. Then, should I just write a general thank you note to each other department that contributed?
  • Oh it's adorable, lolo! I love it. So beautiful. Fingers crossed it is yours!

  • Busy, busy Monday! FI and I were up early today and have been running wedding errands all day. Mondays are our only days off until the wedding, so we had a bunch to do today. First we went to the county clerk's office and got our marriage license (yay!). Thanks to the state of Virginia for making it easy peasy :) Then we went to the bank, then drove 30 minutes to the church where we're getting married and met with their coordinator, then our ceremony musician. I'm SO excited about our ceremony music! He is a phenomenal musician and will be playing the organ. Then we went to the jeweler and got my ring cleaned, then to our reception venue and talked with their new venue coordinator. Thank goodness we did, since the old coordinator who recently quit didn't write anything down! Finally we payed the mortgage and came home. Now I'm ready for a nap! It feels SO good to cross so many things off of our to do list today!!
  • I don't have anything exciting going on this week. DH started his new job last week, after 7 months of unemployment. He is doing training right now so his hours are weird. We may need to buy a second car, depending on if his final schedule is bus friendly. We are sharing my car right now, which really sucks because he has 3 odd-hour shifts this week. The bus isn't running when he needs to be at work and we can't "carpool" because our hours don't match up. I'm stuck taking the bus 3 days this week. The bus takes 1.5-2 hours EACH WAY and I can't read on the bus so it's just a huge waste of time.

That sucks! Have you tried audiobooks or webcasts? I LOVE NPR's app. We listen to This American Life and Radio Lab on long drives. Fresh Air is also fantastic. What is best is that a lot of the shows are an hour long, so you can just put it on and enjoy without having to constantly find something new to listen to. Oh, and it is free.

  • You guys, I'm obsessing over this house. I'm Google mapping how far it is from the nearest Kroger and what pizza places are nearby and checking out the neighbors' houses on Street View. I wanted to build, but this is such a great price in a great area that doesn't have land available to build anyway. Mature trees, great schools, easy commute to just about anywhere, AND IT HAS A HOT TUB.
    So exciting!

I'm also jealous that you're in a city with Kroger. I miss them. I loved them.

I just want to curl up and take a nap. Fortunately, I have a great bottle of wine and some leftover cake from my shower waiting for me at home!

We're Kroger Fuel Points junkies. FI was so excited the other day - discovered it was 4x Fuel Points on gift cards so he bought a bunch to Amazon, the movies, and other places we shop anyway. Miles on his credit card + discount on gas = FI is a happy man. Shopping = Lolo is a happy lady!

Thanks for the tip! I just upgraded my phone so this is an option now! DH just got his schedule for next week and it works with my schedule :)

  • Gahhhhhh @lolo883- your stupid ahhh-mazing house pic is making me want to buy a stupid house in Michigan now.... Just when we finally decided to stay put in Chicago! I hate you just a little bit.

This is basically what our money will get us in Chicago/Evanston. Sad face.

  • I just got home from my parents house. My mom just gave me half the deposit amount for the venue.

She had been really oddly negative nancy-ing everything for a while but she just turned her whole attitude around a couple weeks ago, and I wasn't expecting this at all. She makes me crazy sometimes, but I love her and I appreciate her support. This was so nice of her.

  • I'm declaring Tuesday as the start of my new week. Today kind-of sucked. Although I did manage to get DH to leave work to take me out for a hamburger at the awesome local place down the road. I also got a nap in.

Well, Today and Tomorrow I'm making up hours at work since I have to take FI to his eye surgery on Wednesday. The surgery is at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, but he can't eat or drink starting at 12:00am that morning. I'm wondering how he's going to go without food for 12 hours.

I'm getting my new Galaxy S5 on Saturday. YAAAAY. My S3 has randomly had problems charging and I tried everything! Thankfully it's upgrade time.

School Starts a week from today, so I'm eyeing textbook prices and hoping that my Financial Aid refund comes before the end of the week so that I can purchase all my stuff without taking it out of my paycheck. We'll see how that goes.

FI is at an Open Mic tonight and will probably be at one tomorrow night, he hasn't had this eye surgery since he was 7. So he doesn't know how bad the after pain will be or how long it will be before he can go back to doing comedy at the Open Mics, which is why he's trying to do as much as he can before Wednesday.

Not much wedding stuff to do right now. We'll be putting a deposit down on the Reception venue in September. And I believe I've designed the invitations we're making, but for right now I'm just folding paper cranes, and trying to find the motivation to start a work out routine.

@lolo883 - that house is Freaking Gorgeous!!!!!

  • Well the house was a bust. :( It was nice enough, but the neighborhood was kind of rundown and unkempt. Seemed like one of those neighborhoods that used to have money but it all died or moved away, KWIM? Not worth moving up our timeline for, but it's good to know generally what we can get for our money.

I'm sorry.  but it's always good to look.

We went a few weeks ago to look at a house.  Same type of thing, I was turned off by the neighborhood.  Plus our furniture would not fit.   Yeah, yeah I know you can buy different furniture but having a king size bed is a must-have, not a wish list (not possible in any of the bedrooms.   Our sofa amazing and huge.  Right now it's a tight fit and we are okay with that.   Not at all, too small.

  • SO psyched!  DH & I are going with a few friends to a quote-along tonight of GOONIES!  This theater does fun special events.  Before the movie, they're even holding a Truffle Shuffle contest!

  • It's been a much better Tuesday then Monday.

  • Its our one month anniversary of being husband and wife!! And we get to see our wedding pictures this evening!

    SO excited!

    On the opposite spectrum,
DHs old roommate was texting me, how does it feel to be married? I replied really no different than before, just calling each other husband and wife. He replied, well that's what you get for moving in together beforehand.

BITCH SAY WHAT? I WILL KILL YOU

What a craptastic thing to say! Was he married to your husband when they lived together? No. Big damn difference between married and not married, even if it all feels the same to you right now.

  • Love that GIF. I'm kinda glad we feel the same as before, and not "omg I didn't know he lives like this, he has to have the fan on high at night, I can't live like this!"

We are happy and comfortable together- and enjoying the slight differences we have noticed, like great sex and feeling no shame being all lovey dovey in front of the family. :) and I enjoy signing my new name when I can!

  • We've looked at more than a dozen houses, and we recently put in offers on two houses that didn't work out. We made a counter-counter offer on another one today. Waiting is horrible. Waiting when I'm teaching and can't obsessively check my phone and answer when DH texts/calls is TORTURE!

I'm second-week-of-school exhausted, so it's a laid back night on the couch for me...

Good luck. waiting is the worse.

We are not going to seriously look until the first of the year.  however, that does not stop me from looking at the MLS everyday.

DH checks the new listings obsessively, even though he has alerts set. I'm like, "Seeing as it's Sunday evening, and you checked it this morning, I really don't think there's anything new on there..."
