Re: I am speechless.....and that takes a lot

  • That chica has some balls.

    But wait...you DID RSVP...

Crap.  I wonder what sh!t job you both have been assigned.  Slinging dishes maybe?  I'd check before actually going to this wedding.  At the same time, I want you to go and report back on the total cluster that this wedding might be.
  • I wonder how differently it would have turned out if she had asked your daughter to babysit!!! Many teens love the idea of babysitting and would gladly do it (and get paid, obviously). I know when I was a teen I always felt so important when I was asked to babysit.

This is why being polite and always asking permission is so important, it's so much easier to get what you want.

UPDATE - first I have to say I love my DH. Groom called him last night.
Groom: did you know your wife said blah, blah blah to FI
DH: yes, I was surprised your FI would expect our DD to miss out on such an exciting event. Such a nice bonding moment for her and her grandmother.

LadyGaga if they asked my DD would have offered to bring a friend and keep the kids entertained all night with just some cake as payment.

I am trying to find someone on FB with her and will report back.

FYI, you and your husband are my new best friends.

  • OMG best reply EVER! What a bridezilla! I wonder who she'll pawn off all the kids to now...
  • Speshul snowflake much?

  • You and your FI's responses make me so happy. Go get a drink and toast to yourselves 'cause you're so awesome.

  • Awesome response. That'll make them feel awkward real fast!

But, you were joking.. right? About your 12 year old getting a Brazilian?

  • This is one of the funniest things I've read in a while. Well done, @debbeau

I love the snark, but sometimes people like that have to be told directly that they are out of line.

Something like: you guys were rude for inviting my daughter as a guest and then expecting her to babysit. If you wanted her to babysit you should have asked us, not assumed. It's also none of your business what plans my daughter has, she is not coming to your wedding the discussion is closed.

Something tells me the sarcasm was thick enough that it was implied.

Let's say you had relented; who wants to place bets that the bride said childcare would be provided, other guests assumed it was a trained professional, and they would have lost their shit when they found out it was a lone twelve year-old?

I would hope so, but why are they being obtuse and questioning the OPs husband now.

It seems more of a "your wife was being snarky/rude/mean to my FI". Like the OP was the one in the wrong. No man, you and your FI were the rude ones first.

Sugargirl no she isn't getting a Brazilian. I don't think she even knows what the term means. She was planning a toe nail painting, chocolate eating, PG13 movie watching evening at her friends house. Sounds like more fun to me anyway.
That is my perfect night.  Apparently I'm 12.
    I am also 12! (:

This wedding is liable to be an etiquette shitstorm, so you must attend and report back to us with all of the details.

I think it would be worse than that! Bets on kids were invited to the wedding and then parents show up and get told their kids are being watched in another room

I told her my daughter has plans. I don't know this girl but that would be end of convo with most people. She said what was she doing that was so important. I told her DD was getting her first Brazilian.. Her grandmother was taking her. She was real quiet then said ok and hung up. I am sure H is going to hear about it from the groom.
I do not know you, but I like you. I deem this an excellent response.

Me too. My MOH and I do this every couple of weeks.
  • This whole thing is fantastic.
  • Shut up. I'm loving this entire thing right now.
