Re: NWR: Trader Joe's Treats

  • Crud...You ladies are not helping me out at all.  Our closest TJ's is 30 minutes away but with all of this talk about their delicious treats now I'm craving their Pumpkin Pancake mix for breakfast this weekend!

@Cupcait927 - I used to live near a Wegmans I miss it dearly...The closest one is now 2 hours away.  Boo Hiss.

  • @ShellD13 I should send you wegmans care packages! I've already told FI that we can't move down south until there are more Wegmans locations. I've grown up with it and couldn't imagine shopping anywhere else!

I've heard that people are serious about Publix as north easters are about Wegmans. I've only been to a Publix once, down in Florida, so I didn't the experience. It's sad when you don't have that familiarity any longer.

Tell me why everyone loves Wegmans. I have never been there but it seems just like a normal grocery store or a lower cost Whole Foods.
  • @arrippa - For me it was just the sheer variety of items that Wegmans carried. They had items on the shelves that I'd fallen in love with on my trip to South Africa that I thought I'd only be able to order online. And the prices were pretty reasonable in my opinion given all of the convenience factors they featured. They had a HUGE carryout/prepared food section that was delicious and easy for those times when you want something that tastes good without having to do any dishes meals. The staff at the one I shopped at was amazingly friendly too - I delayed getting shopping for TDay too long one year and everyone was having shortages on fresh turkeys. The butcher told me when the next truck was coming in and asked me how many (what sizes) I was looking for and he put two aside for me when the truck did come in. He had no way of knowing I was absolutely coming back for them - could have sold them to customers on the spot. And since I was responsible for making the turkey for my family's dinner and there were 35 of us - he was a lifesaver!

All of this. I've grown up with Wegmans almost my entire life and I worked at a few of them for close to 6 years. The shopping experience is amazing, the products that they carry are endless and the people who work there genuinely LOVE their jobs so they're more willing to go the extra mile for their customers. One of my biggest loves for Wegmans is the fact that they don't do sales weekly. When they put something on sale, generally it's on sale for 2-3 months at a time (consistent low pricing is their term for it). Their smartphone app is awesome too - i have my club card on my phone, I can create my shopping lists, find a recipe, and refill my prescriptions. And I may or may not have fallen in love with their buffalo blue cheese chips. And $6 meals are the best.
  • I've never been to a Wegmans, but I absolutely get the love for a grocery store. Granted, I live in Manhattan, so grocery stores are just not going to be the same as they are everywhere else. But when I go to Publix, it feels so grand. So clean. The aisles are super wide, they carry everything you could ever want, they always have stuff BOGO.

    I love Publix.
