Wedding Woes

Weekend trip

We left Friday at 10:30 and spent the night near Cleveland.  This left us with only a 2 hour drive to get to Pittsburgh the next day.

We went straight to the zoo.  I was really not wanting to go to the zoo (I feel guilty doing a fun kid thing without the kids) but I'm so glad we did.  It's a great zoo.  I'm glad DH talked me into going.

Then we found our hotel.  They let us check in 3.5 hours early so we went up and showered.  The room was very nice, smaller than we expected, but it was nice and in a perfect location.

We headed out to explore the downtown.  We just walked around for a few hours and took pictures.

We headed to the ball park around 5:00.  DH caught a ball during batting practice.  Our seats were amazing.  We were in left field, second row.  Both Cubs' home runs landed within 4 rows of us.  The first home run hit a woman on her wrist as she was covering her face.  Son found us on tv a couple times.

After the game (Cubs win!!!) we walked to the Duquesne Incline.  DH is not cool with heights but he did it.  He told me he was glad I encouraged (made) him.  The view from the top overlooks the city, and at night it was really pretty.

We got back to our hotel past midnight, which is pretty wild and crazy for us.  We were on the road by 8am and got home 10 hours later.

It was so much fun and we ate a lot of great food.  It was so nice to get away for the weekend and celebrate our anniversary without the kids.

Side note - we spent $58.30 on tolls.  Thanks, OH and IN.

Re: Weekend trip

  • Did you make it to Primanti Bros?
  • YAY for a fun trip.  DH did the incline the last time he was in PGH for work.

Fun fact; as a kid, I lost a shoe on the incline.  I don't remember how, but I do remember being downtown Pittsburg with one shoe.
  • We did!  I got a sandwich at the ball park!  Delicious.

Thanks for all the recommendations, too.

Ha!  I'd love to know how you managed that.
  • I hate tolls too, but every time we travel on a toll road, it's so nice and smooth and clean.  Missouri really does have some of the worst roads in the nation (we make every freaking "this place is crappy list" lately), though the state is slowly trying to turn that around with new construction.
  • There was also slight drama at the game.  A guy decided it was a good idea to come in the exit of the women's bathroom and race into a stall as a woman was walking toward it.  He got lots of yelling and boos and "I have my 6 year old daughter in here!"

When I got out of the bathroom, the guy's wife was yelling at him and security was walking with him.  I don't know if he got kicked out or what.

Oh yes.  Also, everyone moved at a good pace and in place of rest areas, there were service areas every 20-50 miles.  It was nice to stop and pee at a place that was maintained and had a lot of business, without having to get off the interstate at all.

Maybe he really had to poop? I thought PNC had trough urinals like Heinz Field.

Living on the NC/SC border, it is so obvious when you cross from one to the other.  NC keeps their roads (at least the ones around here) in pretty decent shape.  SC, not so much.
  • we consider them unamerican here.  But we're also against all forms of public transportation, emissions and safety testing, and, yet, somehow, believe in bottle deposits.
