  • So sorry to hear about this :( I know of a really great custom jeweler (FI and I got our rings through him). In fact he custom made my E-ring from FI's description and a few pictures so I'm sure he could replicate yours with pictures. Only thing is that he is in Arizona so that may take too long for you. Anyway, PM me if you're interested.

  • I'm SO sorry.  (HUUUUGGGGGGS)

This is absolutely horrible.  At least Jared is being reasonable.  I definitely think you should get the diamond back.

I will have to keep all of this in mind.  FI had my ring custom made in AZ at a small family owned place.  We live in Chicago now, and now I know to just send it to AZ if anything ever happens.

  • That is absolutely horrible!  I feel so bad for you. I'm glad that you seem to be working with some helpful people now, and it sounds like they are working to fix the situation as much as they can, but it still can't ever fix the stress & heartache of them ruining your e-ring.  And a replacement will still always be a replacement. I do like the idea of utilizing the diamonds from the original ring, because that at least carries something into the new one, so it's still not entirely new.  And it is very sweet that FI plans to re-propose to you with the new ring.

I really hope everything works out for you. Just remember to breathe.  Sometimes things happen that are out of your control and you have to roll with the punches.  It just sucks when there are that many punches to dodge all at once.

  • I'm sorry to hear that.  I can only offer an internet hug from here.

    Wait, what?

You don't know if you are getting your original stone back?!

I'll come and help you get it back. . .

  • So I just talked to the store and since they are giving me a new ring for the value of my old ring plus additional costs, they won't give me my original ring back. It makes sense to me, but at the same time doesn't.

So it is either take a new ring and lose my original, or have a broken ring and no money to fix it. It sucks, but hopefully I will be able to find a ring that matches my wedding band.

Part of me understands this, why should you get two rings out of the deal? (Of course one is damaged, but the materials are valuable). But the damage isn't your fault and that is YOUR ring. Grrr...
I would ask to see rings where you can at least reuse the undamaged stone(s).

No. That is unacceptable. They broke your setting, so they owe you a new setting. They need to put your diamond into a setting of your choosing and only charge you the price of that setting, and then if there's credit leftover, let you spend it on what-the-fuck-ever else you choose.
    This!

Don't agree to anything they are suggesting.

They should NOT get to keep your stone(s).  They broke the setting. .. that is what the need to replace for free.  They do not get to keep the stone(s) that actually belong to you. . . that's theft.

I understand not letting you have both, the old & new ring.  But you should be able to have them use the old stone and put it in a new setting of your choice.  They would probably have to deduct the re-used stone value from the credit. But, if they reuse the stone, you should be able to do credit based on just setting vs. setting, subtracting the value of main diamond you plan to reuse. Or if you find a ring with a comparable diamond (size and grade), maybe they can just switch the diamond out to use the old one?

Yeah I agree with what you all are saying. I plan on going in and see what settings I like and then I am going to tell them that I want my original diamonds in the new ring. If they are unwilling to do this I am going to leave and go visit my attorney and see if I have a leg to stand on here.

ETA: If this is the case, I will take my wedding band back and just use that at the wedding and go E-Ring less for awhile.

  • I'm so heartbroken for you.  At least you have a super sweet FI to help you through this.  Much love, xx.

  • Will they evaluate the cost of the diamond vs the setting, and give you a lower amount to cover just the setting? Idk if that's better though.

I'd demand to reuse the diamond in another setting. Unless you think you can get a better diamond.
