Halloween plans

Do you dress up for Halloween and if so, what are you going to be? I LOVE Halloween parties and costumes, and we host a party every year. This year it's going to have a "Time Warp" theme - we're just encouraging costumes from some time in the past. DH's buddy wanted it to be a 90's theme, but we didn't want to make it too hard to stick to. (Obviously people can wear whatever they want, but I think the theme is fun, and it gives us good reason to play lots of RHPS music AND throw in random disco and swing and 80's and whatever else that might otherwise be a bit out of place at a Halloween party.)

ANYWAY, I decided on my costume today and I'm pretty stoked! I'm going to be Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus. I got fabric with stars and planets all over it to make my dress (no, this won't be the "slutty" version of Ms. Frizzle), and my lil dog already has a dinosaur costume that looks enough like a lizard that he can be Liz. DH didn't like any of the couple's ideas I gave him so he's on his own.

What are your plans?!

Re: Halloween plans

  • @lolo883 there better be pictures!

I honestly can't recall the last time I've had occasion to dress up for Halloween. College I guess? Last year FI and I bundled up and watched Carrie at the drive-in on Halloween. It was actually pretty fun so we might do it again this year.

  • I watched that show growing up but haven't seen it in 20 years so I'd honestly look at you like a deer in headlights clueless lol.

We don't do Halloween, dh is a party pooper.

  • Fun! I don't think we'll do much more than buy a shit ton of candy to pass out to the trick-or-treaters…and dress up Gus…as a woolly mammoth.

  • That is such a fun costume idea!

SO and I aren't really into dressing up on Halloween. We are super into carving pumpkins though, it's a multi-day event where we carve fairly elaborate (although his are always better than mine) pumpkins while watching Halloween movies. We also love going to corn mazes. On Halloween we usually just order pizza and watch movies while handing out candy to the neighborhood kids.

  • Sometimes we go to our favorite bar, but it will be just me this year, so I will most likely hide out unless a bunch of people from our circle are going. I was so excited to hand out candy our first year in our house here, and then I was over it within 30 minutes b/c I got tired of getting up every few minutes.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • We haven't dressed up for the past couple of years but I think we will this year.  We're going to a benefit concert for the local historic cemetery!  Should be really fun and creepy.

I'm undecided on our costumes, though.  We're usually something either nerdy or based on current events.  I think I've told the story of how we tried to dress up as Marshall and Lily and Fi sort of backed out at the last minute, so I just looked like a lonely Vikings fan in a Columbia Law sweatshirt.

So.... we need couples costume ideas!

  • @JCbride2015‌ you should be a hanging chad and slutty pumpkin. :)

  • We were supposed to be Princess Buttercup and Westley but DH changed his mind. He also vetoed zombie Barbie and Ken, and being a pirate when I was a parrot two years ago. (BFF was a bird with me instead.) He briefly considered being contestants on Legends of the Hidden Temple, Double Dare or American Gladiators characters. BFF wanted us to be OITNB characters and have the Hs be guards but I didn't want to turn down requests to make out all night.

  • I have a Legends of the Hidden Temple shirt somewhere from an old college event.  That would be super fun.

  • Oh or you could embrace the Jersey and be pregnant Snooki! (I only know she had a baby cuz of the Facebook "trending" box, I swear.)

  • We have 3 parties to go to. Last year we went as Cosmo and Wanda from the Fairly Odd Parents. This year we're going as Dexter and Dee Dee from Dexter's Lab. SO EXCITED!

We actually live around the corner from the Snooki house in JC.  That would be a pretty funny costume!  But I don't watch the show enough to know any jokes or have any idea what to talk about if someone tries to chat about my costume.  :-/

There's got to be a Jersey stereotype in here that we can work with, though.  Mob boss and trophy wife?

Ooh that could be fun! And you get to wear something glamorous. Better than Chris Christie and a bridge!

Oh my gaaaaaaaaaaaaad! I love it.

I don't think we have any Halloween plans, other than handing out candy. I may dress up for work, but I don't have any great ideas yet. I may just go as Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face because it's an easy costume.

My dream costume is Queen Elizabeth I, but that's basically the most expensive costume ever so it's going to remain a dream.

  • So far I've dressed up just about every year for the last few - working with kids DEFINITELY had its benefits, haha. I was a cait sith (I don't know where I originally got that name, but I thought it was cute because I was going by Cait at that point) a three years ago, and then two years ago I was just a plain old black cat. With a pink rhinestone collar. Last year I was too damn tired to dress up, though... it made me sad.

I got permission from Bossman to dress up this year (I think it being on Friday helped) and I think I'll be a witch.

FI and I didn't do anything last year, and we probably won't this year either, because he works nights. I'll pass out candy from a chair out front in my witch costume with spooky music playing out of my computer. I'm excited.

  • I'm beyond bummed that nobody trick or treats in our neighborhood. We've had NOBODY in past years. No damn body. Lights on and everything.

  • My condo complex has a Halloween party for the kids, but we don't go because we don't have kids. I haven't heard of any Halloween parties yet, but my friends are all last-minute planners so something will probably come up soon. If we end up going to a Halloween party we will go as Sheldon and Amy from The Big Bang Theory. If there's no party we will just carve pumpkins and eat so. many. mini. chocolate. bars.

    Anniversary
  • I'm dressing up for work, not sure what yet. Our department hasn't decided. Then I will probably switch into a costume that is a little more risque and go to my groups annual Halloween party. I think FI would look hot as a Pharaoh, so maybe I would just be his queen for the night ;)

  • I'll be Mrs. Claus as well as the a Virgin Mary on Halloween... The theatre I work at opens our Christmas show on the 30th, so on Halloween we'll be in performances. 9 shows a week until New Years Eve. Woof.
  • KNOTTIE PARTY!!!!!

    image   image   image

  • We're going to see one of our favourite DJs (appropriately named Pumpkin) at a local bar.

I bought a toddler unicorn onesie to wear. It'll be funny and extremely unsexy. Fiance is probably going to be David Bowie as Jareth the Goblin King in Labyrinth on my request (which will not be unsexy, haha.)

  • We live in the woods, so we get no trick-or-treaters. It makes me VERY sad. When I was growing up, we got TONS of trick-or-treaters, and there were tons of places to go trick-or-treating.

I haven't really enjoyed halloween since we moved up here, the areas we've lived in haven't really been conducive to good halloweening.

  • I'm going to help my mom with her haunted house and then go to my friend's party. We are big on Halloween in my group. So far there is only 1 party but chances are I'll go to a few different ones through out the month. I'm going as the Other Mother from Coraline and dh has just informed me that he is going as Lestat from The Vampire Chronicles. We don't do couples costumes.
  • This is our first Halloween in Chicago. We have no idea what we're doing. I think we're going to see if the old theatre up the street from us is doing any scary movie showings. If not then we'll probably watch movies at home and see if any kids stop by.

This is all dependent on the idea that we haven't been invited to any Halloween parties yet and our place is to small to host our own. If we get an invite then we'll go. Which will require me to unearth my dark fairy wings, my high heel and my tutu.

  • I got invited to a halloween party some friends are throwing, which should be fun. Although that does kinda mean I have to figure out a costume. I really would love to track down a cool batgirl costume based off the one in batman the animated series, but then I'll just get quizzed on batman trivia that I won't know because there is just so much to know and so many different plots going on in the comic book universe that of course I don't have them all memorized. I love batman, I watch the series, I watch lots of justice league stuff, I watch whatever movies I get my hands on, I've read some comics, but I just know I'm going to immediately get written off as a "fake geek" for being a girl that is interested in comics and couldn't say off the top of her head what the joker said in panel five of issue 198. Pisses me off, because really, even if I never saw anything batman related and just saw the costume, thought it was cool, and became interested in the character that way, so what. Let me like a thing. Who named you gatekeeper of the fucking fandom

Oh, who cares?  Do all the 3-year olds dressed as spiderman fully understand his history?  Seriously just wear the costume (I'm willing to post pics of my most awesome batgirl get up EVA if it makes you feel better), and fuck the people who are judging you for it.

Do you have a particular friend in mind that would be this way?  I am confident nobody in my friend group would ever question a costume, so if you do have friends like that, maybe it's time to cut them out!

  • @jcbride2015 Hopefully this doesn't offend you but in college, my friend pinned garbage all over himself (banana peels, tissues, pizza box, etc) and wore a NJ license plate around his neck. He said he was NJ Trash, I would have just gone with "landfill" but it was pretty hilarious to us up here in MA.
