Re: hump day chat

  • I can't believe it's October! I'm exhausted, I had the dentist on Monday after work. I got my mouthguard to sleep with at night since I grind my teeth... it's so awkward to sleep with I hope I adjust to it soon.

H & I just got invited to a friend's Halloween party.  I don't know what to wear for it.  I'm trying to come up with costume ideas and so far I got nothing...

  • I feel this week is going by fast and that I have a limited amount of time to get OODLES of stuff done!

    WR
Yesterday - I received my bridesmaid gifts, they are awesome and amazing and I love them (I hope the girls love them too).  I got my dress ready to ship - it's boxed and ready to go.  I got the 'Information Guide' ready so my guests know where to park on our wedding day and just some other basic info.

Today - I stopped off at the grocery store before work, I picked up a GC for my groom as part of his gift and 2 cards. We decided we didn't want to bring our gifts to each other with us, so we'll give them the day before we leave; but I wanted him to have a card the day of.  He had mentioned how silly Halloween cards are because it's not a family holiday, so I got him a 'Love You' Halloween card as a joke, I hope he gets it!  (Now if I can only remember to get him one EVERY year from now on.)  I will ship out my dress at lunch (which is both scary and exciting).  Tonight I need to do some laundry and cleaning.  FI is working late the rest of the week.

Oh, and I emailed my dad telling him that I wish they would come and I'd rather have them there and I don't want to hear that they couldn't go because they had to watch my animals; but I asked if they're NOT going if they could watch my dogs (and pointed out they already have other arrangements if for some reason they changed their mind and decide to come or they feel they cannot watch them).  I just feel bad for my one dog with his skin thing going on, that I'd rather him not have to be kenneled if my parents aren't going.

Oh - my update on my pup; the vet does not want to give him steroids due to his age and he has a slight heart murmur and there's a risk.  So she wants me to take him to a specialist.  He won't be able to get in until after the wedding.  I'm just wondering what he's allergic to - I'm thinking maybe ragweed or his food.  I bought him a different kind of food to try, should be here on Thurs or Friday (I got him Wellness Simple which is supposed to be easy to digest and good for allergies).  After we meet with the allergist, I will probably buy him these things called Power Mushrooms; I gave them to my dog that had terminal cancer and I think they helped boost her immune.

And that's one long post :o)

  • @Swazzle - welcome back!

@Dignity100 - it's almost your wedding, day, less than two weeks!!  I really hope that your parents decide to come.

it's finally October.  October is my faaaaavorite month.  I feel like it's finally fall!  today we have a high of 93, but a cold front moving through tonight so it'll feel more fall-ish tomorrow.  I still haven't got down any of my cooler weather stuff...  where is fall in OK??
  • @lapeanut1018 it was one specially fitted for my mouth, it's annoying and hard to get used to.

  • Happy October!!!

Now that I had one more good night of sleep post-NOLA, I'm feeling a little more back to normal. I went food shopping after work last night and stocked up on a ton of fruits and veggies, because I realized last week that I hardly ate any. We ate salads for dinner last night, and I had fruit and yogurt for dessert. FI is 110% on board with eating a lot healthier, so I'm hoping we really stick with it this time.

Work has been busy, but I'm looking forward to going to see Gone Girl this weekend, and having an otherwise lazy weekend at home.

NOLA was amazing. We had such a great time!

I need to meal plan today and go to the grocery store after work. We ate so badly while away and I'm definitely feeling sluggish and grimey.

Edited to use the correct words.

  • I like to do salads in the warmer weather, and soups in the cooler weather.  the nice thing about soup is I can make a big batch of it and we can eat it more than once... less cooking and cleaning up for me!

    I hate that feeling!!
  • @CoCoBellaF - I don't think my parents are coming, I'm not holding out.  My dad knows it's wrong for them not to show up and he feels torn/conflicted.  He doesn't want to leave my mom by myself, but he knows it's not fair to me that they do not come.  I wish they would just tell me if they are coming for 100% sure or not; my dad is trying to convince my mom that it'll be ok to fly and leave their cats for a 24 hour period.  I've really made my peace with them not coming and I know it'll drive a wedge in our relationship.  If they're not going, there really is no reason they cannot watch my dogs (other than their cats are on edge when my dogs are there, but the cats have tons of hiding spots) -  I just want them to know that if they opt to watch my dogs that it doesn't magically 'fix' everything.

So now that its October, let's talk about Halloween.

Anyone going to any parties and/or dressing up? H (I keep typing FI!) and I are going to a Halloween party as Wall-E and Eve!! I can't wait. Last year we were The Joker and Harley Quinn and won Scariest (H) and Sexiest (me) costumes.

  • I don't think we're dressing up this year!  we'll answer the door for trick or treaters, and the pups have cute Halloween scarves, but that's about it.  we're going to see The Grinch on stage on 11-1, the day after Halloween... seems so early, but oh well!
  • People have been annoying me allll week! Work is insane right now and I'm scared to take Friday off because I know I'm going to come back to a hot mess.

Tonight I have to go get an oil change done for my car. Afterwards I'm going to CrossFit. I'm already liking my Whole30 results even though I just started it on Monday. I love waking up not being bloated.

I need to do some laundry and cleaning tonight since tomorrow we will be packing and driving over to Kennesaw to drop off Maddux before we leave for New Orleans.
  • @CocoBellaF That does seem early. H believes that Christmas season starts right after Halloween on 11/1. No Thanksgiving season :(  He was adamant on putting up our Christmas tree on 11/1 when we first started living together but I REFUSED and we compromised to 11/15. I don't start anything Christmas related until the day after Thanksgiving. H is crazy.

  • @Dignity100 I'm not sure if we want to do couples costume or just do something individually.  My only thought was Effie Trinket from The Hunger Games

  • @severmill12 - I'm in between you and your H.  I think the "holiday season" (includes Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years) starts right after Halloween.  the tree doesn't come up until closer to Thanksgiving, though.

@southernpeach89 - I want to hear all about your W30 eats.  I made a paleo "Smokey Roast" this week.  it's always so good, W30 compliant!
  • We don't usually do anything for Halloween except for watch scary movies because I'm obsessed. We move into our new house the week before/of so I'm sure we won't do anything again this year except maybe pass out candy for the first time ever!

Did anyone else get the Skinnytaste cookbook? I pre-ordered the ebook so I'm looking through it now!

  • @Swazzle - anything really good in the ST ebook?  I didn't order it, I'm more of a Pinterest recipe girl.  I like to save recipes to my Pinterest and categorize them there.  have you heard more on the house since NOLA?
  • @swazzle how is everything going with the house buying process? How exciting to be closing so soon!!!

  • @Severmilli12 - We're going to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, that's gotta count!!  We're going to wear our Bride/Groom shirts though - they are Haunted Mansion on the front they say 'Just Hitched 10/14/14' with the Hitchhiking Ghosts and on the back they say 'Foolish Mortal'.  Oh - and I agree, Thanksgiving deserves it's own little time too!!

Totally getting no work done today!!

  • @CocoBellaF, @Peaseblossom55 - Still working on all of the inspection stuff. We've sent requests to the seller and hopefully we'll hear something today. I have to work on homeowner's insurance today, bleh.

  • @LaPeanut1018 Funny that you should use that gif from Eurotrip... the actor is from the Dallas area, and a friend of mine who does wedding planning a popular venue in the area actually put together his wedding a couple of weeks ago. She posted a picture on FB of him and her, and he seriously hasn't aged at all. Apparently the bride calls him Scotty.

@swazzle I'm so glad you guys had a blast in NOLA!

@Dignity100 Ahhh so exciting! It's all happening! I think that was a good idea to ask your parents to watch your dogs. It's really the least they could do at this point (other than having an epiphany and getting their butts on a plane).

@severmilli12 Aw FI and I love Wall-E. All of our electronics are named after the movie. My computer is Eva, my phone is Evita (little Eva), his computer is Wall-E, our living room computer that serves as our entertainment system is called Axiom, and the WiFi is called Buy N Large. We are total nerds. Anywho, as far as Halloween goes, we've talked about doing a group costume and going out to some local pubs where they have costume contests. We're either going to dress up Jehovah's Witnesses, or we'll be HP Witnesses (basically the same outfit as the Jehovah's, but we'll carry around HP and ask people if they have a few minutes to spare to talk about the almighty Harry Potter). We haven't nailed down all the details just yet though. If we don't do that, our friends just moved into a neighborhood that does adult trick or treating... basically you carry around an empty mug while you take your kids trick or treating, and while the kids get candy, the adults get alcohol. Seems pretty fun.
