Do you eat breakfast?

I'm usually drinking coffee on the commute and that's it for breakfast. Sometimes, I'm really fancy and I'll grab an odwalla bar or something on my way out the door. What do y'all do?

Is it really the most important meal of the day? Why? Is there a doctor in the house?

  • I have something at work. Usually oatmeal or yogurt. If I'm feeling fancy I'll make a smoothie.

  • I cannot function without breakfast. It doesn't really matter what it is, as long as it's food and a diet coke.

  • No, I just have coffee.... until I feel nauseous or light headed.  I'm just making food now at almost 1pm.

Once I have my first meal of the day, I want to eat allllll day, so I wait as long as possible.

I work at home though, so I don't have as many limitations on when and what I can eat as most people.

  • I always eat breakfast. Lately, I've been taking two eggs and mixing them up with some diced mushrooms and green peppers in a jumbo soup cup, microwaving them for a couple minutes, then adding some cheddar. Delicious, easy, takes less than 5 minutes, and keeps me full until lunch.
  • I am SO pro breakfast. I really feel like it boosts your metabolism, makes you eat less throughout the rest of the day, and give me more energy in the mornings.

Usually I will have coffee, eggs (either scrambled or over easy; sometimes with cheese sometimes without), and toast. Or cottage cheese since it is loaded in protein and low calorie :)

This week we had an overabundance of eggs at our house so I made a crustless quiche with spinach, cheese, and broccoli in it. That's what I've been having.

  • There's no legit scientific backup for the metabolism boosting stuff or anything, just anecdotes and traditional broscience, lol. However, if you're hungry, obviously it's better to eat and fuel yourself for the day ahead. I never feel hungry in the morning, personally, so I just save the calories for later. You don't HAVE to. It's not healthier unless you have blood-sugar or metabolic issues. Just do what you prefer, I promise.

  • Yes, it is the most important.  Because it is when you literally break your fast (because you should have been asleep and not eating for a long time).  Sumo wrestlers don't eat breakfast or lunch, they starve themselves all day and then binge on dinner.
I have a bowl of cereal and a cup of tea pretty much every morning.

  • I have oatmeal or yogurt (or both if I'm hungry) when I first get into the office. I'm not supposed to have coffee, but some days I just need it to wake up.

  • I wish I did. I'm just not hungry in the mornings. I'll have coffee on my way to work.

  • I feel better when I have breakfast, but only if it's something light.

Dole Shakers smoothies are my go-to for when I'm running late. If I have time I'll have Rice Krispies, Cheerios, or granola with either almond milk or Greek yogurt, generally with fruit (strawberries, banana, pineapple). Also a big fan of wheat toast or wheat waffle sandwiches- usually cream cheese, peanut butter, or Nutella with some fruit between two waffles.

Sometimes when I make trifle, I will have that for breakfast. Also spice cake and a glass of milk.

  • I usually have some instant oatmeal.  I like the Quick Cook Steel Cut Oats from Trader Joes.  Then I'll just throw a little agave in with some apples and cinnamon.

  • I have coffee. That counts as breakfast right?

  • I always eat breakfast in the mornings. But I have a blood sugar problem so I can't function without breakfast. I normally have a bagel with cream cheese and a hard boiled egg. Usually with either green tea or coffee.

  • I have to eat breakfast in the mornings, and it has to have a good deal of protein. Usually, I have 2 eggs and sausage. If I'm feeling not lazy, on Sunday or Monday nights, I will make a frittata with some kind of meat and veggies. Then, I have quick easy breakfast all week!
  • I usually only eat breakfast on the weekends when FI and I can be lazy around the house in the morning. If I am particularly hungry in the morning, I will usually just grab some fruit on my way into work.

  • ...I never eat breakfast, and I rarely even get coffee. I would love to get breakfast, because I'm usually hungry, but I prefer to stay up a little later with FI and sleep a little later. So I usually just fish out whatever's in my snack drawer about ten and eat that.

If FI and I ever get similar schedules I will have SOMETHING for breakfast, but right now our schedules are too scrambled, and I'd rather be hungry than miss 20 minutes with him at night, since I only see him for about an hour or two before I have to go to bed.

  • I'm a glutton and eat all. Damn. Day. Breakfast is usually some eggs either hard boiled or scrambled. Then I have toast with jam when I get to work. Then I eat cereal at my desk before I have lunch.

  • Personally, I abide by the principle of, if you're not hungry, don't eat.  Therefore, I don't usually eat breakfast b/c I'm usually not hungry until lunchtime.  As far as I've seen, the whole "metabolism boosting" effects of eating breakfast are so minimal that it won't really affect you that much.  I mean, I've lost almost 50 lbs not eating it most mornings, so I doubt I'm going to turn into a sumo wrestler anytime soon lol.
  • I'm not usually hungry when I wake up (and if I wake up before 5:30 am I am usually nauseous at the thought of food) but I keep granola bars at my desk at work.  By the time I get to my desk I'm usually hungry.

On the weekends I sometimes eat breakfast...

My main reasoning for not eating a real breakfast is that I would rather sleep for that extra 15 minutes.

  • I just hired a nutritionist/health coach! I will ask her when I see her on Wednesday and report back.
  • I wake up and I'll have a cup of coffee with two biscuits or cookies. Then on to lunch. If I stayed in bed later than usual and rolling around, then sometimes I'll feel like the full breakfast with crepes or french toast and bacon.

Not sure if the metabolism stuff is true, but that's what my mom always told me so I got into the habit of eating something. I'm not a huge breakfast eater but I'll have granola and yogurt or at the very least a NutriGrain bar, a cup of coffee and water.

I've also learned to eat before I have my coffee. From what I've read (in admittedly unscientific places) coffee acts as an appetite suppressant. So I've discovered that if I drink my coffee first I'm not hungry right away but my stomach is growling like an actual bear by 10am.

And my BFF has been working with a nutritionist for the past year (and lost 35 lbs! Go BFF!) who encourages her to eat a small breakfast and then to have multiple small meals throughout the day. Everyone's body is different but that's worked very well for her.

  • I'm on medication that im not supposed to have anything besides water for a minimum of an hour before and after so I take it as soon as I get up around 7 and then have my coffee and yogurt with granola at my desk at work around 9.

Im not usually very hungry in the morning so not being able to have breakfast until later doesnt really bother me, I usually only eat it so that i don't pig out at lunch.

However having to wait 2 hours for my coffee each morning is the worst. I am not a morning person at all.

  • I put enough cream and sugar in my 32 ounces of coffee to count as a meal.

I love a good brunch, but I need to wait a few hours after waking up to eat.

  • I always eat breakfast.  During the work week I take it with me and eat at my desk because I just don't have time in the morning before I leave.  Eating something and drinking ice cold water just helps to wake me up.

What I eat varies.  I usually prefer a sweeter breakfast over a savory one.  But I typically eat cereal  or a granola bar and some fruit during the work week.  Sometimes I will have biscuits with honey if I had made the biscuits the night before to go with dinner.  On the weekend I typically make pancakes and every once in a while have scrambled eggs with toast.

  • I absolutely have to eat breakfast. I usually wake up starving and so I have to eat right away. DH makes fun of me because I wake up freaking *hangry* most days of the week.

Lately I've been making over easy eggs with corn tortillas and salsa. Or I'll make a big batch of baked oatmeal on the weekend and then eat it all week. Or if I"m really lazy, Lean Cuisine breakfast sandwiches.

    Baked oatmeal? Please explain.

  • I  usually have a banana on my way to the gym around 6:30, then a grapefruit with coffee around 9:30 and then an apple with peanut butter around 11:30

  • @alucky23 - THANK YOU. I always feel like once I eat breakfast I want to eat so much more throughout the rest of the day, and I always end up overeating. Everyone tells me it's important to eat breakfast, but for me - eating breakfast means I'm likely to overeat for the rest of the day. Sometimes what's ideal doesn't work for a particular person!
