Sent out invites..

edited September 2014 in November 2014 Weddings
.. and now I'm SO EXCITED to start getting our RSVPs back!

I am figuring that since people started getting them yesterday and today that we will start getting them back Friday?

If you already sent out invites, when did they start coming back?

Edited for paragraphs, because they are cool.

I sent our invites on Friday September 12th.  I received our first RSVP the following Monday.  Since then I've only had one day where I haven't received any responses.  They seem to come at a pace of 1-2 per day now.

We sent 44 invitations to a total of 84 people and I'm waiting on 30 people's responses (18 invitations).  Our RSVP date is October 24th so we can get a final count to the venue by November 1st for our November 14th wedding.

ETA: Mailbox stalking has now become my favorite thing to do when I get home from work.

  • I am currently regretting not having the RSVP be a few days earlier.  My wedding is on November 15th and my RSVP deadline is November 1st.

My venue (which includes the caterer) doesn't need a final count until 4 days prior to the wedding.. which is pretty awesome, BUT they want a "good idea" two week prior.  Oh well, too late now!

  • My case is a weird one.

Our venue releases the rooms that were automatically blocked off pretty early.  Because we didn't want OOT guests to miss out on the room rate deal, we set the RSVP deadline to the day the room blocks were released: Sept 3rd.

Which means *cringe* that we sent our invites out in August.

No one even thought it was odd though.  We got about 90% of the invites back on time.  Of all people, I had to chase down my old boss (cornered her in an elevator, ha!) and FI had to call an old coworker (turns out he can't go) but we didnt have to do much chasing.  One guest chose to RSVP online (grrr waste of stamp).

The advantage of having the invites back so early is I can confidently give numbers to my florist, baker and venue!  We even have the seating chart ready to go more or less.

And even though I gave plenty of notice, 2 bridesmaids booked their rooms late.

  • @hikebikebemerry, I think your timing is fine.  Our venue needs a headcount 10 days prior but due to scheduling issues we have our final meeting with the venue on November 1st so I set the RSVP date for October 24.  You should have a pretty good idea for the caterer on time.  Even with 30 non-responders we have a pretty good idea what ballpark our final count will be in.

  • I'm about to send out my invites (at 8 weeks) - just finished printing the RSVPs today!!!

I was originally going to make the RSVP date 2 weeks before the wedding but decided to save myself a little headache and make it 3 weeks out so I can make sure I have enough time to double check my stock (it's DIY so I have to provide everything other than tables and chairs).

  • We mailed ours out around 9/20- RSVP date is 10/22 for our 11/22 wedding. We get a few back every day- but one day there were 8 in the mailbox! Totally agree with CTYankeeBride- can't wait to get home and check out the mail! :)
  • We didn't get any yesterday and FI was teasing me "but you got two yesterday!"

  • Ha!

FI was laughing at how excited I was to check the mail!

  • Agh.. we sent ours out around 8/25, to give about 8 weeks for a 10/25 deadline.  We have to give final count on 10/31, so it gives me some time to track people down.  We sent out like 110 invitations (for appx 200 people), and so far we're at 98 confirmed, 23 declines..... I'm so ANXIOUS.  I don't understand why it's so hard for people to check a box and put the card in a pre-stamped envelope QUICKLY.  Even though they technically have like over three weeks still.  Whaaaatever.  :)  I figure in two weeks or so I'll start individually asking people.
  • I feel the same way. At this point our response date is three weeks away. Put the card in the mail already, people! I'm going to somehow force myself to wait until after our response date to start asking the stragglers (and I'm crossing my fingers that there just aren't any).

  • With RSVPs, I feel like if I don't respond right away, I completely forget.  I think that happens with other people too.

I'm starting to get some verbal RSVPs- one of my good friends told me last night that she's coming (and she purchased her plane ticket!).. so I'm super excited!!

  • I put ours in the mail Monday morning and I've already gotten texts from friends that they received theirs! I technically got 1 RSPV back already, but that was because I had to physically hand them the invite (GM moving this week to parent place, then again the week after) and they filled out the RSVP and handed it back haha. Really stoked to get the first ones back in the mail!

  • So it finally happened!

I got my first RSVPs back!!  SO MUCH EXCITEMENT!

  • Ah, I got my first ones back today! And there were 6! So excited!

  • Surprise...I slacked on getting the invites in the mail BUT I just did it tonight and tomorrow's 6 weeks, so I'm not that far off! Most of the invites are local so I hope they'll arrive on Monday. The RSVPs are going to my parents' house except for the few people from FI's list. I Can't Wait!!! :)
  • Now I'm working on getting the RD invites out.. luckily I just have to e-mail them, but this week got crazy busy all of a sudden.

I, hikebikebemerry, do solemnly swear to send out RD invites.  I shall not drink wine and watch Bridezillas.  I shall not continue my indecisiveness on fonts. I shall just send the damn invites.

  • @hikebikebemerry I do most of my important stuff while I'm drinking and watching TV...just make sure you actually finish it and hit send (and don't let it sit as a draft)!

  • DAMMIT.

I didn't get anything done.. Instead I hung out with some friends, had sushi, and then went and golfed (indoor golfing center).

Tonight. Tonight I shall be productive!

  • Sounds like you had some fun. Good luck with getting things done today!
  • I seriously need to get over my font indecisiveness and move on with our programs.  In order to do this, I need to realize that Pinterest is not my friend right now.

  • I feel unproductive.  I feel like I was so organized in the beginning that I am running out of steam!

    Amen sister. Amen.

I am also loosing ambition for DIY projects.  So over them.

    Preach!!!

The only DIY project I have left (FI printed the programs today) is to finish the escort cards and assemble the seating chart but I have 11 people who apparently don't know how to put a check mark on an RSVP card and get it in the mail.

  • We aren't even doing programs.  Our ceremony is super simple, so we figured we would skip them.

DIY shit I need to do:
    - Make a fuckton of caramels
    - Make labels for the copious amount of apple butter
    - Consider making welcome bags (this is likely falling off of the list)
    - Escort cards
    - Do something magically special for the children (kid favors/ coloring books or something)
    - Table names/numbers; I was planning on doing water colors, but I might make it way more simple, because I got no painting done.
    - Other stuff that I'm probably blocking from my brain right now

We also need to finish up getting parent gifts, some GM gifts (BMs are done- woo hoo!).

More importantly, I need to write my vows and we need to finish writing the ceremony.

  • I have to pick up candy for favors this weekend.  NO MORE EXCUSES.

I'm not doing programs either.  The ceremony is going to be like 20 minutes TOPS.

  • How many declines are people getting?

We might have about 60% of our guest list show up (lots of friends of his Mom that were invited who can't make it, and a lot of people who can't travel).

So right now we're looking at closer to 80 people than the 130ish that we had sent invitations to.  Is it weird that I'm really excited about that?

The way I look at it, fewer people=fewer centerpieces=more bang for my floral budget.  I really love flowers, but it was more important to me to have great food and booze so we had allocated less money to flowers to begin with.

Plus that's less that we spend of food, booze, and everything!  And 80 is the number that FI and I originally had for our guest list.

  • Yay for happy numbers!!

Keeping in mind I have 33 people going to this shin-dig: I've had 3 declines.  We budgeted for 55 people.  At first, FI was sad that there were only 33 people on the guest list, but these people are so excited.  Well....FMIL doesn't sound excited.  All she does is complain...

I'm totally all about the fewer people = fewer costs/costs that can be pumped into something elsewhere.  We are excited to have a late night table (mmmm potato skins...) and lots of cupcakes!  Now people can have more than one cupcake ^_^

We planned for 1.5 cupcakes per person..

The only number that will NOT be changing is the cupcake number!

  • We invited a total of 85 and so far we have 15 declines and 11 people who haven't responded (3 of whom I'm 98% sure are going to decline). If everyone's a yes that will be 70 people.  We agreed early on that any money saved by guests declining would be honeymoon money or go into savings.

We didn't change our cake head count.  The cake itself is included with our reception package but we upgraded the filling- the 15 people who have declined equal about 10$ worth of cake upgrade. I'm all about having extra cake or bigger slices and keeping the cake as-is.

I would have skipped programs but apparently it's the end of the world if FI's sister doesn't get a program at a wedding and since she's the only person in his family that's coming I wasn't going to argue. Plus, FI printed them and cut them (they're a half sheet of paper) so really it wasn't a huge ordeal for me once I picked a pretty but legible font.

  • I GOT MY FIRST RSVP BACK TODAY - and it was a yes!!! It's my son's grandparents, who joined us on our family (my mom's side of the family) vacation last year. I absolutely love these people and, other than my son, the best thing that came from that relationship.
