Guys I'm sorry this isn't going to have paragraphs. I can't get them to work. (Maybe now?)

I keep my alarm clock 10 minutes fast. (My husband hates it). So my alarm goes off at ~7:15 and I hit snooze until 7:45 (really 7:35ish). I take my prescriptions and then jump in the shower.

Get out around 8 and put my contacts in. Go into the living room and check the weather and traffic. Find some clothes to wear, put on my makeup and brush my teeth.

I dry my hair last and then put my shoes on and kiss my husband goodbye (he works second shift). I leave my house 8:30-8:35 and if it's a good day I'll be at work by 9:30. (Boston traffic sucks and we live 25 miles from the city).

If I leave earlier (like today) the traffic is worse (1 hour 20 minutes). I have flexible hours at work so I usually work 9:30 to 6ish. Today I had a 9am meeting so I left my house  at 7:30.  Got to work at 8:50 and didn't leave until after 7. Oh the life of a scientist.

What time do you guys leave work and go to bed at night?

  • I set my alarm for 8:30 if I need to take a shower, 9 if I don't.  I usually hit snooze at least once.  Then, I get up, get a shower, wrap my hair up in a towel (skip the previous two steps if I get up at noon) and start doing my makeup. Then I'll get dressed, shake my hair down and let it air dry and then try to get breakfast (or sometimes I don't get breakfast).  Then I'll sit on the edge of the bed next to H, who is still sleeping, and mess on my phone for a few minutes and then leave.

4:00 - Tell Daisy to go back to sleep because she won't stop shaking her collar and hip-checking the bed to wake me up.

4:30 - Attempt not to cartwheel down the stairs after Daisy rushes me down them so she can whiz.

4:31 -  Burble out "BUSINESS AND COME RIGHT BACK."

4:32 - Find self outside whistling for dingle dog to get her ass back in the house.

4:33 - "Noooooo it isn't breakfast time yet stoooooppppp" as cats and dog all stampede back up the stairs around me expecting food. Attempt to steal my spot in bed back from FI if he's home.

6:30 - Alarm goes off. Check work e-mail. Snooze.

6:45 - try to stay awake while going through the Vonage app and put the calls on simulring. Doesn't always work.

7:15 - final alarm, check Vonage and make sure I didn't dream changing the calls over.

7:16 - Almost throw up from stank-ass canned cat food breakfast smell while I feed the cats. Go downstairs and try not to laugh at Daisy for being scared by the sound of her dog food being poured into the dish. Pee and turn dryer on (tomorrow's clothes are almost always in there so no cats lay on them and they'll be warm/de-wrinkled when I get out of the shower). Take phone call. Ask my dad questions via text.

7:20 - Shower. Curse mom's existence for not answering phone if I have to get out of the shower to get it because she's purposely avoiding it.

7:35 - Neutrogena alcohol-free toner, Alba Botanica moisturizer that smells like pineapple. Brush teeth while petting Sophie as she's rolling all over the bathroom floor. Inevitable phone call while brushing teeth. Go back to dental hygiene once I've dispatched one of our guys.

7:40 - Pet Sophie while getting dressed. She follows me from room to room in the morning because Schultz gets back in bed after breakfast.

7:45 - Almost get trampled by Daisy when I pick my keys up to leave. Either explain that she's staying home with her daddy or say, "Yes I know, we're going to see your best friend. I'm aware."

Drop D off at FILs with their dog who judges me for sticking her with D all day. Go to work.

ETA: I usually fall asleep sometime during Frasier (which starts at 1am). Hallmark is going to ruin my sleep schedule for the next 5 months while they air nothing but christmas movies starting friday.

  •  What time do you guys leave work and go to bed at night?
I get up at 5AM. I have to be out the door no later than 6:15 to beat rush hour traffic. I'm usually at work between 7:15-7:30. There is a weird rush hour low traffic gap if I leave at 4:20. About half the time I've got all my experiments done and can leave at 4:20, the rest of the time it's about 5:30 when I leave. Sometimes I work that extra time and sometimes I kill time on TK until I know traffic is lighter. I'm in bed by 10PM most nights.

    Anniversary
  • 6:45 - alarm goes off. Fumble in the dark and blindly mash the phone screen to hit snooze

6:54 - grumble and get out of bed. Stomp downstairs and into the bathroom. Grumble at H for daring to speak before 10 am.

7:08 - get out of shower. Blow dry hair, apply make up, straighten hair. Same order, every time, every work day.

7:35 - run upstairs and frantically search for something to wear that's clean, matches and isn't wrinkled. Run back downstairs saying "shit shit shit", hopefully remembering to deodorant on and brush my teeth. Grab breakfast if H reminds me.

7:40 - attempted get out the door time. Usually leave around 7:45. I live about 40 minutes from work and don't need to be in until 8:30. Bedtime is usually between 10 and 11.
  • Wow, my whole day seem so late compared to you all!  I work generally from 9:30 until 8:00-9:00 or later.

The night before: lay out my clothes and pack my work/gym bag.

    7:45 first alarm, snooze.
8:05 second alarm.  I'm out of bed.  Pee, brush teeth, get in the shower.
8:15 out of the shower.  Start getting dressed.
8:20 makeup time.  I leave my hair wet because my commute is about half an hour, so it's dry when I get to work.  When it's cold I'll have to blow-dry it.
8:35 run around the house doing last minute things.  Walk the dog if my sister was running late and didn't have time.
8:45 out the door.  Load up NY Times and WS Journal while I'm walking to the train so I can read the news on the train.  Sometimes I load up case documents so I can start reading/working/billing time during my commute.
9:20-9:30 arrive at work and make ALL the coffee.

    I usually don't get home until 9pm.

What time do you guys leave work and go to bed at night?

I get up at 6:40, leave for work at 7:30, work from 8:00 - 4:30, and I'm home by 5:00. I generally aim to be in bed between 10:30 - 11:00 but it doesn't always happen, although I am never, ever up past midnight on weekdays. I work pretty standard office-zombie hours so I am fairly early to bed and early to rise.

What time do you guys leave work and go to bed at night?

On work days, my day begins at 5:30 and I get to work at 6:40am and I leave usually around 8-8:15 pm. Home by 8:30-8:45. In bed by 9:30. I hate work days. They suck the life out of the day and I can't do ANYTHING.

    image   image   image

  • 6:30 FI gets up and makes coffee
6:40-6:50 FI tries dragging me out of bed. I resist. I try to hot him. Often say something related to the dream I'm in the middle of.
6:50-7:10smoke and drink coffee with FI
7:10-7:20 pee, throw on clothes, brush teeth, yell at FSS to turn off his damn bedroom light
7:20 get in the car throw hair into a half assed pony tail while FI drives

  • I do not wake up in the 6s. No f'ing way. Unless I'm catching a plane to go on vacation. My jaw is on the floor reading how early you guys wake up.
  • Work days -

4:27 am - Shove cat off me.
    4:30 am - damn alarm
4:31 am - shove cat off me and drag ass out of bed, put on running clothes, tell dogs to get leashes while I throw food for cat.
4:40 am - take dogs on run
5:40 am - get home, hop in shower, perform shower duties - am I the only one who brushes my teeth in the shower?
5:45 am - dry off, go get coffee, take DF a mug so he gets up
5:50 am - decide if jeans are clean enough, dig for comfy socks, decide to just wear the jeans, find a shirt, pack my gym bag.
6:00 am - make lunches, take medication, dig around for breakfast, make sure I have everything for dinner.
    6:30 am - eat breakfast.
6:50 am - kiss DF and dogs, put on boots
6:57 am - hop on light rail
7:13 am - get to work

This. I applaud you all. I really don't know how it's done. Today, I had to be somewhere by 9 and it was THE. WORST. EVER. I also think though, that I do waste a large chunk of morning time unproductive - but the bed is so damn comfy.

    My morning:
8:15 -> first alarm goes off (FI get up for his coffee, I roll over)
8:30 -> second alarm goes off (FI comes back in room and asks me if he should open the windows -- we have black-out blinds)
8:45 -> third alarm goes off (I lay up in the bed and grab iPad, check emails, facebook, TK, read some blogs, news, emails, whatever)
9:15 -> Oh shit, its 9:15, jump up and go in the shower. Pee, brush teeth, all other bathroom needs during this period
    9:30 -> Get dressed
    9:35 -> Grab breakfast, prepare lunch/gym bag
9:45 -> run a quick blow dry through my hair because it is getting cold out
    9:50 -> out the door.

If I didn't take so much time getting out of bed, lazing around, I think could really be that much more productive.

  • @cupcait927 I am so incredibly envious that it takes you less than a half hour to straighten your hair. Mine (naturally VERY curly) is so thick and long now that it takes almost 2 hours to straighten it. :(
  • 5:15 alarm goes off.  Roll over for 10 minutes

5:25 next alarm goes off.  I actually need to get up.  Put contacts in, get dressed and ready

5:45 leave for my hour-long commute for work

It's SOOO early and I hate it, but I have flex scheduling, so at least I get home by like 4:15 every day and don't have to fight to get a parking spot on my street

  • We usually go to bed between 10:30 and 11, depending on if there's anything good on TV. I leave work between 5 and 5:15.

    I'm still in bed. Yawn.

  • This has been my routine for the last couple of years, but I quit my job this week! So as of the 10th I will have to figure out a new routine. Probably one that includes makeup.

4:00: Alarm goes off. Sneak out of bed to not wake FI.
4:00 - 4:15: Pee, start shower, play on phone until able to function
    4:15 - 4:30: Shower, towel off
4:30 - 4:40: Sit on edge of shower cursing my start time
4:40 - 4:50: Dress, brush teeth, deodorant, put gel in wet hair (it's short so it dries quickly)
4:50: Grab breakfast/lunch out of fridge, kiss FI goodbye
    4:52: Leave for work

Work starts at 5:00 but I'm only about a mile away, so if I leave on or close to 4:50 I can make it on time. Although there are many days like today where I set my alarm for 4:15 instead and end up being late.

I also try and be in bed by 10:00, which is not enough sleep, but I'm a night owl so I have a hard time going to bed before the 9 o'clock hour.

Hopefully when I start getting up at 6:30 or so for the new job I can change some of the "trying to function because it's early" time into "putting on makeup, looking fancy" time. Because I think the office standard are higher at the new place. Also, makeup is allowed because they're not on the production floor.

  • My fun morning routine

7:00- Wake up and grab clothes that I laid out the previous night before

7:05- Hop in the shower, usually takes me between 20-30 depending if I'm shaving my legs

7:25- Put on clothes and slightly blow dry my hair

7:35- Eat breakfast and have some coffee while I do some knotting

8:00- Back up my bookbag for the day, and make sure I don't forget something

8:10- Brush teeth, apply makeup, and finish drying hair

    Before I leave I kiss V goodbye

It depends on the day if I have a morning with V and I'm either on the bus by 8:40 or 9:00.

Those sound like scary schedlues, no 6 for me! Unless I have to study..

I get up in the 5s. That's a little too early for me, but I'm a morning person and getting up so early is worth it so my commute time doesn't double with rush hour traffic.

5:20 Put on running clothes, contact, brush teeth, etc

5:40 out the door for a run

6:20-6:30 back from run and hop in shower

Random time drying hair, getting ready, pack additional workout clothes if needed etc

    7:00 am out the door

** if not running remove steps 2 & 3 and hope I fall back asleep after FI's alarm.

I definitely have it down to a science. My hair is naturally wavy and not super thick, so I can blow dry it mostly straight in less than 10 minutes and then straightening takes another 10. I'm SO happy it doesn't take me that long because my hair left it its natural state is a hot mess.
  • Since I chopped off all my hair, my morning routine has changed. I am so not a morning person.  When my hair was long, I used to shower right before I went to bed, pull my hair back into a braid, and let it dry overnight. But the incredible bed head I would have means that is no longer possible, so, I get up a whole 20 minutes earlier than I used to:

6:30 - alarm goes off, get up, go the the bathroom, feed the cats
    6:35 - shower/brush teeth
6:45 - blow dry and style hair
    6:50 - get dressed
6:55/7:00 (depending on whether I put clothes out the night before) - pack breakfast and lunch
    7:00/7:05 - leave for work
arrive at work around 8, assuming no traffic jams.

    image
  • I shower at night and left my hair air dry. I usually will blow dry it just enough to knock off excess water so my head isn't sopping wet and cold. My hair is still wet when I wake up.

4:00 - FI's alarm goes off and he hits snooze until I finally make him get up at 4:20.
4:20 - Fi gets up and turns every.single.light on in the house except the one in the bedroom. I cover my face with his pillow and call all three of the dogs into bed to cuddle with me.
4:40 - I get up and make FI lunch and let the two girls (dogs) outside.
4:50 - FI leaves for work.
5:00 - Drink my coffee and watch the news or DVRed shows.
6:00 - Wash my face and do my makeup
6:20 - Dry my hair and either braid it, put it in a tight bun, or curl it.
    6:40 - Get dressed
6:50 - Put leftovers from the night before in travel containers for lunch.
7:00 - Take the other dog out and then bring him and one of the girls back in a put in their kennel for the day.
7:10 - Love on the kitty before I leave
7:15 - Out the door for my one hour commute to be at my office by 8:15 and have it open at 8:30.

  • Work days - 4:27 am - Shove cat off me. 4:30 am - damn alarm 4:31 am - shove cat off me and drag ass out of bed, put on running clothes, tell dogs to get leashes while I throw food for cat. 4:40 am - take dogs on run 5:40 am - get home, hop in shower, perform shower duties - am I the only one who brushes my teeth in the shower? 5:45 am - dry off, go get coffee, take DF a mug so he gets up 5:50 am - decide if jeans are clean enough, dig for comfy socks, decide to just wear the jeans, find a shirt, pack my gym bag. 6:00 am - make lunches, take medication, dig around for breakfast, make sure I have everything for dinner. 6:30 am - eat breakfast. 6:50 am - kiss DF and dogs, put on boots 6:57 am - hop on light rail 7:13 am - get to work
Let's talk about how @PrincessOfHavoc goes for a run AND packs a gym bag, which means to me that you work out twice in one day. Omgz I can't even get my lazy butt up in the morning to work out ONCE! How do you do it?!?

Also, I go to bed SUPER early (like 8:30-9ish) because FI and I act like old people. Though I could go to bed at 6pm I think and I still would want to sleep till 10 the next morning. I work until 7pm 2 days a week and those days suck because I get home around 7:15, we have dinner, then it's literally time for bed.

I need to overhaul my morning routine as I am late every day (luckily I am in a sales position where I am out of the office on appointments a lot so no one notices I am later) but I just don't start my day of right. I start as a struggle. And after reading this I am doing about 75% of things wrong!

  • Well when I used to work in Montreal, my routine was like this:

    11am to 2pm: Wake up/brush teeth/have coffee/watch TV/lounge
    2pm-3pm: Get groceries (if needed)
    3pm-4h30pm: Watch TV/prepare dinner/have a nap
    5pm-6h15: Get up/shower/make up/hair/have dinner
6h47pm: Out the door to get 6h57 bus
    7h20pm: Start working.
    3h30am: Finish work
    4h00am: Get home/have a quick rinse/quick snack/pass out.

    Lather, rinse, repeat.

And right now....I'm not doing anything!!! Can't work on present visa so FI's taking care of us both. However I cook, clean, do laundry, get groceries etc. Everyday. Take a walk in the park, have choir practice every Monday evenings. Barely see FI except on Saturdays and Sundays I guess!

Well, there's the routine I intend to have (and feel super proud when I actually pull it off), which is-

    7: alarm goes off

    7-7:20: shower/get dressed/apply moisturizer

    7:20-7:50: coffee/breakfast/check the news/TK/ESPN

    7:50-8:20: dry hair/straighten hair/apply makeup/brush teeth

    8:20: put on jewelry/shoes/coat

8:25: out the door to catch the metro to work/relax and read book

    8:56: arrive at work

But many days it looks more like this-

    7: alarm goes off

7-7:10: stare at closet. I have no clothes. Where did all the clothes go? I swear I own cute things!

7:10: throw pants with the least wrinkles in the dryer with a wet washcloth.

    7:12-7:30: shower/get dressed/apply moisturizer

7:30: check clock, feel proud that I'm only 10 minutes behind schedule. Get coffee and check news/TK/ESPN

8:05: Holy shit, it's after 8! Ok, no time to do hair, I'll just wear it curly and pull it back. Apply makeup and brush teeth.

8:20: Where the hell is my watch? I swear I put it RIGHT THERE! I need my watch! Oh, there it is. Now earrings. Wait, this needs a back. Do I have any spare earring backs? And a necklace? No, that looks weird. Skipping that.

8:28: Crap, I'm gonna be late! Grabs breakfast bar from cabinet and runs out door.

8:35: Dang it, just missed a train. Well, the next one is in 6 minutes so I won't be too late.

9:03: Arrive at work. Discover 'breakfast bar' is actually a brownie. Am not displeased by this.
