    @doeydo I LOVE the cat paw prints. As you know, my cat died a couple weeks ago. Well, I just got her remains back from the crematory company. They put together this really beautiful package of her ashes in a box with her name on a tag hanging from the lock as well as a little bit of her fur in a little baggy and lastly a plaster imprint of one of her paws. I cried my eyes out about her paw imprint.
    I'm so sorry about your kitty! :(

    @lc07

    Could you not put molding clay into the imprint, and then take it out and dip it on an ink pad??

  • Thanks, @sugargirl1019

    I'm sure I could but the way the imprint came out it doesn't really feel like her. They spread her "fingers" too far apart or something for me to want to tattoo it. It was still a very sweet thing that they gave me. But I would do it differently if she were still alive.

    @doeydo Yes they absolutely have the right to refuse to tattoo anything.
    My artist did a tattoo on a legit monk and the monk insisted that he sign his name to it. My artist was like no, I won't put my name on anyone's body. And the monk was like an artist always signs his work and refused to leave until it was signed. My artist finally gave in and did his initials. But he has refused things like swastika all the time.

    My artist has actually gotten into huge fights with other tattoo shops because on more than one occasion he has taken time to draw up a completely custom design, and then someone sees it online and bring it to a shop and that other person gets it done, posts it, and gets all these compliments that the "artist" is so great. My artist has to go on their page and say no, you guys aren't artists- you just rip off my work. Big difference when that was dreamed up by me for my client.

    ETA- There was one where it looked like the skin was torn open at the rib cage with ribbon lacing it together, and blood/ ribs showing through. The ripoff artsit placed it down on the lower hip and we all tore him a new one on FB about how fucking stupid he was because not only did he rip off the EXACT design but it was then super anatomically incorrect. It showed the rib bones still and looked so stupid since it was down on the lower stomach. A real artist would have been like um let's redraw this so it's accurate at least!! hahaha

    Also, question for @MagicInk does a tattoo artist have the right to refuse to do a certain tattoo for someone?  Example, if someone wanted a swastika or a creepy as fuck tattoo of a baby on their crotch or something.
    Yep. Or at least I do. The way I think of it as is at the end of the day I'm an artist. I'm not going to create art that I disagree with. I won't tattoo any kind of hate onto someone. Swastickas, white power, fags are gonna burn, I won't do it. I also won't tattoo your junk. Because I don't want to.

    For people who want junk tattoos, I usually just give them an extreamly high price and they opt against it. Some of them I've straight up said "I'm not tattooing a rocket on your penis, that isn't gonna happen". I'll do it on your back, on your inner thigh, not your penis. Also its stupid and will not impress anyone you're trying to fuck. Our piercers do do genital pircrings and better them then me is my thought. I mean your body, your choice, do your thing, but I don't wanna do it.

    @Ic07 Copyright law is...weird in regards to tattoos. There really aren't many court rulings to go from. Back in the day, no one gave a shit because only outlaws, sailors, and bikers had tattoos. Now they're more popular so the laws are going to have to change to keep up. Technically, we could be sued if I say tattoo Donald Duck on you. It's a protected copyright. However, would anyone bother to sue considering no money is being made from you having it? Eh. It's a wonky area.

    There's a guy that has every single disney character tattooed on him. Disney won't back him up publicly, but they send him new artwork all the time and I guess don't want anyone to get similar tattoos. Weird, but interesting, situation.

    Apparently he is also kind of a dick.
