What do you want for Christmas?

Re: What do you want for Christmas?

  • I wish that giving gift cards was an option, but she has a basket full of them that she's received over the years and refuses to use them.  It would just be money wasted.
  • I guess I am lucky because there is nothing I really need, but one thing that I really want is a new, over-the-top comfy bathrobe. I already have some bath robes, so it is one of the things that I don't really feel the need to buy for myself, but if someone else bought it for me (hint hint FI :-P), I would be ecstatic.

  • I usually never know what I want for Xmas. This is the first year I'm sure about what I want. It's a new activity tracker and heart rate monitor.

My mom in incredibly hard to shop for. This year I'm getting her a pair of Ugg slippers and a Fitbit.
  • We won't really be exchanging gifts this year, as I'll be on my way to Mauritius early December for our wedding. When I was living in Canada I would just send my FILs anything maple related lol. And they loved it. This year no presents I'm afraid. If FI wants to give me a present I would love a blender. Like, I actually really need one now. Moved almost two months ago and still no blender!!

  • Nothing from FI because we are saving for the honeymoon.  I doubt I'll get anything from my parents since they're paying for the wedding, but if they offer to get me something, I'll just ask for a little money so I can put it toward the honeymoon.
  • FI and I generally do something really small for each other for Christmas for the past few years. We would always rather buy our family more than each other. And our wedding is two days after Christmas this year so when people ask us what we are getting/want for Christmas we just say, "a wedding" since our parents are paying for it.

  • I usually just have to guess what the ILs would like (and I knit so I usually just make something I think they'd like).  A couple years ago I got my FIL a Hickory Farms gift set because I literally just did not know what that man would want.  I figured meat sticks and cheeses was a good random guess.  For MIL we usually get stuff from Bath and Body Works like a nice lotion set or anything candle related since she likes a certain scent.  I find his female relatives and mine easier to shop for and he usually comes up with ideas for the guys so since we got married last year we've been putting both our names on the gift and calling it good.

The last 3 years I've had to work retail to pay the bills so the whole holiday season was kind of a nightmare every year.  I've already gotten my wish to not have to deal with crazy last minute customers and no free time so any other gifts I get this year are just icing on the delicious cake.
  • I'm not sure what I want for Christmas. H says he has an entire list of things to choose from for me so who knows what I'll end up with. My birthday is in two weeks from today and I know he's getting me the Sorel boots that I want.

I think his parents are going to help us out with gutters as our Christmas present and my parents will just give me cash, if anything at all (since they just helped out with the wedding). I'm not sure what we'll get all the parents but I do know I want to keep it on a budget since I have a bad feeling we're going to need a new furnace before the end of winter.

  • Every year I give my aunt a few suggestions of expensive things that I want, because she buys our Christmas gifts with money from my mom's estate and she doesn't know me well enough to pick out things I'd like. But this year FMIL demanded a list from me (don't get me wrong, it was really nice of her to include me in Christmas and she's very generous) and I felt so awkward about sending her a list of things to buy me. Anyway, here's what I came up with:

-J Crew cardigan in a color I don't already have (I love them, and yes I need all of them)
-Some cute little bathroom canisters from World Market that match my ring holder
    -Sunglasses
    -Scarves

  • Well, I'll be on my honeymoon in Paris for Christmas so I'm very happy with that as my Christmas present!

My parents usually ask me though, so gift cards to Amazon, Banana Republic or Macy's would be great. And I would love a pair of Hunters but I think those are a little expensive so I'll get them myself.

  • I want WeatherTech floor mats for my new car. Getting it in February and can't wait!

Otherwise, I don't want or need anything. I really don't.

DH's parents are "stuff people". They always want to get me stuff. I seriously do not need any more stuff. If anything, my basement needs to be purged - badly. So every year the question comes and I ask them not to get me anything. They say, "No really, we are getting you something. What do you want?" So I'm like "ok, if you really want to get me something, take whatever money you could spend on me and do something charitable with it." They insist on spending money and I insist on not wanting "stuff", so that's literally all I can ever come up with. If they adopted a local family and bought them gifts instead of me, that would be the greatest gift ever. And it's in the spirit of the holiday.

But I always end up with a bunch of knick knacks and shit that goes directly to Salvation Army or into a box in our basement. Wash, rinse, repeat. *sigh*

  • Ugh no this is me. I really, truly don't know what I need, want or anything. And last week FMIL was like, "OH hey I need y'all's Christmas lists, kapiche?" and she SPECIFICALLY said I needed to provide her with one. Currently it consists of:

    - Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater.

My list is very sad. I don't even know what to DO with it. I haven't made a Christmas list since I was, like, 16, and I only did that because my baby sister still wrote letters to Santa, so all the bigger kids did too.

  • H wants an ultra HD 70inch TV for the entertainment room.  I think 70 is ridiculous.

    I told H I just want a baby.

What?? I love giftcards. She should give them all to me!

Has your FH given you suggestions?

  • I told DH that all I wanted was one of those limo rides to look at Christmas lights. My mom is going to finish two of our registries. My dad and SM are probably going to give us cash, because we are saving up for a generator. Our power goes out a lot in our neighborhood and we are tired of losing all the food in our fridge.
  • My parents usually get me amazon gift cards because I am a book feind. My and Fi's parents also always give XMas pajamas, and I love that. In Fi's family we buy for both sets of parents, SIL and her kiddos. My family is mom,  step-dad, and brother and sister. I love gifting, but it gets spendy. This year Fi and I are buying ourselves kayaks.

How far are you guys done in your Christmas shopping?  I'm all done except for my grandparents, my sister's dog, mom's cats, and SO's dad.  Some people are so hard to shop for.

  • It's always annoying for me to figure out what I want because I essentially have to make a list twice as long for my family because my birthday is this month.  I can't spread it out through the year.

The only things I can think of that I really want are a sewing machine and a camera lens.  I'd also like a pair of cute boots.  Also, I need a purse, but I need to find one I like and buy it, because the zipper broke on my current one a couple weeks ago.
  • I want a pandora bracelet...and a cat. Or just a cat.

  • My husband and I hardly gift ourselves any more. He signed up for preorder on the Amazon Echo, and I told him it could be our Christmas present to ourselves. I'd much rather spend the money on my niece and nephew. My parents typically give me cash, but they will be in town this weekend and we'll probably go to the outlets and my mom will probably buy me some Christmas clothes, so that will be nice.

My list is usually pretty straight forward every year. I can always use more clothes, and my sister gets me beauty products because she's in the industry and gets them at cost and I love that I don't have to buy it myself. Then everything else I want is more than anyone can afford. Right now I REALLY want a new car- or at least for a lot of the things on mine to be fixed, but it isn't a good time to drop $20,000 so I guess I'll just have to wait.

  • So my mom's half of the family is Jewish and celebrates Hanukkah and my dad's is Presbyterian and celebrates Christmas... my brother's birthday is November 28th and mine is December 26th so there are a lot of gift giving occasions coming up!

On my list are:  a new jacket and wind-proof tights for exercising outdoors in the winter, some Origins skincare products, pajama bottoms, and a Clemson football jersey! I'll probably get my FI some new Texas longhorns shirts and a down jacket, which he will definitely need even more soon because there's a chance we will move to Minneapolis next year- he's got an interview there this week!
