Spinoff: Coke or Pepsi

Re: Spinoff: Coke or Pepsi

  • Fountain Coke. All day.
Fountain diet coke is maybe my favorite thing ever.  I honestly stop into the sketchy mcdonald's by my apartment sometimes just to get it
I don't understand how McDonalds fountain Coke is better than elsewhere, but it is. I've made many a stop just for coke. Especially with a hangover. My coworkers know that if I come into work in the morning with a McDonalds Coke, I had a good night.
Agreed. When hungover, there is nothing better than a fountain Coke.

I agree, it is the greatest ever.

I'm going to a movie theater tomorrow night that apparently has a coke machine with 100 different flavors in it.  I'm intrigued.
If it's that Coke Freestyle machine it's not that good.
Agree with the bolded. The grocery store I worked in had one and the novelty wore off quickly. In reality, there's like 6 different flavors for the diet coke and it makes it tasty super syrupy. The rest is just Coke products, like powerade, mr. pibb, etc.
Oh I'm super disappointed now.  Good to know though, I'd rather have very low expectations.  And let's be serious, we're bringing in nips of bourbon anyway to put in with the soda

  • Coke, though I am not big on pop, but if I am having pop I would prefer root beer, orange, or cream soda.

  • Why does fountain Diet Coke taste better at Mcdonalds?

Have you ever had a half empty diet coke in your car, then grabbed lunch through a McDonald's drive through, and suddenly notice the HUGEdifference between the soda you were just drinking and the one you just bought from McDonald's? For years I would swear to my friends that McDonald's sodas taste better, but I never bothered to research why.

There are many theories out there like: "They put more syrup into the mixture" , "McDonald's food is saltier and therefore, being more thirsty, the soda's taste better", and my favorite "McDonald's has a secret contract with Coke"!

Well, after all this time I finally decided to do some research and find out if they were in fact better, and if so, why? What I found might surprise you.

    Only the Best

First of all, each McDonald's restaurant invests a fair amount of money just for their water filtration systems....., more than most (if not all) of the competition. They use the best equipment money can buy and have routine maintenance programs in place to maintain the entire system, front to back.

    • In essence, water is filtered twice through a very high-end filtration system

Second, insulated tubing is run from the back refrigeration unit all the way to the front and drive through units. The soda water is constantly recirculated though this frigid tubing system so it can remain between 33-38 degrees at all times.

    • Keeping this water chilled is critical in maintaining superior CO2 levels,

thus making better soda water, and ultimately making a crisper soda. The CO2 carbonators themselves are actually submerged in ice water! The average temperature of the soda coming out of the fountain at McDonald's is 36 degrees. Management is actually trained to check temperatures and calibration settings. Even the syrup lines are bundled with the soda lines to chill the syrup!.

More Soda sold means a Fresher Product

Third, McDonald's sells a VERY high volume of soda. This means, unlike alot of other franchises, that the syrup does not sit around for very long.

Most McDonald's sell so much in fact, that their syrup does not come in boxes like most franchises,

    • the syrup actually comes in tanks. These syrup tanks keep the product cooler and a bit fresher.

Not by Chance McDonald's soda's taste better

The bottom line as to why McDonald's Diet Coke, and for that matter any of their beverages (Coffee, all Soda's, even the tap water) tastes better is because of the extra attention paid to the beverage systems. Better equipment gives them a huge advantage over the competition, especially when it comes to water quality and the water temperature. They literally ultra filter their water twice before mixing it with anything.....

Now think about this: Why would you pay for a bottled water when you now know that there is a good chance the water coming from the soda fountain may be as good if not better?

(Not to mention you get a cup with ice when you ask for a free water)...

    ~xoxo~

  • Neither.

    Hot tea.

    *dodges stones*

  • "I'll take a Diet Coke please."
    "Is Diet Pepsi OK?"
    "Nope, I'll have a water."

Also, I like the Coke Freestyle machine, because I can make cherry lime Coke Zero.

  • You know what's the worst?  When they DON'T ask you if pepsi is ok and you are SO excited for your Diet Coke and you get a big mouthful of diet pepsi and you want to die.

Ok that's a little dramatic but it makes me sad at least.

We hang out at Buffalo Wild Wings a lot, and they recently switched from Coke to Pepsi. DH and his friends are Diet Coke FIENDS so they were LIVID about it. So now every time we go, the waitress asks what they'd like to drink, and one of them says "That depends. Did you get rid of the Pepsi yet?" "No." "Gross. Water I guess." (They don't drink alcohol.)

  • I don't drink soda anymore. But if I have a craving, or have no choice -Sprite all the way!

  • I actually hate coke, pepsi, dr. pepper, any soda that's brown. I do water or sprite.

  • If I'm mixing with rum, Dr. Pepper is my favorite "cola".

  • I only drink it occasionally and I never order pop of any kind in restaurants (because wine) but I like Coke Zero and usually have a case of it in the house somewhere.

Unless I'm abroad and I can order "Coke Light" which is just Diet Coke but sounds better.

Between coke and Pepsi? Definitely coke. What other soda taste so good with rum? For soda in general I prefer Sprite or ginger ale. I think they only have this in Kentucky so I'm not sue if anyone else has been able to try this but Ale 8 is the best ginger ale ever. As long as you get it in a glass bottle.

    YES, GIRL.
  • I never drink soft drinks. But if I had to choose, Coke would be the way to go for me.

  • Can = Diet Pepsi
    Bottle = Diet Pepsi
    Fountain = Diet Come
Hungover or feeling sick = Regular Canada Dry Ginger Ale
    With citrus vodka = Sprite

  • Diet coke all the way. I am another who gets water or iced tea at a restaurant that has Pepsi. Diet Pepsi is disgusting.

McD's diet coke is the BEST.

I also like the Coke Freestyle machines because I can get Peach Fanta or Cherry Seagram's Ginger Ale or cherry lemonade.

And cream soda is only acceptable when making Boozy Butterbeer.
  • Coke. I also refuse pepsi and change to water.

    Pepsi is just....ugh......

I love coke zero as well

  • Coke!

Pepsi tastes like overly sweet, flat coke ><

"Love is the one thing we're capable of perceiving that transcends time and space."

  • I'm not much of a soda drinker, but I prefer Coke.
  • Mountain Dew.

    Then Coke.

  • Every so often I get a weird craving for Hawaiian Punch or grape soda. I haven't had either in years. Sugar!

  • Coke all the way.  My Gido owned the local Coke bottling plant in the town where my Dad grew up.  We lived on the stuff growing up.  DH has converted me to Coke Zero now though.

Pepsi tastes flat, always.  I'm sometimes ok with it, but I will occasionally order water instead.  I don't mind diet Pepsi as much as regular though.

Funny story, when we were kids, my brother decided to rebel at the age of 6/7 and like Pepsi instead of Coke.  This was back in the 80's when they had the Pepsi taste challenge.  My brother drank both, and when asked which one tasted better, he replied "Pepsi".  It said is several times, no understanding he had to pick the cup.  He finally got it and ended up picking Coke.  He wasn't too impressed.

  • So many Pepsi haters. I'm ok with this, though. More for me!

  • I rarely drink soda anymore (and despite living in Ohio my whole life, I say SODA, NOT POP). When I do, it's Dr. Pepper first, then Pepsi. I also love the shit out of root beer and cream soda and ginger ale.

Y'all, do this: a shot of Fireball & a shot of vanilla vodka in a highball glass, then fill to the top with Pepsi (or Coke, for you heathens). SO DELICIOUSSSSS.

  • Why does no one love Pepsi?!

Pepsi is one of the more serious loves of my life. It gets me through tough times. (I'm an emotional foodie, I'm working on that)

I drink water, pepsi, unsweetened iced tea, and wine. That's it.
