You all just need to move to Michigan and shop at Joann's.

Those are in Ohio, too, and PA. FI works right next to one, which is hella convenient for me.

I've already sent him on shopping missions for Christmas-related things.

NO come to me! I'll make cookies.

Well, they can run backwards through a field of dicks also, but that's not what the thread was about.
    Hahahahaha, I like yours better!
It's not mine; it's from a song on the new album by a band FI and I listen to. ;)

(I just about laughed myself into an asthma attack the first time I heard it.)

Yeah the thread was someone posting about a sale.

Right. At a store that many of us will not shop at. So we said so. I fail to see the problem here?

Ok, we also know what's going to be said in basically every cash bar thread, every PPD thread, every potluck wedding thread, etc. Should we all just stop participating altogether?

Or ignore posts. Sometimes I do, sometimes I post. I don't really care what you all do.

I was just snarking on the predictability of the responses. Just because.

He now, I said no such thing. I have seriously increased snark lately; I can't help myself.

  • Hobby Lobby can kiss my ass.

Sale or no sale. Even if it's predictable, I think it's important that we share our dissent. There are some major news pieces that I'm sure all of us are out of the loop on, including lurkers, and it's important to say that a sale does not trump standing up for human rights. It's possible there was SOMEONE reading this who did not know Hobby Lobby's stance before reading this and perhaps it was enlightening for them.

    Yep, 1,000% agreed.

A sale is never more important than standing up for what is right and I will never, ever not speak my mind.

(Projecting here) I don't think that sharing a sale was an attempt to "trump standing up for human rights". I mean, she is just sharing info about a sale. Or maybe I'm reading too much into your comments.

I like OP. I think her intentions were to share a sale and help us all out.

What I was trying to say is that it's okay for other posters to share their reasons why they would never shop at that store. Even if that is a predictable response, I'm saying it's okay to say "Even if there's a sale I'll never step foot in that store!"

ETA: I should have quoted my original comment. It was geared towards PGL + Ashley's discussion

Gotcha. And even as someone who supports HL, I agree that it's totally fair for other posters to express their disagreement. As soon as I saw the thread title, I expected the comments that followed.
  • I worked for Michael's for the last couple years. We had people shop there all year long because during the holidays Michael's carries Hannukah items as well as Christmas items.

I prefer Michael's because they accept Hobby Lobby coupons, JoAnn's coupons and their own coupons (just not in the same transaction). One store and you can use whichever coupon's better is way easier and I appreciate that.

This. I love and support Hobby Lobby but I understand why people don't.

  • There are places where they don't lock up the spray paint? I have never seen this. Even in Home Depot ours is in a cage and you get an employee to unlock said cage. I figured this was how it was everywhere.

I didn't know that about the coupons!!!

The only place I have seen this is Michaels and mabye Hobby Lobby. . . JoAnn and Pat Catans don't in my area, neither do the housing supply stores.

I assumed stores locked up spray paint to prevent theft for huffing.

Thats what I figured as well. Walmart, Michaels, Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, all of them lock it up in my state. Not sure about Hobby Lobby, didn't last very long in there to find out, and I've never looked at JoAnn's spray paint to know.

Same here. I have never seen it not locked up. Same with those air duster can things.

I haven't read all the comments (shame on me as OP) but I didn't realize this would blow up. Yes, I was trying to be helpful posting the sale. Yes, I realize many of you guys don't shop at HL and that's totally fine and acceptable, but a lot of people do shop there and would benefit from the sale. And I also have a really good friend who is openly gay and in a relationship with multiple partners, and eats Chickfila like it's going out of style, so for all I knew all of you guys could have been like "SWEET! 50% OFF!!"  And it's okay that that wasn't your response :) I'm not saying a sale is more important than human rights, promise.

    ETF word usage.

I don't think anyone implied that you didn't support women's right, so no worries!

You were being helpful by posting the info for people who do shop there (for some unknown reason). But those of us who would not ever are going to say so. Which, as you said, is totally fine. Nobody needs to get all up in arms about it.
  • Not touching the Hobby Lobby debate, but I've never seen it locked up before. I have been ID'ed to buy spray paint before, because apparently you have to be 18 to buy it where I live. Found this out a few hours before my 18th birthday when I was attempting to buy some to spray paint the duct tape that was holding down the hood of my car....

This. I love and support Hobby Lobby but I understand why people don't.
I'm very seriously not trying to start a fight - I'd like to understand.

How can you love and support someone who oppresses others? I completely get loving and supporting a certain religion - but when it comes to the persecution and oppression of others...I just get lost.

And yeah, fuck Chick-Fil-A too. Anyone against love and equality I ignore during my consumerism. The more companies that step up in support of hate - the less places I have to spend my hard earned money.
