Hi Everyone!
I'm getting married in Oct '15. I love the wizard of oz and wanted to have subtle hints of it in my fall wedding. I having a hard time of merging my two ideas.
  • I have the red sparkly shoes
  • along ceremony aisle I'll have yellow bricks at the start of the chair aisles. My flower girl is throwing yellow leaves (because they're free!)
  • at the base of my traditional white wedding cake I want little legs poking out. similar to this @KatieSheaDesign ♡♡♡ #Cake #Wizard of Oz Theme
  • I'll have red poppies in the girls bouquets along with deep fall colors  and similar to this, on the cocktail tables I'll have clear vases with single red poppie flowersRustic white themed wedding | The Frosted Petticoat
  • Also, at the escort card table we'll have a heart just like this with room to put a WOZ quote at the top. I'll be sliding in the name cards into the yarn in heart. I also have old oil cans and flowers to put beside it http://www.pinterest.com/pin/95138610848646299/  love this!!

so my dilemma is I want to incorporate pumpkins into the centerpieces and additional decoration. like this I never thought about using a pumpkin as a flower vase, I love that idea for a fall wedding!just different flowers.

I do think too much WOZ decor can look tacky. So how can I merge my fall colors and pumpkins with more or less wizard of oz. Any additional WOZ decor that I haven't thought of is welcome too. Pictures or link so I can find them please!! I just don't want people to look at everything and think I just couldn't make up my mind. I'd like it compliment my love for the movie and flow with season and venue.

thanks!!

  • Are you putting as much time into the menu and seating as you are with this?
  • If red and yellow are the only big colors in your color scheme, congrats! You're done!

Seriously, I think you're overthinking this. You want to use pumpkins, use em. Maybe paint them white or cream if you want to tone it down.

  • Go with the pumpkin/floral centerpieces. It will keep the WOZ theme from going overboard & making your wedding seem like a kids party. If you ad those, you will have a nice balance of fall & WOZ.
  • does it seems like I'm over thinking this too much? I was just reaching out to people who I thought would have unique ideas to add.  the seating plan is done and the menu is tentatively picked unless something changes in a year.

We all over think aspects of our weddings. I can't tell you how much time I spent worrying over getting the "right" shades of blue and green for mine. The nice thing about forums is getting outside perspective. If you like the pumpkins, go for it. They'll look nice and they fit in pretty well with a WoOz color scheme.

  • If you've read the Oz books, you'll find the next character you meet is a man with a pumpkin head.  I think pumpkins will be a wonderful addition to your theme especially for the book nerds in the group.
  • @adk19 when I read her post about the pumpkins it reminded me of something from the books but I couldn't remember what, good catch!

Are there any groomsmen? If there are three I was thinking it would be really cool if they had a pin or something small that of, the cowardly lion, scarecrow and tin man.

  • The bright colors like you see in Oz are the perfect compliment to fall. I guess the question is how far you want to take it. If you just want a touch of Oz, then I'd say you're done.

If you want to really go for the theme there are lots of options. You could have a Wizard of Oz cake topper, or maybe add some green crystals to your decor to represent the Emerald City. You've already got the pumpkins, but you could add some apples too (that would be great for fall and represent those nasty apple trees that attack Dorothy).

There are loads of Pinterest boards for Oz weddings, so I don't think you're crazy!
