Re: What are you getting FI/H/SO for Christmas?

  • I got him Shadows of Mordor, a tie with Freddy Mercury on it from Etsy, a Destiny t-shirt and a few pair of dress socks (he needs to dress up at his job). Might get him something else not sure yet.

  • A new winter coat. Some pairs of jeans (probably the ones he really likes from Banana) and ahh...a vape pen.
  • We only gave eachother $50 to spend, so I've been looking through the outlets for a watch. Hes so incredibly picky though, I made him take me to Fossil and I wrote down all the item numbers for the ones he liked.

    Men.

FI hates gifts and money is tight right now, so I was thinking we'd probably just have some fun time in the bedroom for both Christmas and his birthday (also in Dec).  But I might steal @beethery's idea and get him a shredder.  He caused our last one to spontaneously combust... there are still scorch marks on the driveway :)
I always think of these great gift ideas.  Then I don't write them down and when it actually comes to picking out gifts, I have no idea what to get.

How many sheets of paper do you have to put in a shredder to blow it up like that?

WinstonsGirl KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities. We've been to a couple shows now, and they are always good!

ChemFanatic25 Molecular gastronomy is such a cool gift! I bought a 'cocktail' set last year for his bday, and it's pretty sweet.

  • I think I am getting my SO a Polo hoodie and the Sega Genesis console that he keeps talking about. It's so old but it seems like it has made a comeback with all of the games from our childhood.  I'll probably get him boring things like socks and his fave body wash as stocking stuffers.

  • FI thought I was getting him a PS4. I am not getting him a PS4. But I am probably going to get him a new tire for his bike (i.e. pay to have a guy fix it) and probably get him some beard oil. He has a great beard.

  • We just moved in to our first house together this past weekend - so Merry Christmas! Ha. We did a lot of shopping together for home things, and we are getting married in March/honeymooning right after so that about covers our Christmas for each other. We are on a super tight budget for the next couple months so we are both totally happy just getting to wake up Christmas morning together.

Aw! That is so sweet, and so exciting! :)

  • Just ordered H's gifts: finger exerciser, silent practice fretboard, and his favorite guitar picks. Will also stuff his stocking with his favorite pens and a mountain of Swedish Fish.

  • @anemone I started reading too fast and saw 'lube' and had to re-read all bug-eyed because lube and paper shredders do not seem like the beginning of a story that doesn't end in the hospital.

:)  I guess I could always say that he "oiled up" the shredder.  But that makes me giggle even more.

Where's the "nicknames for vaginas" thread?

  • I made FI a book using the pictures of him and his daughter from when she was little until her high school graduation this year. I should get it this week! I also ordered a duplicate for his daughter. I'm also thinking of getting him an IPad for when he's out of town working so that he has something to keep him occupied in the hotel and we will then be able to skype. Also some odds and ends.

I'm so sick I lost my voice, and now I'm making this terrifying wheezing sound because I can't stop laughing. H thinks I'm dying.

  • We are moving in together finally (long story short: were planning to do it this summer, got engaged instead, pushed back the moving date while we did some planning and booking of important things) so we bought ourselves a bed for Christmas. :)

We're driving up to Maine on Christmas day to a fancy bed & breakfast with a hot tub and a double sided fireplace- 1 one side is against the tub woohoo! So 2 nights there is our main "gift" to each other. He has 2 expensive, thick flannel shirts from Vermont that he loves so I'm also ordering him one more of those
Sounds awesome.  What brand/store are the thick flannel shirts from VT from?  My guy loves flannel.
  • I bought Fiance a set of wireless headphones when he needed a pair and found a great sale on the model he wanted....in August. I joked then that they were his Christmas present. He's decided to take that completely seriously and said that he doesn't want me to get him anything else. But so that he has presents to open, I'm getting him a CD he wants and a pair of gloves with the fingertip mesh that will let him use a touchscreen.
  • Um, she already gets me for the rest of her life. What else does she need?

I'm going to get her some kind of new bag for work (anyone who knows anything about fancy work bags tell me! My purse today is blue and furry clearly I do not know things about fancy work bags), and I'm not sure what else.

Her birthday is Christmas Eve, so I gotta get her a birthday present too.
  • H doesn't buy clothes for himself so I'm getting him a new mid weight fleece, a fall/early winter coat, a wallet, and he loves to snowmobile and his gear was getting very old so I found a super deal for snowmobile pants and a jacket on ebay.  I was a little worried about the jacket because he takes snowmobiling so seriously but I showed it to FIL who is also very serious about snowmobiling and he thinks he'll really like it.  Here is hoping!

@vikinganna87 Vermont Flannel Company. They are amazing, I have pj pants and he has the classic shirts.

I am SO SALTY that I don't have room for this in my budget anymore. Oh well. His birthday is coming soon, too. :)
  • Probably a Deadpool hoodie and some other randoms.

  • Well, last year I planned and paid for a trip to North Carolina so he could see his all time favorite North Carolina TarHeels play their arch enemy, Duke.  Then, when it got postponed due to a piddly little snowstorm, I took him back the following weekend.  This is probably why he decided to propose.

There is no way I can top that gift, so this year I got him a Kaplan GRE prep book and a book on getting into PA school since he starts pre-req classes this spring.  I'll probably also throw in some UnderArmour running clothes or new earbuds.

Side note: I now want to refer to my downtown area as "The Shredder" because it's so badass.  But that doesn't sound very welcoming :/

I'm stumped on gifts this year- for everyone...

I bought my fiance a record by Jack White.  He likes Jack White; not into records, but we have one of those "old fashioned" knock off machines w/ multiple media types that can be played, including records so I figured, eh- what the heck.  The record was only 9 bucks so if he doesn't like it NBD.

For our first Christmas together I made him an owner of the Greenbay Packers (GO BEARS) so I will never be able to top that gift.  He got a stock certificate that he wants framed, so I may just load $100 onto a gift card so he can go online and pick one out from the "Owner Exclusive" online store they have.  He's claimed a space on one of our walls for the cert, so I think he's really hoping to get this this year.

Other than that, my fall back is always Lego.  He's a Lego nerd.  He's been into the Architecture stuff for a few years now so I'm thinking of buying him the Sydney Opera House, but it's like $350!  I know he'd love it though, and since I have no other ideas, this may be what I end up giving.

    ETF:  spelling / grammar errors.

@FeeleyToBe Why don't you frame it for him? You could also get him a sydney 3d puzzle instead? http://www.amazon.com/WREBBIT-3D-Sydney-Opera-925-Piece/dp/B008M7058A

  • H is getting a range finder for hunting which he has been bugging me about constantly.  He is also getting dress shoes (starting a job in January and I found an amazing deal!), a nice belt (also for the job bc he'll be dressing up), and a really funny tshirt I found bc I just couldn't help it.
