Wedding bands (like the actual ring, not the musical entertainment)

Re: Wedding bands (like the actual ring, not the musical entertainment)

  • I already want to see if the jeweler H got my set from will custom-make a second band with birthstones in place of the diamonds... and this thread is making me want like 6 different bands to swap out at my whimsy. Can that be a thing?
Oh dear god I would love that to be a thing.

Minor threadjack, since it's related: how do you guys think this wedding band would look with my engagement ring?

  • Mine matches because H bought them as a set, but I like the look, especially in a stack:

I have a giant MK rose gold watch that I wear every day with my white gold set. Zero fucks given.

Um this is FABULOUS! Perfection. <3

Both my rings are white gold. But I really was looking at rose gold for the longest time! I find it so beautiful!

I am leaning towards thinking it would work well! Do you have the chance to try it on together?

  • @Sugargirl1019‌ No, no way to try it on. :(
  • You guys are making me want to go ring shopping again.  Just for funsies.

H's mom had a new ring designed when she had kids; H has promised he will do the same for me (he wants to melt down his first dad's wedding band and create a new one).  I think he thinks that will get him babies sooner.  He forgot how much I enjoy wine.  And sushi.  And NOT being pregnant.

  • I went with white gold for both, but I think mixed metals look beautiful too. If I had thought of that before ring shopping I would probably still be trying to make up my mind!
  • My wedding ring is solid silver, to match the engagement ring. They are both engraved with flowers and vines.

  • @esstee33 I think that wedding band would look FABULOUS with your e-ring.

It's ridiculous how back and forth I go between OMGBABIES and OMGNOTBEINGPREGNANT.

I'm also drinking a black russian right now. Just cause I can. Not to mention caffeine.

  • @esstee33 I think that would look great!

I'm totally eating sushi when I'm pregnant. (which is NOT YET.)

My other option is one I've actually seen next to my e-ring and really, really loved, which might be the safer option: CLICK . (OK, well, I tried on a nearly identical ring in a store, not this exact one.) The final sale aspect of that Etsy one makes me really nervous.

That link sent me to a queen size platform bed. :-p

Would the Etsy seller make you a cheapy aluminum ring or something to see how it fits next to yours before they make you the real deal?

Hahahaha, whoops! FI and I are also shopping for new furniture. That platform bed has a corresponding bookcase headboard!!

ETA: I'm not sure the seller can, since it's apparently the only one they have.

I like the first band better than that one. Just more unique.

I had a headboard with a bookcase in it when I was a kid. I woke up curled up inside the shelf every morning. :)

I love that second ring as well, but I almost think it will be too much bling.

I thought it would be too, but when I tried it on in the store it looked perfectly complimentary and not at all overwhelmingly blingy.

I've been going back and forth about my wedding band for weeks and it's driving me craaaaaazy.
  • My e-ring is stainless steel, my band is sterling silver (with a row of CZ). The difference in metals is barely noticeable to others. Mostly what bothers me is that the steel is more highly reflective than the silver.

Personally, I think the important thing is that you choose a ring that you like and will want to wear every day, regardless of whether the rings "match".

My first thought was "OMG. No." I've gotten obsessive over rings, and have lurked on pricescope and read up on jewelery way too much. Every place I've looked has said "buy the same metal for your engagement ring and wedding ring so they don't damage each other" I have a platinum engagement ring. I was considering palladium for the wedding band, because it's a similar element but less expensive and I thought that since they are so similar they may not hurt each other. But, after reading up, they have a different hardness and will, after a while, damage each other.

Based on everything I have read, Gold (white, yellow, rose) next to platinum would not work. The platinum would eventually wear away the gold. (or maybe it was vice versa and the platinum would get displaced? obviously I need to study more! haha)

If you really want the mixed metal look, then like a PP said... get a spacer. Or, just be aware that down the line your rings will probably be damaged.

ETA: metal wearing away isn't always obvious until years down the road... but if you're looking at a thin rose gold ring with diamonds, then the metal that would get slowly worn away could be those tiny prongs... making it more likely for the melee to start falling out (which isn't that unlikely to begin with since pave and micropave are notorious for that.) The fear of that would drive me nuts.
  • Both my erring and wedding band are platinum. My wedding band is a plain 2mm round band. I wanted something classic and simple that would hold up and last a lifetime.

For fun, I currently have 2 different ring wraps/guards they I wear to coordinate with my outfit/jewelry/mood. One is diamond and rubies and the other is sapphire and diamonds. They are white gold.

  • Love the combo of rose gold and platinum.  They look great together!

  • I know I'm late to this party:

My e-ring is white gold with rose gold halo. My wedding ring will be rose gold. I think they look great together- I don't have a picture to post now though. If you're interested let me know!
