Re: Pets picking favorites

Stella definitely comes to me more for cuddles. But I have a sneaking suspicion that she likes H more. Which is messed up, because I'm the one that picked her out of that cage and rescued her 4 years ago way before H came into the picture!
  • We have three dogs and a cat that live with us and two that live with FI's parents. One of the dogs at FI's parents' house was his from a kid so she (Kayla) definitely picks him and the other (Bo) is her BFF that I got FI when we were in high school and we couldn't separate them. He chooses FI too.

The three dogs that we keep are June, Loretta, and Bama. June will pick FI and cuddle with him any day over me. Bama will pick me every time and he even "protects" me when FI tickles me and I yell. I think I'm Loretta's favorite but in the evening she always has to sit with FI on the recliner and not me.

I'm definitely the cat's, Wynona's, favorite. She doesn't like to be held and cuddle a lot but she will come cuddle with me on the couch and never with FI.

  • I rescued my cat, Kiki, from the ARL in 2012. My FI didn't even want a cat. He had a huge problem with a cat before, peeing everywhere (even ON him) and scratching up everything. So I agreed: A girl cat that was already declawed. Instead, I fell in love with a tortie with claws, still a female though :) after much pleading and meeting her, FI agreed to adopt.

We got her home and he would pet her and talk to her but then, she decided he was her favorite. Now she sleeps with him, snuggles on him when he's home for lunch etc. I'm totally stinky socks. I saved her life! He didn't even want her lol but now, they're best friends.

  • If we're awake, he loves me. Asleep, he's bugging H. Except today he bugged me to let him out, which is good since I hadn't set my alarm.

She must have realized he needed a little extra attention! :-)

For our pups - it depends on the dog and the activity. Our pug is pretty partial to me. But I had him for six years before DH came in to the picture. But he and my ex hated each other - with a passion - to the point that the dog hid under the bed any time he was there. So the dog has a special place in his heart for DH as he realizes what a wonderful caring dad he is in comparison.

Our rescue pup seems to be a daddies girl most days. But she tends to like to play with me more, but cuddle with him more.

Moment of love both dogs show to DH and not me? His truck is really loud and you can hear him coming from down the block. Any time he comes home they both howl and dance in circles. It's hilarious!
  • I had Bailey (our beagle) for about a year and a half when I met H. Don't get me wrong, she adores H, but she is 100% my dog. It's actually really funny because H and I will stand on the opposite side of the room and he will take her leash and ask if she wants to go outside. She runs up to him, wags her tail and barks, and even nudges the leash. Then when he goes to put it on her, she will run over to me and sit on my feet. Hahaha.

Zillie (our kitty) is new to us and is starting to show signs of favoritism. And by that, I mean she loves whoever is opening her food can more.

  • Our pup Gracie has "Daddy days" and "Mommy days."  Some days she is attached to my hip, others it is all about H.  H and I are also different in how we interact with her.  I am the motherly one.  I feed her the majority of the time and cuddle with her and take care of her if she is not feeling well.  When she was really sick last year she would come over to me and sit in my lap and lay her head against my chest.  H on the other hand is the playful one and rough houses with her, wrestles with her and takes her out back and throws the ball around.

I also love how you can just see her whole body and mind and everything relax when both H and I get home from work.  Depending on H's work schedule he could be home before or after me, but when we are both home her whole demeanor changes and you can just tell she is 100% content.

  • Bisou (tuxedo cat FI had before we met) is a complete daddy's girl.  She greets FI at the door when he gets home and chills on his lap until I get there and goes straight to him if he's eating chicken, fish or cheese.  The only time she cares about me being around is when I just washed my hair because for some reason she likes to chew on it and at bedtime because she's been sleeping on top of me (used to just be on the pillow beside me).

My cat equally hates us both. He doesn't cuddle or like to be held. In fact, if you even touch him without his approval, he will bite you.

That's how P is. P is my cat but she has stayed at my parents house since I moved in with FI. It would be too much for her to move and get used to all new stuff.

I got her at 13 weeks old (they think) and I'm pretty sure she came from a VERY feral colony. She will walk around rubbing her face on things, and she always comes to greet me at the door when I would either get home when I lived there, or whenever I come over. She would sleep on my feet and to a certain degree, she'll let me pet her. After about a minute, she's had enough and will growl or hiss at me to tell me to mosey.

Sometimes they're unfriendly, but they can still have favorites... to a point lol

  • We have two dogs.

One dog DH had before we met and it is most definitely his dog.  He will cuddle with me when DH isn't home and on occasion when he is home, but he most certainly favors DH over me.  Even then it took a year or two before he was attached to me enough to cuddle at all and used to just lay by the door if DH wasn't home.

The other dog we got together about 3 years ago.  She was 2 years old and rescued from an abusive home.  She took to me immediately.  It took over a year before she would even let DH touch her unless he had food in his hand. She's now more accepting of him and will even cuddle with him on occasion if I'm not home.  But, she is definitely favors me over DH.  To the extent that if I'm home, she won't even let him put her leash on her to go for walks because she doesn't want to leave if I'm not going with them (he has no problems doing it if I'm gone).

So, luckily it worked out that we each have our dog that favors us.  Although, I will admit that, before we got 2nd dog, I was sometimes jealous that our 1st dog preferred DH to the extent that he did.

  • I was completely opposed to getting a dog but got talked into Maury. I still would prefer that we not have one- he's a ton of work, responsibility, and bills and having a dog doesn't fit with our busy lifestyle.

I'm his favorite- by a lot. He sits at my feet, gets super-excited when I get home, and cries when he sees me cry (and I'm a crier).

The only exception- he's been getting drops for his ear infection lately. He grows whenever he sees me walking towards his pile of meds. I suppose I don't blame him though- ear infections hurt!

  • My dog goes absolutely bonkers when I come home from work. It's like she thought I was never coming home and it melts my heart. My FI has mentioned that she doesn't go all out for him when he comes home, but I have to remind him that when it's bedtime, she snuggles up right next to him and not me!

    Dogs are weird.

The tabby cat, Mopsy, is a Daddy's girl. She will sit in his lap, cries for him, and generally shows him he's her favorite. I am given love from her because 1) I am the one who gets up at 6 am, and thus feeds them and 2) of the two of us, I am the better perch on the bed, as I don't move when a cat is sitting on my stomach. DH when asleep does not care- he flails. Mopsy also hops up on my desk for affections, normally when I am trying to get something done. I'm also given attention when we have some sort of beef or chicken in dinner- I occasionally give her little bites of the meat, and get tapped on my arm for noms.

The tuxedo, Squirt, is my little baby cuddle bug. She snuggles with me and will come when I call her, though really, she's an equal opportunity lover- (ie, you has hand? I has head. Scratch now, please.) She purrs more for me than DH. She'd snuggle with me in bed if it weren't for Mops. Mopsy is the dominant one, and wants all of me at bed time. So Squirt tends to cuddle closer to DH.

    Funny things-

when my dad was diagnosed with cancer, Squirt would not leave me alone. I could not sit without this cat wanting to be with me. She knew I was upset and wanted to comfort me.

I just had Lasik surgery last week. For the entire 4 day weekend encompassing surgery and initial recovery, Mopsy would not leave my side. I've photos of her curled in between my legs with her head on my ankle. She beat on the door crying if I tried to use the toilet without her there. Finally figured it out- she knew something was up, and wanted to make sure I lived to be able to feed her in the mornings. Plus, extra squishy pillow time (aka, my belly) for her.

  • H has a lot of tattoos and Edna gets very upset when he has a new one. She tries really hard to get at it and follows him around with her worried face. I'm sure she thinks he's wounded and tries to help.

  • I suspected from the start that my ferret that I had for years before meeting H likes him better.

We got a puppy in August and he prefers me and that makes H sad. He still loves him but he is more excited when I come home and follows me everywhere. I think part of it is that I'm the one training him. We make sure we each do about half his feedings and we both walk him. But he is definitely still a little more attached to me.

My dog is the exact same way.  It's like he isn't fully relaxed until mama and daddy are both with him.

Does anyone else talk for their dog?  FI and I have entire conversations where we're both just speaking from our dog's perspective.  We're weirdos, I know.  :/

I do this for the cats, haha. I didn't even really realize I was doing it until one day FI commented about how much he loves it and how funny it is. He keeps telling me to record it and put it on YouTube, but that's definitely not happening!

  • @duhitsd. Ask and ye shall receive! Also of note the tuxedo is very overweight. She was that way when we got her. We've tried a forced diet but she always manages to get more food an has been documented busting into the auto feeder. Mopsy the tabby is very vocal to the point I pretend to have conversations with her. Said convos tend to culminate in my exclaiming what a hard life she has, to an agreeing meow from her.

Ps- photo of tabby sleeping is from after my eye surgery last week when she was guarding me. I will have to look around. ..ive a photo of mopsy sitting on my husband's ass kneading his back...

Oh my goodness, too funny. I have a pic of Chloe grooming FI's hair from a year or so ago.

Olive's favorite, hands down, is SS. If he's home, then we don't exist. Beyond that, I think she could take or leave both DH & me. She's super sweet (when she wants to be) and very protective of her space & people (when she wants to be), but I really think she is, at the core, opportunistic and would like anyone who feeds her.

Gus was born to be served (…preferable on a big, fluffy ass pillow…with someone fanning him & feeding him treats…while scratching his ass…), so outwardly one might assume he favors DH, who spoils him something fierce. But he's really a mama's boy. He starts getting huffy and sits by the garage door if I'm not home on time and will go on hunger strikes when I'm on vaca or away on a business trip.
Chef gets PISSED if I'm away overnight.  He will flat out ignore me for a good 24 hours when I return.    He doesn't do that when DH comes home.   If we are away together he gets so excited to see DH, but he gives me stink eye as to say "I'm pissed you are were gone so I'm not going to cuddle with you."

YES!! He aways gets super excited when I walk in the door, and then proceeds to shoot the stink & full on ignore until I've "learned my lesson". God bless bulldogs ;)

LOL my bulldog does the same thing! She gets super mad and cold shouldery if I come home briefly and then leave again. I LOVE bulldog attitudes.
Nope, my princess always FREAKS OUT when she sees me. no stink eye/cold shoulder..
but I also adopted her from a shelter and she has issues being away from me :(
