Etsy Registry?

We were trying to decide where we were going to register.  There are somethings I like at Target, BB&B, Macys etc.  But nothing really struck with me.  Then I found out I could register at Etsy.

Is that Tacky? I like the idea of supporting makers and artisans.  As well as a unique piece.  But making my guest do the thing that I like?
I would include a normal registry at Target for my two.

I had a small etsy registry, and I received one or two gifts from it. I say go for it, but it will not be as popular as a Target or other mainstream store registry.

  • Yeah I had a feeling it wouldn't be popular.  But I would probably finish off the registery on my own!

  • Not tacky, but also not convenient. Since most things are unique, you could have more things sell out. Could be much harder to return/exchange if something shows up damaged or not as described/expected.

  • I once went to a baby shower that the girl used myregistry.com, where you can register for any online store and it all goes to that one registry.  She had some etsy stuff on there. I personally did not like myregistry. I thought it was a pain because it would link to the item on whatever site, but you had to manually go back and mark it off as registered, including entering the shipping details and stuff.   I think Amazon does a universal registry as well, although I've never used it.  You can do something like that so you can include etsy items, but also some more mainstream items so more people may use it?

Yes, Amazon does a universal registry, but it's just like myregistry in that you have to go back and click that you bought the item.  But if you do a bunch of mainstream items through amazon and only have a few etsy items linked in, it could work.
