  • Goddamn, you bitches is FANCY. The fine motor skills on this bunch, I tell ya!

You all look so purty. I aer impress.

I'm planning to get my nails done tomorrow (at a salon, because let's be real, I can't do my own). I have never requested any particular nail art from my usual $8 mani joint. What do we think, will it bump the price up to $10?

    Haha it just takes practice!

Usually the places like that can't really do nail art.

If you ever wanna really be fancy, go to Paintbox Nails downtown, amazing nail art

    I NEEDS THE PIXIE DUST!

And Wet N Wild is the black that I have! :-p I've just had it for approximately forever so it's gummy.

  • @lolo883 you should invest in some nail polish thinner, you can get it at most beauty supply stores or on Amazon, just a few drops will revitalize any nail polish.

And yes, all the pixie dusts.  The OPI Liquid Sands are good too but not as good in my opinion.  They just discontinued the pixie dusts though so get them asap!

  • @laqueredlover, where did you get the Acquistry? It's gorgeous, and I don't recognize the brand at all.

Then happy I, that love and am beloved

Oh, I assure you, I will never practice. Never ever!

But I might have to check out Paintbox sometime when I'm feeling flush and not planning to play any sports in the immediate future. Your advice may turn me into a lady yet.

  • paperpusher sorry I was away so I just saw this.  Did you use a fast dry top coat?  What brand?

Honestly some brands of polish just don't agree with my body chemistry and never dry.  I can't wear Revlon.  But I can wear pretty much anything else and with Out The Door fast dry top coat, I virtually never have denting!
@lacqueredlover - I did not use a fast dry top coat.  The particular color and top coat I was using that night was Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme wear.
I never thought about them not agreeing with body chemistry.

I can't paint my nails to save my life, but you ladies are really making me want to so something fun for NYE.

ETA: I despise those Jamberry things. They always look awful on me, and they peel off so quickly. It's too bad, because I bought these really cute mint and gold ones that I will never use.

  • Does anyone know of a good tutorial on using the metallic nail tape?  I haven't found a really good one that suggests tools to use, or how to easily lay the tape down and trim it, etc.

  • Okay, pretend that this is fancier and less sloppy.

You're a bad influence. I ordered the Dahlia pixie dust plus Sailor (dark blue), and got the Nori pixie dust and Loredana (gray matte velvet) free! Promo code MOON. ;)

  • I have much hate towards Zoya and Essie. On my nails, they are a gummy mess unless I use only their products. Fuck that. I can only use CND Sticky as a base, anything else peels off within a few hours. No other lines do that. I ain't buying shit that's requiring me to buy only their line. Plus both lines have top coats that never dry over other brands.

But, I don't bother with thinner in Wet n Wild black. It's 98 cents and once thinned, I don't like it as much. But any oil paint thinner will work. Hardware store version is way cheaper. As is their acetone. I have a gallon of faux Zoya remover without that vile fragrance for less than a big salon top type bottle. But thinner cured a bunch of original OPI DS polish that were nothing but goo. Toss in some mixing beads (aka non zinc ball bearings), poke holes in goo with toothpick, fill with thinner and shake, shake, shake. Let sit when arm hurts. Poke holes again, shake more. Repeat until polish is nice. Best $1 I spent on 14 polishes.

Right now, my nails are sad and short.

i have used opi basecoat with essie and never had an issue. the only thing i dont like about essie is how thin it can be. even the darker colors need 3 coats to look good which i hate having to do more than 2 coats. lately all iahve bought is essie.

I have this exact issue with the same top coat. Maybe that's the issue with me, too.

I chose that top coat because I have wrecked my nails with acrylics for years and just started to rehab them for wedding time. They're brittle and just ugh. I need nail therapy bad.

  • lolo883 Just an FYI that Nori isn't like the other pixie dusts, it doesn't dry down matte, it almost is a jelly with glitter and very chunky so I recommend using a thick topcoat like Gelous with that one.

@paperpusher yeah if you want to go to sleep an hour after doing your nails, you gotta use a fast dry top coat.  Try Out the Door or Seche Vite.

@maeday2 the thing that will help your nails is base coat, not top coat.  Try Duri Rejuvacote or Quimica Strengthener, both will help strengthen brittle nails, especially the Rejuvacote for a former acrylic user!

velvethelicopters it's all just about body chemistry, the way Revlon doesn't work for me, there is some additive in Essie and Zoya that doesn't work for you.  Interesting that OPI isnt' an issue sine Essie and OPI use the same base formula from the same lab.  You might want to try more independent brands, if you tell me the kind of colors you like I can help point you in the right direction of brands that work for people that I know can't use Essie or Zoya!

Yeah I probably wouldn't have chosen that one myself over the matte ones, but hey, it's free. :) And I REALLY love the gray.
