Phone apps you wish were real

Re: Phone apps you wish were real

  • H and I can't get mail delivery at our house so we have a PO Box. It's a giant pain in the ass and I hate it. I wish there was a phone app that would tell me when I actually have mail so that I don't waste my time stopping to check the PO box on my way home from work because my commute is long enough as it is. And tell me what's in the PO box so I don't stop just to pick up junk mail. That would be awesome.
This is a GOOD one!  I can't believe something like this doesn't exist- you should make it happen!! :)
I've semi-seriously thought about ways that I could. It's such a hassle to have to make an extra stop on my way home from work just to grab the mail. Most of our bills are electronic so it's not like it's a big deal if we don't pick up the mail for a few days but it's the principle of the thing. And I still cannot figure out why we don't get mail delivered to our house. The streets around us get mail delivered but we don't. I need to take it up with the post master and get a straight answer.
  • I'd like an app that will tell you when it's time to do laundry.
  • My app wish would require restaurants to get on board for it to work, but here it is: it would be cool if there were a universal app where you could choose the fast food restaurant you're going to eat at and save your go-to meal (including all the customizations, like no mayo/add mustard/extra cheese)

So you pull up to the drive thru and instead of talking to someone, you scan your phone and your complicated order is sent directly to the computer, which eliminates the possibility of the person at the window messing up your order.
As someone who is picky with my food orders, this would be really helpful. When I thought of the idea, I was an Apple corporate employee and any app development rights would've belonged to Apple.

  • The best way I found to actually make me get up was setting a lamp timer to turn on at the time I needed to be up. Couldn't snooze it, couldn't sleep through the light, didn't have to actually look at the clock to see what time it was - if the light is on, get yo' ass up. It's a lot more peaceful of a way to wake up, too.

I actually need to find a better lamp timer so I can start doing that again... the one I was using made an ever-so-quiet ticking noise that bothered H.
I wish I'd known this sooner. There were programmable digital timers everywhere for Christmas lights a few weeks ago. I think Target may sell them year round or online. No more noise!
  • @lolo883 - Most large department stores carry timers year round - usually in the hardware section over by lightbulbs and extension cords.  I just bought a digital one for our lizard tank because the old one was driving me absolutely batty with it's ticking noise.  It was louder than the fricken clock in the living room and it wasn't a tick - tick - tick noise it was tickticktickticktick like gears moving.
Cost about $13 and it was one of the nicer ones.

Yeah it's mostly just a matter of my own laziness/remembering to actually pick one up. I actually have another, better lamp timer but I put it away with the Christmas lights so I wouldn't have to look for it next year.
