Not wearing fake lashes

FI made it clear to me that he absolutely does not want me to wear fake eyelashes (he hates them). I don't usually wear makeup so I agree that it would be a little too much for me and MUA also agreed that I shouldn't wear them. I know many other brides do wear them though so just out of curiosity, who out there is also not wear fake lashes or didn't wear fake lashes for their big day?

Re: Not wearing fake lashes

  • I plan to wear them, but the individual lashes and not the whole tarantula looking strip. I think that makes a difference. I just know I can't personally pull that off.

  • i didn't wear them. I just used regular mascara.

  • I remember considering it, but didn't do it.

I have super sensitive skin and whenever I've worn them, I can handle it for about 2 hours and then I just itch and want to rip them off. My main goal was to be comfortable and not distracted that day.

Never wore them before, don't plan to initiate doing so on my wedding day. Maybelline Lash Stiletto has been just fine for me (and I have pretty short eyelashes).

God help me if wearing falsies is now the "norm" and...not gluing shit to your body to make it more appealing isn't.

ETA: I judge no one who wants to wear false eyelashes--that's totally cool, and they can be beautiful! I just think it's a little nuts if the "baseline" has moved from "here is an interesting choice, maybe I shall wear falsies" to "I'm making the brave choice not to wear them."

  • I'm undecided.  I've done them before for formal events and loved them, but I am bad at putting them on myself.  If I choose to have my makeup done professionally, I'll get them.  If I DIY, I'll probably skip it.

FWIW I love a natural look on a bride.  I think you will look lovely with them.  :)

"I'm not a rude bitch.  I'm ten rude bitches in a large coat."

  • I didn't wear them.  I have pretty long lashes already so there was just no point.

I know that fake lashes can look nice if done right, but in my experience every bride who I have seen that has worn them looked odd.  They kind of just overwhelmed their eyes.

  • I've never worn them, nor even thought about it for my wedding.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I only like the single ones that you apply one-by-one on me (I have super stubby eyelashes and I just think I look too different with the big strip of them) but it's a lot of work and I'm doing my own makeup, so I probably won't wear any.

Yeah, I have really short lashes so I was considering them. I've worn fake lashes once before but they weren't comfortable and fell off within a couple hours (maybe I didn't put them on right?). They looked okay while they were on but most people didn't even see the difference between when I wore the fake lashes and when I only wore mascara. The one person that did notice was the person that was standing next to me and chatting with me for hours, and it took her that long to notice.

  • I did not. There's actually a picture of me she took from overhead that's like focused on my headband and eyes and people asked if they were fake.

I'm not going to wear them. Not to toot my own horn, but I have killer eyelashes, even without mascara. I'll obviously be wearing mascara day-of, but I don't see a need for falsies.

I probably won't get fake nails put on either. I love them when they're all fresh and pretty and just-done, but FI doesn't really care for them, and I bit off the last set I got because they annoyed the bejeezus out of me, which was doubly bad - my nails AND my teeth were so unhappy - so I figure a nice mani on my natural nails will work fine.

I like the natural look on brides too! I know it isn't the "natural*" I typically go for at work, but I do think it looks classy and timeless. It's beautiful.

*ETA by this I mean that I barely put on muted brown/cream eyeshadow combo and mascara for work if I put on makeup at all, which is way less than a "natural bride" look would be. Not that I wear hot pink and blue eyeshadow. My boss would shoot me and then send me home to wash my face.

  • My eyes actually have a terrible reaction to eyelash glue. Just found this out recently since it's not like I wear fake lashes on a daily basis. I did ok with just a few individual lashes on my outer eyelid so I'm gonna try that again a few more times just to be SURE my eyes don't go crazy from them. If they bother me, I'm not wearing any fake ones at all and I'll just buy a really good mascara.

I'd rather have little eyelashes in my photos than red, swollen, watery eyes. Yikes.

I have the same kind of picture and people also asked if I wore fake eyelashes.  They also asked if I added fake hair for my updo.  Nope I just have a shit ton of hair and my hairstylist teased the fuck out of it to make me look like I had a lions mane.

  • I wasn't going to, but my MUA tried them out on me at my trial. She used the individual lashes and suggested them because of how my lashes are. I didn't like the look with them all the way across my lid, so for the wedding day she only applied them to the outer half of my lid.

It really helped it look like my eyes were more "open" instead of squinty, and only having them towards the outer corner kept the look more natural. I was really happy I went with them and that my MUA listened to me and my concerns about being too much.
  • I didn't do false lashes for my wedding. I knew I was going to be drunk. Bad things have happened to me when trying to remove false lashes while drunk. Hell, I was drunk before I started getting ready that morning, so putting on false lashes was definitely not going to work. I did my mascara magic and didn't have to worry about falsies.

I've been doing makeup professionally for over 10 years, and I've had less than a handful of brides that were upset that I don't offer lash application in my services.

  • I did not wear fake lashes at my wedding. Regular mascara makes my lashes really bold as it is, I did not need even more.

  • I didn't for the wedding and I never have otherwise.

  • I remember reading an interview (?) with a make-up artist several years ago about how to have really bold lashes just by using mascara.

    1. use an eyelash curler
    2. coat the TOPS of your eyelashes with a thickening mascara
    3. coat the bottoms
    4. coat again with a lengthening mascara (so you need to buy the two different kinds)
    5. wiggle the mascara brush back and forth on the tips of your lashes

It actually does make a huge difference, but you have to be careful that you use new mascara because if it's the least bit dried out, it's easy to get the weird spider leg thing.

  • Nope, I didn't wear them.  I really wanted to look like ME on my wedding day and keep a more natural look.  So, I just went with mascara. And I looked gorgeous.

  • I did and I loved them. They made me feel glamorous and I got loads of compliments. The first time I wore them was for my makeup trial so I had minimal (no experience).

They weren't the scary strips but little individual lashes she included. They stayed on all night but fell right off when I washed my face.

  • I will not be wearing fake lashes.  I never have, never will.  I want to look like me on my wedding day, and I don't think I'd look or feel like myself if I did.

The fact that I'm going to wear make-up and actually do something with my hair besides a bun or pony tail or leaving it loose is already a big stretch for me.
  • I was very opposed and told my MUA I wasn't interested. I'd never worn them, I was worried about feeling weird/distracting and I didn't want to look like not-me. However, she talked me into trying as we had plenty of time to take them off and do something else of I didn't like them.

I ended up keeping them on and almost forgetting to take them off at the end of the night because I literally never thought about them after my makeup was done. They were fairly conservative, but were a strip. She trimmed so they weren't too long and they looked like me but nicer. It felt kind of like the best mascara application ever, but not more than that. I went with a fairly muted makeup look overall and didn't feel like they stood out. But you definitely don't need them. Do you!
  • I have never worn them, didn't on my wedding day, and don't ever plan to wear them.
  • I wore them and absolutely loved them. I understand they're not for everyone though.

If you have the right mascara which I'm guessing your MUA will, they will look great without them too.

Yeah, that's what my MUA did and I thought they looked nice. I tried replicating it on my own and man did I fail, haha.

  • I'm going to wear them and so are my BMs and moms. They come in our make up package. I've only worn them once before when the MUA put them on for the engagement shoot and it took a while to get used to them, but once I did it didn't feel like anything, and the pictures came out great, so why not?

I'm not a make up or hair person at all, I think my FI has seen me in it only a handful of times in the past 4 years. I feel like adding the lashes will make me feel more glamorous and confident.

  • I wore fake eyelashes. I was told by my MUA and my photographer that fake eyelashes would photograph better (more stand out eyes). I loved them and am glad I wore them.

I know girls who wear them everyday of their life. Idk how they put up with all that time and itching.

Right? I grew up a theatre kid and wore them about a thousand times for performances and they still drive me crazy, professionally applied or not. Plus I think they make me look like a caricature of myself thanks to the theatre association my brain makes with them.
