It's my BIRTHDAY weekend!!

I turn 26 tomorrow. Birthdays just aren't as exciting anymore. My 5th graders are all pretty stoked it's my birthday - they're cute.

What do you do on birthdays as you've gotten older??

I'm getting my hair colored tomorrow. Super excited. We are going to dinner with FILs tonight at a super yummy steakhouse. Tomorrow night grabbing dinner at a local bar with our friends. And next week dinner with my parents. Never ending birthday dinners!!

I'm crossing my fingers FI got a cake from my favorite place... he usually doesn't disappoint. Mmmmm.

  • Happy Birthday!!!

Birthdays are never a big deal to me and I always decline when people want to organize big events for it. It's just a birthday. I love going out for other people's birthdays though. I think I just don't like being the center of attention. I'd rather party as part of the group.

  • Happy birthday! Sounds like you have a great weekend ahead!

I love love love my birthday. Even as I've gotten older, still love it. It's much more low-key now (just turned 28 in November) but it's still fun to go out and celebrate a little. H took me to dinner and friends met us at a bar after. H loves his birthday as well so it's fun to have an excuse to do something special for each of us. He spoils himself and tries to take the entire week of his birthday off, since it's always around Memorial Day and the weather is usually pretty nice.

  • Happy birthday and hooray for us January babies! What's your favorite kind of cake?

In past years I've just done dinner out with FI and lunch with friends from church. We're "celebrating" my birthday tomorrow too, but just doing a low key dinner at home with wine, cake and a movie.

I am not a cake discriminator - I pretty much love all cake. I just don't like an overly chocolate cake. FI is a huge chocolate lover so last year my cake was chocolate cake with a chocolate & fresh strawberry filling, and chocolate frosting. I joked he got his own birthday cake.

I admire this way of thinking!!

I just can never decide where to go out for dinner for my own birthday. FILs picked a great place, but for Saturday (my actual birthday) I gave up and said let's just go to the bar because I couldn't think of anywhere that sounded great. We hate going out and having to wait forever for a table, and living in Vegas we really don't like going to the strip on the weekends. So to the bar we go!! They have pretty good food and serve breakfast 24/7.. which includes fruity pebble coated french toast!!! Not sure about that one yet..

  • Happy Birthday!

I  just ask that we go to dinner so I don't have to cook, and then call it a day.  I don't really like birthdays and being the center of attention, so I usually hide that it's my birthday.  I love celebrating other people's birthdays though.

  • Birthdays have always been low-key in my family. My brother and I are two years apart but our birthdays are only 4 days apart so growing up we always shared a birthday. Never had friends parties, it was always just mum and dad and maybe a cousin or two that was around. Mum would make us whatever dessert we wanted and we would usually have burgers.

So thats all I've ever really know for birthdays, and still what we do. If we are in town visiting around that time (my birthday, FI birthday, SIL birthday and Bro's birthday are all with 2 weeks of each other right around Canadian Thanksgiving). We'll usually get together, BBQ open cards and have cake. Maybe a bonfire.

The only 'Big Birthday' I had was my 26th Birthday. FI and I had been dating about 5 months, and He couldn't believe that I had never received flowers or any sort of gift from a guy before. (I didnt date alot... And dated a lot of asses). So he went all out and ordered a 'romance' package at a fancy fondue restaurant. We got dressed up, there was a dozen roses at the table waiting for me, champagne, rose petals scattered around and it was a private booth off of the restraunt so it was all romantic and secluded. it was pretty impressive.

  • Happy birthday!

I am lame and usually just eat more than normal on my birthday. I would say drink more than normal as well, but I do that on a regular basis.

  • Yay! Happy Birthday!

I love birthdays. I typically go out to a bar after going to dinner with my family.

  • Happy Birthday!

Mine's Christmas Eve so we don't really do anything. Usually there's family stuff going on. I did go out to dinner with FI and another couple the day before this year, though.

FI always gets a ski trip from me for his birthday because it's in March and the weather is usually amazing anyway so it's a good excuse to go for three days instead of one or two.

  • Happy birthday!

This past year we went on a brewery tour, it was really fun.  This year is my 30th, but I kinda just want to have a good dinner.  I think Pitch Perfect 2 is coming out around my birthday, maybe see that.

@cupcait927 - I'm a Memorial Day baby too!  My birthday usually falls really close to (or during) the 3-day weekend.  It's cool, because of the long weekend, but not cool because we're a major tourist city during that time and also our friends are all out of town.

  • It was my birthday on Wednesday!

I went out to lunch wit a friend, DH cooked dinner, then we got ice cream!
Yesterday a friend invited me to dinner at her house for tacos! (She asked me what I wanted for birthday dinner and that's what I was craving.)
Tonight DH and I have dinner reservations at my favorite restaurant.
Sunday we are going to brunch with my parents.
Last week we went to dinner with MIL/FIL.

So basically I just celebrate with food.

I originally want to go to Las Vegas for the weekend, but taxes made money tight. :(
  • Happy birthday!!!

  • Happy birthday!

Last year for my 34th birthday, I got married ;-)

Now that I'm an old lady, I like to keep the birthday celebrations mellow. Usually just a dinner with my closest  friends. But now, since H's birthday is the day before mine, birthday celebrations will probably be a small vacation to celebrate our anniversary.
  • Happy birthday! You are almost the exact same age as my cousin. His birthday is on the 25th.

I love cake, I hope you get your cake wish :)

    Yay happy birthday!

For my 28th this year FI took me back to the pub where we first met (a mutual friend had set us up) and then he took me to my favorite local brewery where he had all my grad school friends waiting to surprise me. It was awesome!

Last year we just went to dinner with my parents and it sucked cuz I don't get along that great with my dad. And we didn't get a long during dinner. Then FI and I went out for drinks just the two of us after that.

The year before, we went to Chicago, went out to a nice dinner, and stayed in a hotel that had a bar where Hemingway used to hang out.

Honestly, I'm with you on the whole "birthdays aren't exciting anymore" thing. If FI didn't plan stuff for me, I'd be happy just have a good dinner and a good cocktail (or a few good cocktails) just me and him, and call it a day.

ETA: I guess technically my 28th was LAST year in 2014. So fuck. I'm turning 29 this year. Fuck fuck fuck.

  • @novella1186, I turn 29 this year too. Fortunately, though, I'm the only one of my friend group still under 30, so I never really have to feel old.

FI is three months younger than me, though, so I do tease him about that, especially as he was a grade below me in school.

Yeah FI is 10 months younger than me, and all his friends are about a year to two years younger, so when we hang out with them I'm always the oldest. Bleh.

I'm the baby in my group of friends. FI turned 27 in November, and we always joke that he's practically 50 now... as if I am SO much younger than he is.

My 5th graders kill me when I tell them I'm turning 26 and one of them goes "My mom is 27!!" oh jeeze....

  • One of my closest friends was my student teacher when I was in grade nine, haha - obviously we became friends much later, not related to when I was his student. Now I'm 28 and he's 38 and it's not weird, but we still like to tell people that at parties.

I dated a guy after college -- I was 24 and he was like 38, I didn't think much of it-- that, come to find out, came to my house and taught me swimming lessons when I was like 4. Eeeeew.

Okay, mine is less creepy than that, hahaha. Both because I didn't date him and he taught me music. That is a crazy coincidence unless it was a very small town or something!!

  • Happy birthday!

I stopped caring to celebrate my birthday after I turned 30. DH insisted on taking me out for dinner last night and I only went because he did the puppy dog eyes thing. Then I paid because birthdays = getting older, and I'm not down with that yet!

  • Happy Birthday! Mine was a few weeks ago. I still like to celebrate my birthday, but I don't make a huge deal about it anymore.

  • Happy Birthday!!!!! I'm huge on birthdays. I take off for my birthday- I refuse to work on that day. My parents always get me a cake, and they light candles, and everyone sings to me and stuff.

I also have a nice dinner with FI and my best friend and her boyfriend. And head to some kind of bar with any friend that would like to join. and I always have a lucky tequila shot midnight eve on my birthday :)
