I HATE THAT I'M TOO BUSY AT WORK LATELY TO CATCH UP WITH NEY :-(
Okay, now that that's off my chest.
I had a wonderful 3-day weekend! Friday night FI wanted to stay in a watch his new favorite show "The Americans" - we've watched almost the whole first season in a week. I, however, had cabin fever and wanted to go into the city, so we compromised and went to a bar up the street from us. We had such an awesome time. I feel like we haven't had many dates with just the two of us lately, we're always out with friends. We basically just sat up at the bar and just talked for a few hours, and it was really nice.
Saturday we stayed in ALL day because it was freezing, and I designed our wedding invitations! I was strongly considering just buying some off of Wedding Paper Divas or Minted, but I got into a groove and kept playing around with some stuff, and finally settled on a design that I absolutely love. I'm trying to add a lot of personal touches to our wedding, so I'm really excited that I ended up not buying my invitations online after all. I ordered good card stock to print them on and it should arrive tomorrow, so I'm hoping I can get to FedEx Print Shop to do some test prints on Thursday.
Sunday, the pup was dropped off at her fancy pet resort, and FI and I headed upstate for a housewarming/super bowl party. We stopped at @GoldenPenguin's new house to see it and to say hi, and then we went to FI's friends' new home 20 minutes away from there. Let me just say, I really appreciate living as close to NYC as I do and I'm not ready to give that up just yet, but I am SUPER jealous at how much more affordable gorgeous homes are up there!!!!
Monday, we left FI's friends' house by 9:30am and it took us 4.5 hours to get home in the snowstorm. I cried at least once an hour because I HATE driving in bad conditions and I get terrified that I'm going to die. After we picked up the pup, we finally went home and I made @LaBro 's Crock Pot Mac n' Cheese recipe and it was DELICIOUS. I'll be eating it tonight too :-)
I apologize in advance, this is gonna be a post and run. I will come back and read and respond to all the posts later, I promise!
First. I. HAVE. AN INTERVIEW. Thank God! It's on Thursday afternoon. Send me them magic NEY vibes so I can get out of this hellhole!
I feel kind of bad, because I started working on my permanent unit this weekend and I love my new co-workers. Like, we could be friends. They don't deserve to have to get me all comfortable on their team and then have me abandon them. But I am so miserable doing this work, guys. I have to get out. I'm considering offering to work on the unit as needed while they hire someone, but I doubt that will be realistic. We'll see.
I somehow have plans for every evening this week. It's kind of nice, but I know I'm going to be worn out by Friday. Just dinner and dance classes with people and whatnot. At least it'll force me to get my mind off of work and family stuff.
I've been running around all morning trying to keep my boss sane. She's having a bad week and it is starting to get to her. I am going to run out during lunch to get her something the cheer her up.
My bf's is currently picking out our flooring so I've been getting pictures all day. We decided to cover up the original floors since we plan for the house to become a rental. This was difficult for me to accept because the floors were my favorite part of the house. My bf picked out laminate that is as close looking to the original floors as possible, so I am happy with that decision now. We were going to do a slate grey plank tile for the kitchen, but now probably going to get something like this.
futuremrshistorian Ugh I hate when that happens. Big hugs for you! I am going to end up owing a lot too and don't think I saved up enough. Hopefully, you can make it work.
@phira I like the third couch the best, it looks really comfy. The second couch looks like the type of couch that you'd get stuck in.
Ollie08 gross to your mom's new H's comment about money. And as for the rude things your mom says, just try to ignore her.
@lmcooper86 I just saw your cake in yesterday's thread and I love it!
@goldenpenguin poor Vi; Callie gives me sad eyes every time I leave too. Last night she kept sighing and giving me sad eyes because my brother was sitting on the couch (her spot).
ETA - I haven't been invited to a fiber mascara party, but will make sure to decline. I do get invites for jamberry nails all the time.
@GoldenPenguin One of FB friends was a younique consultant for a little while, and she uploaded a video on YouTube showing her applying that crap. She kept getting it in her eyes, which would make them bright red and teary, so she kept having to pause the video to doctor her eyes. It was ridiculous. I couldn't believe she posted it as a testimonial to how great the product was. By the end she had bright red eyes, tears running down her face, and the worst looking spider lashes I've ever seen. It was hilarious.
@CocoBellaF Duly noted! I was going to do Upper Body last, but I'll def do it first now.
hahaha @eilis1228 - one of the girls who added me to her group posted a "testimonial" picture of one of our mutual friends, and it was a super close up of her eyes - and there was a damn black fiber IN HER EYEBALL, just floating on top of her contact. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was horrified.
Thanks all for the couch feedback! I think we'll probably go with the second or third one. I really don't like that the third one has such blocky arms, but the problem with the second one is that the side without the arm can't change (whereas the other two, you can take them apart and put them back together in a second configuration). We're going to have to make an actual IKEA trip anyway, even though we're going to need the couch delivered, so we'll have to do some serious product testing while we're there.
I love my BFF, but those things are one of the few disagreements we've ever had. She's desperate for longer eyelashes, so she's tried everything, but I think they're hideous. Plus I wear contacts so they actually scare me.
Also, I'm going to AW my super fabulous Valentine's Day manicure, because I feel like it's too cute not to share:
Edited: Blargh, stupid TK doing its dumb picture thing. It works if you click on it. (The ring I'm wearing in this pic is one I got when he deployed. It was sort of a 'promise ring' [the former conservative evangelical in me gets freaked out just saying that!})
@GoldenPenguin (and others) - I just don't get it, they look SO awful most of the time! The girl at work told me she was going to start selling it and that I would "totally love it so much!" False.
@futuremrshistorian - Everything I hear and see about shellac is just confirmation that these people had no idea what they were doing. The edges started separating from my nails less than a week after I got them done, so they started catching on stuff and bits of the colour have been pulled off.
@imcooper86 - I love them...never had any trouble. Mine last for 2 weeks with no peeling. I'm sad you had a bad experience, but try again at a different place.
@phira, @keptinstitches, @speakeasy14 - Thanks! Usually I'm a pretty boring, solid-color kind of girl, but I decided Valentine's Day deserved special nails.
Regular shellac/gel lasts about a week & a half on my nails. However, prior to @buddysmom80's wedding, I got one done with ANC - Amazing Nails Concepts. Instead of painting on the color, he put on this gel, and then dipped my fingers in these pots of powder. It was AMAZING and lasted over three weeks. I ended up peeling them off because my nails had grown out so much that I couldn't function, but they popped right off with no damage. I haven't gotten another manicure since, but I'll definitely get this stuff again, for sure.

@speakeasy14 - Thanks!
@futuremrshistorian - LOVE your nails! I need to get rid of this shit shellac manicure and do something cute for Valentine's.
