Did you hear about the train crash in NY?   WTF?    First you sit on a train track.  An active one at that, but that's not here nor there.   Active or not you never sit on a track.  Then once the cross gates go down you GET OUT OF THE CAR TO CHECK THE DAMAGED?     WTF?   That woman's poor judgement just caused 7 lives (including hers) and dozens of physical injuries and lord knows how many psychological ones.    Everyone is in such a damn hurry these days they just do not think.

I never had intentions of watching 50 Shades of Grey  But now that the Today show as been actively promoting it I'm really not going to watch it.  Seriously, when it started shooting they promoted it. Now it close to coming out it's being promoted every singe day.   IMO,  if a movie needs this much promotions it can't be good.  I'm not talking about the standard actors doing the talk show rounds for a couple of days.  This this has been going on for way too long.

I saw American Snipper last night.  It was pretty good.  Make sure you bring tissues for the last scenes, which were actually footage, not acting.

It's snowing !!!  Finally.  Sadly it's going up to the 50's by the weekend.   This winter has sucked here this year.

Wish me luck at my physical today.  I already peeked at my lab results online.  I have high cholesterol, so I know that will be talked about.  Let's hope that is the worst I hear.

  • Oh Hiiiii!

    - I did not hear about this, but holy shit. Must Google and report back.

-I am sooooooo fucking sick of the 50 Shades promotion. The people who are interested in seeing your fucked up soft-core porn are going to see it no matter what. No amount of promotion is going to convince anyone else that it isn't a steaming pile of dog shit.

-I have heard that it was really good, but I'm not going to see it. I take issue with it being marketed as a true story when 90% of what Chris Kyle ever said has been proven false. No thank you. I'm also not that into the message that killing innocent people is heroic because 'MERICA!!! FREEDOM!!! TERRORIST A-RABS!!!

-I am so jealous that you;re getting into the 50s! I'm so sick of the cold here. Ready for spring, please!

-Good Luck! And thanks for reminding me that i'm due for a physical :( I hate doctors.
  • I was at the bar last night with some coworkers, when one of them got an alert on his phone about the crash. I still have not fully read many details, I did read about the woman and the jeep, and her getting out. So I don't know if she somehow got suck or what, although wtf was she doing driving over train tracks like that? I have to read the story, but it is a horrible tragedy. My thoughts are with all the people involved, I cannot even imagine.

You know, I kinda want to watch 50 shades. Sometimes I'm a sucker for "bad" movies (my girlfriends and I had cocktail and movie dates for all the Twilight movies.) I'm mostly curious to see how it plays out in the big screen.

I saw American Sniper a few weekends ago, great movie. Do you think Bradley Cooper will win the Oscar for it?

The snow here can just go away. It is so disgusting in the streets of NY now. I'm impatiently waiting for spring.

And on another note, I have not had a drink since NYE (even though I was at the bar till 11 last night), and I managed to lose 7 pounds so far, woohoo!

Good luck at your physical! Reminds me I need to schedule mine soon.

  • I live not far from where the crash happened. It's really sad and horrifying to read all the details. Witnesses are saying the gate hit the woman's car, and she got out to check for damage. And instead of trying to back up, she drove further onto the tracks. People are reporting it was one of the most gruesome scenes they've seen.

    Good luck on your physical!

They're calling for snow on Sunday and I'm really hoping I get stuck in Florida.
  • I'm with Ashley 100% on all of this.

Yay for your weight loss, @Pinkcow13!

I'm annoyed by the 50 Shades promotion, too - from BOTH sides.  I keep seeing calls for boycotts because of the content, which just adds to the intrigue for many.  I have absolutely no desire to see it or read it.  ANd I'm torn because I don't want to support anyone or anything who is publicizing the movie, but I really like some of the new OPI shades.  @LacqueredLover, have you tried those colors yet?

I'm curious to go see American Sniper (mostly because we have Groupons to our theater and I want to take advantage of seeing a movie for $5).  H doesn't want to, though.  Drat.  :(

So H and I are teaching our adult ed group tomorrow night about the Eucharist.  The woman who runs the class is so super sweet, and she's also a bit behind the times.  I asked her if we could use the A/V equipment to show a good YouTube video, and she said "sure, if you know how to set it up."  Ummm, you work there.  You should know this stuff.  *sigh*

I'm also teaching the teens tonight about Confirmation.  I then realized that I was confirmed as a junior in high school before my students were born.  Hmmm.

ETA:  I've been listening to a LOT of Billy Joel this week.  My friend just got us tickets to his show in Houston in November and I'm SO PSYCHED.  It will be even more fun since it's girlfriends who are going and we all love his music.  CAN'T. WAIT.

I don't think he was that good.  I think Eddie Redmayne playing Stephen Hawking will win.

We moved 3 times in 3 years.  I really slacked on getting a true physical.

  • Good luck at your physical!  I have mine soon, and hopefully my cholesterol and triglycerides have dropped.  I have a sneaking suspicion that part of it might be genetics.  Grandma is the healthiest person I know and she still has high cholesterol and diabetes, so I'm trying to be really careful.  I really don't want either of those things (at all, but especially at my age).

I don't understand why the woman got back into her car.  If I was on the tracks and saw the train coming, the last thing I would be doing is to get back into it.  I'd be sprinting away as fast as I could.  Why was she trying to rush it anyways?  Everyone knows you lose in a race with a train, Hollywood BS aside.

I snorted at this because my messed up mind came up with a movie about a doctor who advocates circumcision. Um.... But yea, great movie. Very emotional. Bradley Cooper is so good.

Agree with you about the woman who caused the wreck in NY. What. The. Hell. IMHO, she should be charged with manslaughter at least. At LEAST. It's hard to even imagine that people can be that stupid.

ETA: I did not realize she got back into her car and died, too.

  • Thanks @holyguacamole79!

You know, I want to see The Theory of Everything. I should see that next, then.

I read more about the crash. I don't understand why she would have gotten out of the car. If the cross gate went down and hit her car, that means the freaking train is coming! Why in the world would she get out to inspect the car?? It is sounding like that was something that should never have happened.

  • It's a big fat nope on the 50 Shades movie.  I had zero interest in the books, even less in the movie.

FI said he wants to see American Sniper.  I'm kind of surprised, usually he turns his nose up at military movies other than stuff like Fury - he dug that movie.

I just watched clips of that plane that struck the bridge and crashed into the river in Taiwan - holy shit.

I'm down 3.5 pounds since our Biggest Winner challenge started at work 2 weeks ago - yay!  The My Fitness Pal app linked with my Fitbit is the best thing ever.

    She's dead.

Her estate will be sued for her poor judgement.

I JUST saw the plane crash in Taiwan.  CRAZY.

Yay for losing weight!!   I've gained a little lately.  Not overweight, but making my way up that way.  Add in cholestorol I'm thinking a diet is going to be recommended.

  • -I hadn't heard about the train crash yet but that is truly awful.

-I never read 50 Shades of Grey and don't have the intention to see the movie. Maybe when it comes out on DVD? I'm not against it or anything but I'm just not interested.

-H and I went to see American Sniper a couple of weeks ago and it was amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone. I cried throughout the entire movie and when the theater was filing out, it was complete silence.

-I want snow here, now. But it's just windy and cold.

-Good luck on your physical! That reminds me that I need to schedule myself one.

  • 1. I didn't hear about the train accident, but how awful!
    2. 50 Shades needs to go away already. An awful book turned into an awful movie, which will (sadly) make a shit ton of money.
    3. Loved American Sniper. A heartbreaking, well acted & filmed movie, regardless of the controversy.
    4. Snowing down the hill here in Denver, too. 60 yesterday, snow today, 50 tomorrow. Mother Nature is officially on crack.
    5. Good luck!!

Big fat nope to both movies. I don't like how Kyle is being portrayed as a good guy when he said himself he just really enjoyed killing people. I don't hate all war movies but that one really kind of strikes me as being almost pro-war propaganda to me. 50 shades is just annoying me, plus it's a really inaccurate portrayal of S&M relationships which in this case just sounds controlling and abusive.

On Monday I had my first nursing school test and on Tuesday my first real clinical and my first skills test, which was on taking blood pressure. All went well. I got a 90 on the test which I didn't think was amazing but my teacher took me aside to ask me to tell other people how I studied for it and that she was excited that I was in her clinical group. In clinical I mostly chatted with my patient, who was very nice but lost his wife that lived on the memory care floor a week ago. I passed my vitals test but my own BP was high, so the teacher took it again later and I told her about the Adderall since I think that might be responsible for the about 20 jump in my BP. Or  maybe the fact that I had three stressful nursing school firsts in two days. But that's out in the open now.

I think I may have accidentally made friends with a crazy person. In another class we had she went off on the professor, who was really shitty but it was really intense, it looked like it was going toward a physical altercation. She didn't do well on her test and also did her BP test on me and failed it, and while I feel pretty bad about it she is being really emotional and dramatic about it all, also saying nobody likes her and the teachers are too hard. I don't know if she'll last and I think she's kind of a ticking time bomb.

The Adderall kills my appetite which is a very welcome side effect since I have been progressively gaining a shit ton of weight due to the voracious appetite I've had for a while. I still track my food on myfitnesspal so I know I'm eating enough, but I've lost about 3 lbs since starting it since I no longer feel the need to eat every 2 hours.

  • I heard a little bit about the crashes on the radio this morning; awful.

I thought BC was really good in American Sniper, because he just pulled off that PTSD awkward stare really well. And I totally cried at the end.

This is cracking me up today: http://imgur.com/gallery/H0ZPI

We got more snow last night. It's hard to tell with all the drifting, but we have at least a foot and a half. At least H had some fun JUMPING OFF THE ROOF into a snow pile after sweeping it all off the roof. But now the roads are all schloppy and gross.

And what the heck, I'm gonna go ahead and sneak this random tidbit in here too for good measure. :)

Heard about the train crash this morning.  I don't know why people do not take train crossings seriously.  So it may take you 15 minutes or so extra to get to your destination.  At least you and others would still be alive if you just weren't in such a hurry!

I don't know why but I think that the 50 Shades movie may actually be decent.  I don't know why I have this feeling though.  Maybe because it is rated R so all the sex scenes will have to be turned down a notch so there had to be more emphasis on the story line (the tiny one that there was in the first book) and characters.

I haven't seen American Sniper and will probably wait to see it until it comes out on Demand or DVD.  I think I have to be in the right frame of mind for a movie like that.

We really haven't gotten much of any snow which is fine with me.

I am going on a work trip at the end of next week to Orlando.  My co-worker/friend of mine and I are going to fly in 2 days early to just hang out, hit up a park and have a few drinks beforehand. Then two full days (probably 16 hour days) of meetings and minutes and boring conversation. Then I am staying down in Orlando area for another 5 days to visit my parents.  So taking out the two days of actual work, I have a nice 7 day vacation coming my way :)

  • Congrats, @lolo883!!!! How are you feeling?

  • Ahh congrats @lolo883!

For those who have no interest in 50 Shades, there's always Spongebob!  This made me chuckle :)

Good, thanks! I was super exhausted and dizzy for a little while but that's starting to get a little better now. :)

That's awesome.  All the best for a healthy pregnancy!
  • 1) saw something about this but never read the story. seriously dont rush it. now it cost her her life and many others.
    2) i want to see it but hate how everywhere is promoting it. i listen to a local radio show in the afternoons and the one guy said oh take your mother to see it. WHY take your mom to something like that.
    3) FI wont go see it, I am not really into War movies or at least the modern ones. We went to see Lone Survivor and I ended up getting sick afterwards (no idea why) Plus I am more of a history buff so the older they are the better for me.
    4) where i work we are still digging out our lot at work. the snow is above the bumper on most of the cars in our pre owned and new lots. about 14 with sundays storm with another 3 this morning and another 4 tonight. i am so tired of all this snow. we can not find anywhere to park and customers can not either. how are we suppose to sell cars with no where for customers to park.

  • The news this morning was all negative. Taiwan plane crash, ISIS burning alive that Jordanian pilot, the NY train crash, and other sadness.

Thanks for reminding me there is still good left, @lolo883! BABIES!

  • YAY @lolo883!!!

I'm getting a physical too. Good timing, I have a bite or something on my leg (very near my ladybits - 0.0) and I can get confirmation that it's just a bite and quit worrying that my whole left leg is going to fall off (or I can get confirmation that my leg IS going to fall off and prepare for it). Then I'm getting my hurrs did! Brother's gonna dye me red. So excited. Then I'm going to look at wedding dresses! Yay! (I figured if I was going to do anything in the Big City, I may as well do ALL the things in the Big City.)

I did hear about that crash while I was getting ready for my appointment this morning. I didn't catch the whole story but it's certainly awful.
