Anyone watching the SNL 40th reunion show?

It just started here.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Re: Anyone watching the SNL 40th reunion show?

  • We just turned it on. I forgot it wasn't on on Saturday night!
  • We are recording it because DH is at work.   He is going to be mad that I'm watching it live.

  • I'm watching. Good to see the early stuff, Gilda Radner, Jane Curtain and the Belushis.  Chevy Chase seemed pretty weird.

  • OK, I did love Melissa McCarthy and Emma Stone on weekend update.

    I'm an hour behind.

It's all good though. I'm not one to care about spoilers.

ETA  - my FB is full of them due to most of my family/friends being on the East Coast.

  • I'm watching it and it's awesome so far.

I'm out east visiting my folks so I'm actually able to watch it live for once. I've been pretty entertained so far.

  • So far so good. Love me some Derek Jeter.

  • I'm watching and loving it!
  • Betty White saved that skit

  • I'm way behind. But Miley had NO place being up there at the beginning of the show.

Didn't realize it was on tonight.  Gotta go check the times here

ETA - Yay!!  Starts in 15 min on our local stations.  Thanks East coasters!!  We missed the time shift, but that's ok

  • We're watching, but about an hour behind. Of all the sketches, I can't believe they repeated The Californians, a sketch that we always FF through. And Miley being there makes me hurl. But I loved Melissa McCarthy's motivational speaker. And any use of Kate McKinnon's Bieber impression.

  • I think the Californians was a way to get the new cast members in.   But shows how the are not as funny.  Or maybe it's because I'm older.

I'm in CO and are an hour behind. It's funny reading FB remarks from my east coast friends.  They are not giving specifics, but enough for me to say "oh yeah, you are right about that one"

  • I <3 Betty White.

  • I was kind of upset that they gave so much time to newer stuff ("Californians"... UGH...) and didn't touch a lot of the older, classic, funny stuff.

And Miley and Kanye as the performers? Come the fuck on. I'm so glad they at least had the decency to have Paul McCartney as the opener and Paul Simon as the closer.

slothieguy and I aren't going to be able to watch it until tomorrow, but I was on my FB a minute ago and saw about half of my newsfeed voicing the same outrage.

Hopefully the rest of the show makes up for it (just skimmed the posts, don't want to spoil everything for myself!).

  • Yeah, and then they devoted part of one of the host monologues AND one of the classic sketches to the Kanye bullshit. I was PISSED. That man does NOT need more attention. I can't believe he was even there.

H and I were supremely disappointed with the whole thing. I want my 3.5 hours back.
  • The Jeopardy at the opening had both DH and me pissing our pants.  I think it's one of the few sketches he liked when he used to watch on occasion.  Kinda disappointed in other things so far.

  • Am I the only one who likes the Californians?? I always laugh at that skit. Miley performing 50 ways to leave your lover was AWFUL, I really despise her voice. And I was so so mad Kanye was there. Overall I thought the show was good, although I fell asleep in the last hour.
  • Am I the only one who likes the Californians??

I think so! hehe  My news feed was all about not liking it and I agreed (Ive never liked it).  I think I could handle the Californians if it wasn't such a long sketch.  We always watch on DVR and usually FFW through it.  We were caught up to live so we watched the whole thing - Betty White saved it!

  • The Californians is funny. Not over the top rolling, but I do laugh. The Jeopardy one was definitely the best.

    Kanye - WTF was that?
  • I'm on East coast so I could only stay awake for the first 2 hours. Was definitely hoping to see more screen time from the older people (Martin, Chevy, Bulushi, Sandler, Ferrell). The Californians was way to long and boring and the Maya Rudolph Beyonce was way too long and boring. I loved the audition tapes and wish they had more of those!

  • I agree some of it just went on too long and then stopped being funny. I also wanted to see more of certain people. I hate that Kanye performed and kept getting so much attention. He drives me nuts.

  • Too long:

The Californians (minus Betty and Bradley making out).

    Kayne

    Miley butchering Paul Simon's song.

    Maya being Beyonce.

Then I realized i'm just getting old and just prefer the old school stuff.

    sigh.

Anyway, I loved Celebrity Jeopardy.    I was disappointed with Paul McCartney, it really showed how old he is getting.    And Eddie.    So would have liked an Eddie Murphy skit.

  • Celebrity jeopardy was the best.  Loved it!

  • Paul McCartney really did not sound good. That made me sad.
  • I missed the last 15 minutes of the show, but I can't believe they wasted a segment on Miley Cyrus. Paul Simon was there! Why didn't he perform his own song?!

Also I could have watched 3.5 hours of audition tapes.

  • I'd prefer Paul McCartney at his worst over Miley and Kanye at their best any day.

I loved the audition tapes too!
